yes, transat is the only company that goes to azul fives from Canada starting in 2015. This is good and bad at the same time. Bad because there are no other options so you either like their price or move on, but good because it deters people from booking on their own and outside of your party. Basically if your guests are finding a better price, then chances are you can find a better price. Both kmk2016 and I have the same travel agent and she has been able to block our rooms a year and a bit in advance. I'm sure she won't have a problem getting quotes for you either, let us know if you want her contact #. We had another hotel in mind before booking Azul Fives. The prices were about the same but they gave us less free people (1 every 20 rooms that booked vs. 1 every 10) and to reserve the room block they required us to pay $150 for all of our guests upfront (non refundable, so you can see the problem with that). We had also really liked Beach Palace in Cancun but we had the same problem was you, we didn't want people to spend an arm and a leg. The quotes we got for Azul Fives was really reasonable and around our budget of $1500-2000 per person. The most expensive room comes right under $2000 with taxes included. You will not get a deal as you would if you book last minute for two people but they give you 30% off for wedding parties booked 9 months in advance or more. This means the prices will probably go up from your quote up until a few weeks before the wedding, when they're trying to sell off any leftover rooms they might have. Of course, you can't book a whole wedding on sell-off rooms because they might have 3 rooms left, if any. That's the trade-off. If the prices do go down for whatever reason our TA told us we can ask for an adjustment with Transat (as long as they're not sell-offs). Unfortunately, most hotels only allow to have outside parties until 11 or maybe 12 max. This is a huge issue for me and one of my biggest compromises to have a destination wedding. If this is the only reason you're not choosing Azul Fives I'd recommend that you think about it because you won't find many differences with other hotels. We're planning on hitting the hotel club afterwards or getting some kind of transportation for everyone to go downtown to a club there. Playa is quite safe from what I've heard, of course always use common sense. I've only been to Cancun and we used all public transportation there to get to the clubs, I never felt unsafe. @ getting the $1700 waived? lucky you! how many people are you bringing?

They are so hard to find! We even considered going to the states to see if we could find something. The hardest thing for my fiance is finding a suit that isn't too big around the waist or too long but I'm taking him this weekend and seeing if we find anything that he likes. He's decided that he wants a suit but we're thinking of linen pants and vest for my brother, the man of honor. I'll ask him about the suspenders but I'm not sure he'll like that.
-
he wants a fitted suit in kind of an ivory or light sand color. I'll check those as well. thanks!
-
He doesn't like wearing suits and only wears them for special occasions (too bad because he looks so good in them). He's a civil engineer and so he can't really wear them to go to construction zones. He's also a pretty small guy so I'm hoping that we'll be able to find something at Mexx. If not, we'll have to bite the bullet and order online and hope for the best. Even if we have to pay for alterations afterwards it will still be cheaper than getting one made here.

Thanks @@candle23 @@Meandhim @@kmk2016 I'll look into islandimporter and Mexx. The fiance saw the suits at studiosuits and he told me that he likes the ones from suitopia more. I'll probably order sample fabric from suitopia and compare them to studiosuits anyway so I'll probably borrow those sometime . I checked how much I'd be looking at if getting it done by a tailor here and apparently it's anywhere from $1000 and up, more around 2k or 3k. I want him to look good but that's a bit much. I feel super guilty saying "he'll only wear it once" because so will I with my dress but yet I paid almost $900 for it . Chances are he will wear it more times than I'll wear my dress.

Any Other Calgary 2014 Brides?
TinkerSofi replied to Mrsktobe's topic in Canadian Destination Wedding Group
I got mine at Blissful Bridal and they have some really pretty dresses and their service is great. I should also mention their prices are really good. I also went to Jessica and Rykiss (i think that's how it's spelled) and they had some really nice ones as well for good prices. I agree, whatever you do don't go to The Bridal Center. I went there first because I figured that since it's so big I'd be able to find something. They were way overpriced, they barely showed me anything for my $1500-$2000 budget and the consultant seemed like she had been partying all night and the last thing she wanted to do was help me. I didn't go to Ethos but I got my grad dress there back in the day. I remember I went with a friend to try on a few dresses and they barely even said hi to us. I guess they figured we wouldn't buy anything. I ended up buying there because I found a dress that I really liked but not because of their costumer service. It's also very expensive. -
I'd say you probably have a meeting place. We're all creatures of habit and tend to go to the same places haha so if you want to meet people at the beach, chances are everyone is sitting at the same spot as they were the day before or close by. I personally like small resorts, especially with the whole finding people thing. Chances are you will always be running into one another. I guess the beach is kind of far from the rooms so i'd have to make sure that I bring everything with me when I leave the room but with all the eating that goes on at all inclusives I will definitely need the walk.

I'm wondering where you guys are getting the groom attire? My fiance is set on wearing a suit and even though he bought a gorgeous charcoal suit, it's wool, so I don't think it will be very caribbean friendly in the middle of August. I'm looking for a linen suit but I can't find them anywhere in Calgary (we even looked last year and nothing, everything is wool). I even thought of going to a tailor and getting it made for him but that's probably going to cost as much if not more than my dress. I also saw suits in suitopia.com and indochino but I don't know if I dare to order online. What is everyone else doing?

@@Lilgabri03 thanks! After booking Azul Fives I actually considered whether Sensatori was maybe a better choice. I heard Fives is a bit more expensive and I'm already dealing with the guilt of asking guests to travel for my wedding. Other than that, we liked that Fives was closer to Playa which means more things for people to do

I'm jealous haha. One huge favour. The main thing I'm stressing out over is where we're going to go after the reception is done. I want to know what the atmosphere is like at the Zky Bar. We love to dance all night long so that's what we're looking for. If I can wear my dress in there it would be awesome, but if not i'll have to get a cocktail dress. I want to know whether that bar is good enough or we might have to look into transportation for everyone to downtown Playa. I've heard from Sensatori brides that weddings sometimes take over the lounge but I want to make sure that it's the same at the Fives. Please and thank you

TinkerSofi replied to cneedham's topic in Newbies!!
go on facebook under settings and then on the left there's a column, towards the bottom it says "apps" click on there, find the one for best destination wedding and then make sure in the middle column it says "only me", otherwise click on edit at the far right and change it to "only me". You should be good to go then -

Once you book your hotel you'll rack up posts like no ones business haha. @@MissJen3 make sure you go on your app settings on Facebook and don't allow notifications for this app. Otherwise people will see what you're posting. I was so paranoid that people would see my dress when I posted it haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
I know how you feel. Were a month out from our deadline and no one has booked yet [emoji22]. I'm the same way! You send me an invitation saying: you need to RSVP, or you need to put down $150 and boom! Done. I'm starting to get a little desperate that no one will book and it will just be us haha. I know this is totally irrational but I just feel that everything will fall into place when we know how many people will be there Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I agree! We're using LaurieLee as well and when we met with her we didn't have to shop around. We just got a really good vibe from her. Just meet up with a few people and see what happens! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'm so hoping we can head over to the lounge area at the hotel and I'll be able to keep wearing my dress. I just don't want to take it off after a few hours. I love it that much and I want to enjoy every minute of the day with it haha. I'm also having another reception in Argentina so I'll wear it yet again! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It's funny I was totally in love with the cornflower blue before I even started planning a destination wedding. Then I thought it might be too much blue but I saw some pictures on google and I actually liked how it looked so I decided to go with it anyway. How about having the white flowers and a few colored flowers that match or go well with your colors? I think at the end of the day the colors for the whole thing are more important than the bouquet so I'd probably try to work the bouquet around my colors, if that makes any sense, but I don't know if it's the same for you. I just think the color of the bouquet will be much more easily forgotten than the feel that colors give to a wedding. For example, a black, white and hot pink wedding has a different feel than one in pastel colors.

go to tickerfactory.com you can make it and then under settings for this website where it says signature paste the link for the ticker. It will post it automatically on your posts. I'm sure you can change your name to anything you want. You could also just drop the middle name and have two last names instead. Although if you don't want to use your maiden name anymore but still have it, the middle name option might be better.
-
Your wedding colors don't have to match your bouquet exactly. You can just pick something that will complement it. I think you can still go with coral and have pink flowers, white and orange. It took me a while to pick the colors too and I think I changed them like 3 times ahaha. Keep in mind that it is important but I haven't really seen a bad color for a wedding so I'm sure you won't regret whatever color you choose. My colors are cornflower blue and blush pink. My bouquet is mostly ivory/white and I think it has a few blush colored roses in there.

@@andreaberretta thanks for the pictures! They assure me that we made the right choice . A few questions for you: Did you try the beach? What did you think of it, was it too rocky or was it good enough for swimming and snorkeling? Did you go to their lounge? What kind of music do they play, do people dance, how busy is it? Thanks!

We're totally on the same page! I love the name my parents gave me. I am so lucky my fiance doesn't get offended or think any less of my love for him for wanting to keep my name. I also don't want to deal with all the hassle, paperwork and then explaining to everyone who knows me that I've changed my last name. In terms of kids, we're latin and we have two last names from the time we're born. They will probably have his last name and my first last name (Just as I have my dad's and my mom's) This is a topic that I'm so passionate about too because I'm kind of a feminist. I believe that if we have the same rights and responsibilities as men, it should be my personal choice to do with my name as I please. I don't think I could ever marry a man who tried to force me to take his last name, it's a non-negotiable for me ahaha and I had my mind made up way before I met my fiance.

I agree. I wish that if they're trying to force a vendor on you that at least be someone who offers a variety of good services at a reasonable price. Unfortunately it seems to me that it's just another way for resorts to make money. Pictures for a wedding are so important, people should be free to choose Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
