  1. That's true they would be expensive so it always depends on how many you have to do. About the words, I would make a stencil and then paint it on or you could try and find some kind of stamp that would fit the occasion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. thanks! we were originally just going to print a little swirly thing just like the one on the invites themselves but then I saw that pattern for embossing and I thought they would look much better. The paper is kind of pearly so it looks really nice .
  3. For that same reason I don't know if I could sell mine but I know some people spend a lot of money on their dress and it's a way of getting back some of it. Plus, it helps out other brides who want designer dresses but can't afford the full price. I see both sides but I just don't know if I can part with mine . Funny story, my mom kept her first communion dress and I wore it when I took my first communion. It is just such a simple and classic dress that never went out of style. I still love it to this day. Sadly her wedding dress was very 80s hahah so I couldn't wear that one
  4. I'm happy to share what I did with our invitations. My mom helped us design them on photoshop and I sent them to Staples to print (40 of them for about $15). I printed the envelopes at home and then embossed them using an embossing machine. I got most the supplies from Michael's with 40% off coupons except for the embossing pattern or folder, the scoring board and the ribbon. I got those from wal-mart. My mom had the embossing machine so I didn't have to buy it. They don't look 100% professional but I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I'm sorry about the super large picture, I tried to resize but it didn't let me post the smaller one for some reason.
  5. I like the wooden boxes maybe because I have tons of little cute boxes that I use to put jewelry and things like that in Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Hmm weird. We don't have dollar trees here but the ones I got at dollarama were still glowing a bit the next morning when we cleaned up Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Do you think maybe she quit and just didn't let you know? How about calling over to Miami and seeing if you can talk with her or anyone else? I have Brigitte Castro, I think she's new but she's doing a wonderful job at getting back to me within a day or two max. Whenever she doesn't know something she also finds out and lets me know right away. I know some other brides were successful in changing their WC but I'm not sure how they went about it
  8. I have no idea. No one mentioned anything to me but I used weddingwire to build my website. I figured the ones from the hotel weren't as nice but who knows.
  9. @@Vickiw89 @@Lilgabri03 I found out about the free events the through the Karisma website, not through my travel agent so it might be for everyone, regardless of TA. When you go to their wedding site it says special offers, choose the offers for the Azul resorts and it should show up. In Canada we don't have the one that is "bride and groom stay for free" but it usually says if there are any restrictions. It also doesn't hurt to ask. I haven't mentioned it to my WC yet because no one has booked yet and it's kind of pointless at the moment. that's a good point too! I mean, I'm not just going to run off as soon as the kiss is done haha but Juan and I are not very good at posing for pictures. That's why I prefer to have more pictures of the moments during the wedding as they happen but I guess I should probably talk to the photographer who is the expert after all
  10. @@kmk2016 that's a great idea! I might have to pay another hour for the photographer to get the pictures I want haha, but I think for now Cocktail location TBD is the best way to go. I'll make it a two hour break then between the ceremony and reception. I guess I didn't account for the fact that people want to mingle right after but that makes sense.
  11. Hi everyone. I'm getting ready to send out my invites this weekend and I would like to update our website with the wedding events so people can already see them. I'm having some issues because I don't know if we will have a cocktail hour or not. We're basically having one only if it's free and I think we will be able to get the 20 rooms but I don't want to count with that before actually having it. Another thing is that two hours for a cocktail party seems quite long. Ideally, I think an hour of family and couple pictures would be enough and then we can get the party started . Is that an unrealistic expectation? I just think some pictures of our reception and being able to get our first dance in there is more important than having a zillion couple pictures. The problem is that if we have a two hour cocktail, the hours that we hired the photographer for will run out before we get to the first dances and those "milestones" of the reception. Any suggestions? If I get the free cocktail hour, can I make it one hour long? Do you guys think an hour is enough to get family and couples pictures?
  12. Thanks! It looks like it has courtains for the fabrics. Interesting, I don't even know if I want to open that can of worms haha. I thought it was just fabric that goes accross the top
  13. maybe try and do them yourself? That's what we did because none of the invites we found in our budget were exactly what we wanted. I should be posting pictures pretty soon. They're pretty simple, a boarding pass, only one page. It has the ceremony info and it directs people to our wedding website for more details and how to book their trip and wedding week events. We know we are going to update the time of reception, whether we're having a cocktail hour, etc. so there was no point in including that now on the invites because we're not sure on the times yet. The main thing right now is to get people booked into our group. We printed them at staples because none of our printers were good enough, but it was pretty inexpensive.
  14. I can't really see it, but when you write a new message click on my media button and attach it to the message or open a photobucket account (photobucket.com), upload it on there, copy the URL code on the right of the picture and paste it here by clicking on the button with a little picture (second row of buttons, beside the hyperlink button)
  15. I'm getting married at Azul Fives and we decided to cave in and we're paying for each table to be decorated like this: So we're bringing the centrepieces, the bridesmaid bouquets, photobooth stuff, the guestbook, and some other decorations like string lights and probably other arrangements for the altar/head table
  16. We're probably going to use pomanders on the chairs against the aisle. I'm thinking one every other aisle and alternate on the other side, if that makes any sense. We're getting white wooden garden chairs and I like them without many things on them.
  17. thanks for the videos! That is so useful. I agree that for the ceremony less is more. It's just so pretty up there. I definitely thought the terrace was bigger though. After seeing all that wind I know my hair has to go up if I don't want a big tangly mess by the end of the night. I'm wearing a longer veil so veil weights are a must! I'm going to need like 50 of those haha.
  18. we are really struggling to stay under $15000. I guess I want a really pretty wedding but I still want to keep it under budget, so something's gotta give haha. My parents are helping out a lot, they paid for my dress and they're paying for the photographer. I'm still trying to keep it at $15000 total no matter what, even if we don't pay for everything. We're basically setting aside money each month for the big ticket items like the trips, the wedding itself and videographer. Everything else that I'm bringing from here I try to buy month to month so that it doesn't seem like so much. I'm always looking out for the next coupon and doing as much DIY as I can. I also try to borrow supplies that I'll only use once from friends who already have them, like an embossing machine, etc. I check e-bay and kijiji once in a while to find deals here and there. It's still all adding up pretty quickly though.
  19. I have a man of honor (my brother) and a maid of honor. My fiancé has his two sisters on his side . If my best friend from childhood can come she will be on my side too Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. @@emmacarter wow I absolutely love your dress! it's gorgeous, it reminds me of mine hahah so I guess that's why I love it so much
  21. Another thing to keep in mind is that if you want your wedding in peak season the earlier the better . I lied actually, I guess I've been planning since January 2013! When I got engaged haha. I started doing the little things like research and getting a general picture of what I wanted. This June we booked the hotel and that's when things really got rolling. There's only so much you can plan without reserving anything. If you don't have as much time as I had definitely talk to a travel agent to get some guidance about what resorts fit your budget and your vision for your wedding. I can certainly recommend mine if you live in Canada. The planning process hasn't been stressful because we have so much time, I'm actually really enjoying it but it is a big step in our lives and I found that sometimes getting used to that can be a little challenging (we don't live together so it is a really big step for us at least!). Having lots of time helps you adjust slowly and also it's easier on the wallet. We are trying to buy things slowly month to month rather than making huge payments on everything.
  22. I don't think it's too early. We started planning in June this year and our wedding is not until August of 2015. We got pretty lucky since the prices at our hotel just increased and so we got the older ones . It definitely gives you enough time to do things calmly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  23. The day i got engaged was actually a surprise glow party I had organized for my fiancé haha. I got a whole bunch of glow sticks at the dollar store and they were pretty good. I don't know how other ones are but these ones lasted the whole night. We only had one incident in which one of our guests bent one way too much and it broke on him staining his white shirt but he said it was his fault. We didn't have any other issues and they are supper cheap! We're thinking of buying more for the wedding Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. I would never ever ship my dress off. That's like asking for more stress on top of everything haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  25. I know that for lomas you have to go through your coordinator and they'll add it to your summary sheet Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
