Anyone Else Overwhelmed With Cost?
TinkerSofi replied to kcole123's topic in Wedding Etiquette, Traditions, to dos
@@BrideToBeJolie yeah! they said they will run some numbers and let me know. I really hope they can make it but I also don't want to get my hopes up. I'm hoping that I can help them with one free person and spread that among everyone coming from over there so everyone gets a bit of a discount. -
Anyone Else Overwhelmed With Cost?

I know, I feel awful feeling that way. I am really glad that they're all coming but when the bill comes in, different story haha, especially because the bill is in USD! -
Anyone Else Overwhelmed With Cost?

our guest list is getting out of control as well haha! On one side it's great because the more the merrier but then the costs come in and ouch! A couple of days before the booking deadline many had not booked and we thought that we'd have a 30 people wedding. Just when I had come to terms with the fact that we'd have a smaller wedding than we thought everyone booked and now we have close to 50 guests! About 10 are not staying at our hotel but that's ok. Yesterday I also found out that the land only costs for my family from Argentina is much less than we had thought, so here we are with the possibility that some might be able to make it -

Any Other Calgary 2014 Brides?

I also asked how much it is for the marriage license at the registry. It's around $80 give or take. @@kmk2016 you probably need their elopement package, most of the officiants offer it and they're cheaper. Some also have destination wedding packages so I'm assuming it's something super small Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

Exactly! For us it will be just our immediate families (well, half of his because his mom and sister are in Colombia) and we will probably have it at my house. I want to get married on Aug 4 because 4 is my lucky number haha (so stupid I know) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Yeah I think your travel agent would know better. Go to the karisma website and click where it says specials. The free cocktail should be under weddings. We are 32 right now. Only 1 away from our 3rd free person! Ugh! So I'm basically going to pressure someone to book with our group haha. That third person is the only way my best friend can join us from Argentina Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

From friends who have gone to destination weddings they said the bride and groom spread out what they needed to bring among their guests haha. One person would take a vase, another one the flowers, etc. That way no one was over the weight limit. I was thinking of putting those things in a plastic container and taking them with me as carry on.

@sueann20 I think how many free people you get depends either on the company you're booking through or the hotel. I'm from Canada, going with Transat Air and we get every 11th person free. That's a really good deal, we got quoted at another hotel in Cancun and they wanted to give us every 20th person free. I've heard from others at other hotels that they get every 17th The free cocktail hour is based on the amount of rooms booked under your group. 10-15 gets you a 2 hr cocktail hour, 16-20 gets your a 3 course dinner, 21 or more you get a cocktail our and 3 course dinner and over 50 you get free unlimited events .

I had originally chosen dulce de leche, thinking that it would be a vanilla cake with real dulce de leche as a filling. It turns out that the cake itself is dulce de leche flavoured. Now, I come from the country of dulce de leche, and dulce de leche flavoured things are usually not very good so we changed our cake. I need to ask about tres leches, it is sooo good. I think there's a couple of places here in Calgary that sell it. I used to buy it at a mexican restaurant at Kingsland Farmers Market (now called the market on mcleod). i'm not sure if they're still there. @@Aliyedwinramirez yes, they are different. Dulce de leche is a kind of like a jam, made out of milk and sugar or condensed milk. I'm not sure how they make tres leches cake but it's a really sweet and moist cake, not a filling. They taste very different but both are just as heavenly

@ that's what I like the most about it because it's an A-line but the actual skirt is like a column or sheath shape, definitely tighter around the curves. It was a perfect combination of both and because the overlay is just one layer of tulle it's actually pretty light. So yeah, choose what makes you happy. I had found a chiffon dress that I really liked before trying this one on but there was just no comparison. I never wanted a chiffon dress to begin with, only when we decided to have a destination wedding everyone seemed to have those ones and I thought it was the only choice. I'm not going to lie, it's not as breezy as a chiffon gown, but it's also not as heavy as lace or countless other fabrics. I'll probably die of heat on my wedding day anyway but I don't care hahah, I think that would happen with any dress so I might as well put on something that I really want. Just search around, there are options out there -

Hi Calgary brides! I was wondering for those getting legally married here at home before going to your destination, who is marrying you? How far in advance should I book the officiant? And what are the price ranges? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -

I say pick what you like. I was also trying all chiffon. They looked nice but when I tried this one I just knew chiffon wasn't going to cut it for me. We're not getting married on the beach so I think this will look really nice. This one isn't as flowy as chiffon but whatever [emoji39], it's still much lighter than it looks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
@@Smellsey it was a bit of both. I kind of suggested it if I knew someone in that circle was also traveling alone but then they made the final arrangements. You do have to play matchmaker a bit and try to group people up that you think will get along. I tried to group people that belonged to the same group of friends, that was usually my rule of thumb. Others really insisted on having a plus one (and they asked us for months), or if they plain out don't know anyone else, we gave them a plus one because we thought they'd have a better time with someone they know.

that's actually a nice touch! I mean since we're paying for it I would really like for it to be eaten haha. Our tradition is that the bride and groom save the top tier, freeze it and eat it on their 1st wedding anniversary, but considering that we will be in mexico for a week I don't think that will be possible so I like the idea of people taking a piece to their rooms.
-
We got the cheapest one of two tiers. It also won't be enough for everyone but I've read so many times that by the time you get around to the cake no one eats it because everyone is full. What a waste! I also would like to know if we can taste them once there just in case we change our minds last minute
