  1. I'm sorry to hear that! I'm trying to stay positive and keep in mind that some people will not make it and try not to take it too hard but I think sometimes that might be easier said than done. I think that yes, as long as your closest family and friends are there it's going to be good. I guess there's always the people who come back with some BS excuse last minute and it's probably hard to look over that. Oh the drama of weddings...hahah
  2. I have my first dress appointment in a couple of hours. I don't know what to expect but i'm excited.
  3. @@jayejayelynn you have the opposite problem haha. The first time I traveled to the caribbean in August I burnt so much that just walking felt like it was going to rip my skin apart . I had put on sunscreen but I think I went into the water too soon. I'm am soo scared that something like that will happen again. Hopefully some faking and baking will do the trick, plus tons of sunscreen every 10 minutes
  4. @@tygrrlily thanks! How much did your bouquet cost you? Just to get a reference of where the prices are at.
  5. thanks! That's a great idea. We're on the same boat, we don't have that much money to pay the photographer to do it so that's why I thought of putting it together myself. They might not look as professional, but they'll be every bit of fun. Plus, I find that when people are taking their own pictures rather than having a stranger take them they might feel more comfortable . I originally wanted to make my guestbook as a photo album with polaroid pictures and then people leave a message if they want, so it would be two birds with one stone. One of my friends did that and so she has the camera that she could lend me. I would just have to buy the film. On the other hand, I thought that if I used the digital camera, I would print one picture of every guest later and send it to them as a thank you for coming. Tough choice! I'm really concerned that they will come out really dark if I don't have the proper light, but I guess I could try something out in my backyard one night and see what happens haha. Let me know how it goes at the bridal shower! I'm sure they'll love it because photobooths are just so much fun!
  6. Thanks! I'm sorry to hear that everyone cancelled. We're inviting about 65 people. We're hoping that since we're over a year ahead, that most people will be able to book their vacation and since they can pay in instalments, it might be a little bit easier for them to come. It works out to be about $150 per month. I know some people will say no. We're thinking we'll probably end up with about 40 people, which is fine. Worst case scenario, it will be our families and us and as I was talking my brother the other day, the people who matter the most is the family and the closest friends, if the rest can come is a bonus
  7. I'm looking forward to the rest of this review! I loved your engagement story. Somehow I imagined it similar to the scene on The Notebook when they're on the boat. I'm glad to know that our rates for the hotel were about the same as yours. We're getting one free room every 11. We're hoping we can use them to help my family come from Argentina!
  8. Did anyone purchase fake flowers here in Canada or found a good website with reasonable shipping costs?
  9. I'm interested in the answer to this too! I am so worried that no one will come
  10. Hi everyone! I'm wondering if anyone had a DIY photobooth at their reception. I know there is a topic on doing one at the at home reception, but I'm interested in what kinds of things I would need to bring to Mexico and if it would even be possible? Here's what I was thinking: I have a SLR camera with a remote control, a tripod and I was thinking of bringing light and simple things for the backdrop, plus, of course, any props for the actual pictures. What about the light? Do I need anything else? Any help is appreciated!
  11. thanks for posting this! We're thinking of getting one to play music from our ipod at our reception. Do you think I would need an amplifier? The ceremony would be on a terrace. I think the biggest thing is the noise of the wind up there!
  12. I got the pics! Thank you so much. This really confirms what I thought, which is really that the pool has very little privacy. It is pretty anyway, but unless the price of the sky deck goes way up with all of our guests both the fiance and I decided to do it there. Our wedding is in August and some wind will be really nice to have up there with all that humidity and heat . One more question for those who already booked. My profile is showing me that I owe $2000 and some for selecting the ceremony at the sky deck. Do you guys know if this is doubled if I want to have my reception there too? or is it just one price for everything? be careful with that, I know some hotels are getting strict on that and not letting you bring outside flowers, even if you set them up yourself. I would ask your wedding coordinator. I agree, the outside vendor fee is ridiculous! The worst part is that they don't even give you many good choices to avoid that fee. Sometimes I think they do it on purpose to make more money. Oh the business of weddings... We're trying to book our photography and video from the same company so that we have to pay only once. In terms of my hair and makeup I'm thinking of looking for a place in Playa. That way I can go, get everything done and come back into the hotel hahah. Hopefully my Spanish comes in handy then . In terms of flowers we're trying to keep them at a minimum because they really blow our budget out of the water. Whatever flowers we do have, I really like roses and succulents, which apparently are the local flowers so that's a bonus.
  13. You know after you paid the $200 to reserve your date how it takes you to like a profile of your wedding. I remember my usename but I don't remember ever picking a password. Did anyone else have this problem? I also accidentally closed the screen before I could change the password
  14. We're expecting anywhere from 30-60 people haha. We decided to block the majority of the suites because there was only like a $100 or $200 difference and it's a big difference in terms of a room! If you get those pictures of the garden could you please send them my way? sblopezb@@gmail.com. Thanks so much! We do love the terrace but we would like to avoid the extra fee if possible.
  15. It's official! We're getting married on Aug 13, 2015 at Azul Fives. Let's put this planning thing into high gear!
  16. We've got a date!! Aug 13, 2015. It feels a little bit surreal that this is actually happening after like a year and a half of planning haha
  17. I think it's awesome if you get the opportunity to work with the photographer that will take your wedding pictures. Then you know how they work and you get comfortable by the time the big day rolls around. Some people have also gotten really sweet deals (I'm actually kind of jealous haha). I'm a little scared that i'm going to look awful in all my pictures hahah, even though I've never seen a bride that looks awful. Just all these silly fears.
  18. That's so cute! We're always accidentally matching too haha. I guess great minds think alike
  19. has anyone used any of the resort photographers? The ones at the more expensive end seem good but I was wondering if anyone had first-hand experience?
  20. thanks! I was thinking the same thing. I hate tanning beds because I take care of my skin so much and I feel like i throw all that out the window hahah, but I think in this case getting a base tan would help, and it's only once. Hats are a good idea!
  21. Hi guys! So, if everything goes right, this week we will have a confirmed hotel and date in Playa del Carmen. Our wedding will be in the beginning of August so here is my dilemma. I burn soo easily and we will be there on a sunday but probably won't get married until the thursday. This creates a huge stress for me because that means I basically can't do anything for most of my vacation there. I really don't want to have a red nose on my wedding day or red anything for that matter. Does anyone have any tips on trying to not burn? I try to put SPF as soon as I come out of the water and as often as I can but some tours make it really hard to fit the SPF application in. I'm the type that if you miss a spot you can bet it will be burned in an hour. I know it's so silly to be stressing out about this!
  22. oh my goodness that would be great! At this point we're not sure what to do. I mean I spent so much time researching GCR and we even went down there to check it out but they are extremely strict with their booking rules so we're thinking of switching. They also really do not give you much for bringing so many people down there. Unfortunately I don't think we'll have time to visit the Azul Five so any info you have would be amazing! Some questions that I do have are how much is it to have a private reception and how much is the food for the reception?
  23. Hi everyone! So I totally got blindsided. I was convinced that we would have our wedding at the Gran Caribe Real in Cancun but we're not so sure anymore. Our travel agent recommended Azul Five to us and I like the pictures but I'm having trouble making sense of their pricing. Can anyone help me out with that? How do the packages work? Do they offer private receptions and how much does that cost? Any info helps. I feel as though all the research I've done was completely wasted
  24. any Canadian brides that booked this hotel. What travel company did you go with?
  25. that is so sweet! I would have definitely done the same in your situation
