We are staying at Excellence Playa Mujeres for a week after as well. How was it there for the honeymoon? Also, how long is too long between the ceremony and the reception? What have others done? The resort is asking us to move our wedding back by half and hour and I'm not sure I want to do it so early. Anyone else married in Jan/Feb? Suggestions?

Hi TaraLynn, Have you emailed and asked to change locations to the Pool Deck? As long as no one else has reserved it for that day then you should be fine. They go by what you put on the contact. So say if you put that you have 60 guests then they will let you book the pool deck but if you do not meet that obligation, they will move you if someone else has already requested that area. So you booked in a spot that is now too small, so I would request a change of location and hope no one else has signed a contract for that area already. They told me the same as other (I only have 35 guests) that if it is available on that day when we get there they can always do it then. But, to be sure and hold it always email the WC. This way you can plan how you want everything to look. Tables, decorations etc. You know, the fun part Hope this helps!

Hey LeashAC I am in somewhat of the same boat. I wanted the pool deck and can't have it either because I don't have enough people and don't want to pay the difference. The "locations" brochure states that you need to have 60 people. Sucks but thats the way it is now. I was told if is was free on that day when I get there we could still have it there. So, unless you are willing to pay for the additional guests, you may have to choose another location, or hotel if need be. I've decided to go with the beach and I'm sure its going to be lovely.

I hope I can get it! I've heard from all of you lovely brides how great it is! I will have my wedding planner try again. My thought is that I would not have to pay for the dance floor if we have it on the pool deck. We could just line it out with some accent lighting. On the beach its pretty much a requirement. Crossing fingers!!

I totally understand and we are in a similar situation. My Fi dad is in the exact same situation. And of course he is so upset thinking that he may not be able to go. Our wedding isn't until Jan 2014. Luckily the cancer is going slower than anticipated. November they said 6 months to 1 year. We are at 6 months and he still feels good. They only found it because of a nasty infection he had. It's hard because if something happens the week we plan to get married, we may not go. Also, if he is in the hospital that week, my Fi's mom probably won't come either which is devastating. Our plans are to go with the flow. We are going to get married here with only close family. We are going to do it in his parents backyard but will wait as long as we can so that we don't come across the same issues of having the actual date and the symbolic date so far apart and the stag/stagette technically after we're married. But, its worth it to include the family and have those memories. We are crossing fingers that somehow the big C holds off long enough for him to come but are trying to be realistic at the same time. Travel insurance doesn't cover it so we know it is not likely. It is a crappy situation to be in. Knowing one of the best and worse moments in a persons life will happen so close together.

Hi Alirea! I went thru like 5 different Destination Wedding companies to get the best rates for my guests. This was hard work and annoying. You can get your date before but for us it was more important to find a time where it was affordable. We went with the end of Jan because Feb is more expensive around valentines and then march for spring break. Keeping the costs down for our guests as much as possible was the important part. Note that with group rates it takes each company like 4 business days to come back with rates so it is very time consuming. Since I am going thru a destination wedding travel agency, they booked the wedding date before we agreed to the group purposal. I paid for the additional wedding planning service but we haven't gotten there yet. We are still in the deposits period seeing who will actually book with us and how many people are coming. Lots of people may just book their own trip closer to the wedding as well and we will need to be prepared for that. IDK if this helps but good luck!

We also went thru the same thing and of course still aren't 100% sure but that is what I put the deposit on. I thought about doing the free wedding and actually priced everything out and it would cost more to do it that way. The photographer at the hotel is actually very good. One reason I picked this resort was because a friend got married there just over a year ago and loved it. She is very happy with the pictures. I read that the 50 pictures included only are from the ceremony itself so you will need to extend it for the additional hour ($150) to cover the photo session with the bridal party. I'm working with a wedding planner here who has worked with Dreams alot. Hoping to get more insight once we actually get to start the process. I know its nearly a year away and I can't help wanting to figure it all out now Hope this helps you make a decision.

So much fantastic info! Thanks Savs!! Congrats and how beautiful! It helps put my mind at ease! Does anyone know or have anything additional documentation from the resort above and beyond the FAQ, Wedding Guide, and locations document? I'm looking specifically for things like pictures for upgrades to the chairs, pictures of what decorations are included in the Ultimate wedding package, and reception decorations. If someone has anything like this and could email it to [email protected] I would soooo appreciate it!! :) I'm so excited and thanks to all of you feel like I have picked the right resort. Went to a Barcelo wedding a few years back, good job on switching!

Congrats!! And yes that does make it easy! Lucky! We went back and forth on so many resorts. I swear I could tell you everything about like 10 different resorts in the Mayan Riviera by now. I like the simplicity of the Dreams packages though and the resort looks beautiful! Have you picked a package?
