  1. We're planning on getting married in Calgary first for a few reasons. We're both from different religions, so a religious ceremony is out the question. I also get cold sores when I travel to the tropics. I want my wedding to be ASAP after we arrive so I don't have an ugly cold sore on my wedding pictures, but we can't do that with a legal ceremony in Mexico because you have to be in the country for a few business days before. And the final, and probably most important reason, we don't want to shell out all the extra money. It's just a way of saving some cash to be able to spend it in another aspect of the wedding.
  2. Thanks! That's kind of what I was thinking as well, just sending invitations and putting the RSVP's on the website. Also because people would have all the info in one place .
  3. Hi everyone! I'm looking for some resort suggestions. My wedding is still about 2 years away but the FI and I are planning a trip to Mexico in a few months to check out some of the hotels and their wedding packages. I need some help to get a shortlist that we can visit. Here are some of the things I have in mind: 1) I would like to get married in Cancun but I don't mind Playa del Carmen either. I just want a place with a fun nightlife so that the younger people can still enjoy going out. 2) I want a private reception or something that feels a little bit more private. The dancing is my #1 requirement for the reception. 3) I don't want to get married or have my reception on the beach, but I want to be outside. I'm thinking we'll probably have anywhere from 20-30 guests. I've narrowed down to some hotels: Gran Caribe Real, Dreams Cancun and I also like Now Jade Cancun but it seems like it's a bit in the middle of nowhere and I don't want to get bored. Are there any other hotels that you can think of?
  4. I realized as soon as I posted it but didn't know how to delete it haha. Great work!
  5. Those pictures are beautiful. I love candid photos that capture people's emotions
  6. Thanks! I definitely like the story telling style. After looking at some pictures here and there I noticed that there are different styles and some of them really are not my thing . Thanks for the info.
  7. Thanks. Yes, after doing a bit more research I found that most resorts do charge so I will probably be making my own centerpieces and bringing them from here. I can get them done for about $10 vs. $40 each at the hotel .
  8. I noticed that you send STD cards with quite a bit of info on them and also had a website. Did you send invitations as well?
  9. After you mentioned NOW Jade Cancun I decided to look into it. They do seem to have a really good value, and the resort is just beautiful. If you don't mind me asking, how much will your guests end up paying per night to stay at this hotel, or how much is it for you? Are you traveling with a pre-packaged vacation?
  10. Thanks for the tips! my wedding is still not for another 2 years but i'm just looking around seeing what i like and what i need to get. I noticed that you mentioned that you brought your own center pieces. I thought these came included with the DW package. Is that right or am i supposed to bring my own? thanks for the help! I'm kind of overwhelmed, thank god i'm starting early!
  11. Hi everyone! I'm Sofia, I live in Calgary and after 5 years of dating I got engaged last Saturday . I have tons of time to plan my wedding, about 2 years, but i decided to start looking around and choosing things that I would like. Unlike many, I didn't have half my wedding planned before the engagement and I'm feeling totally lost. Here's what we do know that we want: We want a destination wedding in Mexico, either Mayan Riviera or Cabo. I want a hotel that will let me have a private reception for a few hours and that we can put music. I will not compromise the dancing We would like to have a cake made outside of the hotel. We're both Latin American and we know for sure they make better cakes than just icing. and...that's it! haha. So, I need your help. How do you even start to narrow down hotels? We're thinking of visiting Mexico in the summer and checking out some of our selections in person to make a final decision, but the list needs to be pretty small. Do any hotels offer a buffet option for the reception? The fiance would really like a buffet so we want to look into that option if it exists. What do you look for in a photographer? Did you find that a lot of people decided not to go because of the cost? I think those are the main questions that are just eating at my soul right now. thanks in advance!
