  1. Awesome! Thanks for the info! We're still not sure if we are going to do them because we have a lot of expenses right now and I'm the only one with an income at the moment (since my fiancé is still a student). The pictures would be really nice to have but I have to be realistic that I can't afford everything haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. I like the first one too. Etsy I think is your best friend in this case. I found a bunch of hair accessories there that I really liked. It's hard to decide now. Here are my ideas. I would like to try a few before leaving so I know what works best with my face. I definitely want the bangs off my face but not pulled back too tight. I love dancing and it makes spinning really hard when you can't spot due to all the hair covering your eyes. this last one the bun is too elongated (banana style) and I don't like that, but I like the rest of it. Sorry about the large size of the pics. I was too lazy to make them smaller hahaha
  3. I agree here. Maybe you can add a matron of honour without changing your friend's title. Of course the matron would be more involved in this case than the MOH but it would avoid the feeling of being "demoted" for your friend. In a way, you would be recognizing your sister-in-law as an important person in the wedding and you would avoid hurting your relationship with your friend. You can also have two maids of honours. I do, for different reasons, one is here in the same country to help me but the other one is my oldest friend. DW are so non traditional that I thought "to hell with the silly titles" hahah. I think the choice really depends on how your friend would take it. Some people really don't give a crap about the wedding until you ask them to step down and then all hell breaks loose, but they weren't even being helpful before (or after, you know, once they're all offended). Others might take it really well and thank you for taking the responsibility off their shoulders, which they didn't want in the first place. It seems that your friend is the former so unless you don't care if the relationship goes south maybe just leave her where she is and give your sister in law some more recognition.
  4. I know that if you reserve the sky deck you get all the chairs you need (although they might not all be decorated like in the package) But it might be cheaper to pay the $15 per chair vs the 1700 to rent out the sky deck. Depends on what you want I've had no luck negotiating. Maybe I haven't tried hard enough or I'm not bringing them enough money with 50 guests but just an FYI. It might be easier to negotiate with the onsite coordinators Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. that's a very good question to which I don't have the answer haha. We're planning on putting edible favours in little boxes as well but I guess I should ask if we're allowed and if they also count as part of the set up fee. We're paying set up fees anyway so I don't think it will make much of a difference whether they charge us for them or not
  6. Another thing, if you put down your deposit for your photographer sometimes it's non refundable. Mine isn't refundable if I cancel Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. oh ok. We just have to pay for the extra people to eat, it's still cheaper than a day pass for each of them. On another note, I really like Samuel Luna's photos . It is a tough choice because your current photographer takes really nice pictures too but I feel like Samuel has a bit more of an artistic touch to the pictures so it depends on what you like better, and whether you want to pay the outside vendor fee. I really like your current photographer anyways so I think either way you'll have great pictures
  8. On the plus side. I think when you pay the outside vendor fee you don't have to include the day pass
  9. I still don't know if being a deal hunter is a good thing. I always end up spending more money because I find everything so cheap haha. On the other hand, I rarely buy things that are full priced unless I really like them or really need it.
  10. Yeah I think that's weird too. I'm working with LaurieLee and she'll usually respond within a few hours of me sending her a message, even when I sent her the first email to meet up and talk about our options. Maybe give her a call? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. My fiance calls me the deal hunter hahah. Not just on wedding stuff. I swear every time I go somewhere the deals just follow me. I always go to stores and I'm like "Oh, I like this" and boom, 50% off haha so he always says he needs to take me shopping with him. But I also spend a lot of time searching around for the best price on the most important/expensive things.
  12. I need your guy's opinion. The other day for fun I started thinking about this. I'm a huge fan of the little mermaid so I have the soundtrack on my iphone and this song came up. I loved it and I thought maybe I could walk down the aisle to it. What do you guys think, is it too cheesy? I agree with Calgarybride above. I think you should have your own song but I also love over the rainbow haha. I love the idea of Danza Kuduro. I'm a huge fan of that song and it also reminds me of Cancun and summer
  13. That's is tough. I'd be upset if it was our family too. Hopefully it will all sort itself out. At the rate houses are selling in Calgary I don't think they'll have much trouble selling it. I also don't think the prices for your resort are crazy. I saw them somewhere and I thought that was doable for most people. I just hate the guilty feeling when people ask you why you expect for them to pay so much . Or why you picked such an expensive resort Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  14. And in that case I'd feel awful but it's not my problem anymore. They knew how much it was when they signed up and they knew the deadline. So, you're not Nutella haha. I know a few will back out last minute and I just hope it's not some of our closest friends. Also from those that didn't book with our group I'm estimating a 10%dropout. It's always easier for your mind to accept it but when the time comes it's hard not to be disappointed. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  15. Haha next time people give me grief I'll tell them "I'm not Nutella for crying out loud" haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. Resort and photographer were the hardest ones for us. My fiance's friends told him that they were expecting to pay 1200 with taxes. We just didn't like the resorts for that price. We've been to places for that price as a vacation and they were great but not what we pictured for our wedding. It's true, you can't make everyone happy so make yourself happy [emoji6] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I agree with you there, most prices for the stuff from Lomas is crazy and the stuff isn't even that great so we're opting for getting a few things from them and bringing most from home. Make sure you get your login information to your planning website http://karisma.theweddingbuilder.com/Home/Login things will always be updated on there so you can make sure any changes are loaded to your account. My WC takes about 3 days to respond so I can deal with that, also for most things the answers will be in this forum or the Azul Fives 2014 thread, then it's just a matter of getting confirmation from your WC. Maybe ask your WC if there's any way you can get quicker responses. Since moving to a team approach they might be able to do that. I prefer to get answers from the same WC even if it takes longer, but mine doesn't take weeks to reply so that might affect my opinion. I think the biggest thing for me is letting go of that control and trusting both the Miami and the on-site coordinators that they'll do a great job. I'm also trying to accept that something will go wrong probably but to try and let it go unless it's something huge. That's the only way I don't go insane with trying to plan something from so far away. Good to know that things are like they look in pictures!
  18. That always happens. When I wrote my thesis for school I swear I read the thing 100 times and had other read it and still found mistakes after printing it. It was too late then so I wouldn't worry about it , people will understand your message regardless
  19. I don't have experience with david's bridal but where I bought my dress they said alterations should be done 2-3 months before the wedding. Most brides lose weight when getting really close to their wedding but the changes depend where you are on your weight loss journey. If you still have quite a few pounds to shed 3 months might be a dramatic change but if you're almost done I don't think it will make too much difference 2-3 months out. Also, if you have a corset back it will be more forgiving of weight loss closer to the date.
  20. After seeing your engagement pictures I'm now wondering if maybe we can do them! I really liked yours and the price for your photographer was so reasonable! I know that's going to take some convincing with the fiance but I could just be like "It's my valentine's gift" and then he has no excuse haha. I think it's all coming together so nicely. We're also having a buffet because of prices and because it's just easier, if people don't like one thing they can get up and grab something else. We had gone with the cheapest option (because I was also cheap as hell) but once I realized that we were saving money on other places we decided to get the one that's a little more expensive but with a lot more choices. Also, the cheap one had corn on the cob as the side and I just didn't want to put my guests into that sticky situation of the corn spraying everywhere/getting stuck between their teeth haha. My fiance suggested putting some floss by their plates hahah, not happening. Every time someone says best day ever it reminds me of he movie tangled haha. I love that phrase
  21. Sheryl is your hairdresser!? haha She's also my dad's. The second I saw the mirrors I was like "wait, I know that place!" That's the place where I go to get my waxing . Calgary is such a small town sometimes haha. I used to go with Valina and Ella to get my hair done over there too but now my friend who is a hair dresser does it . Anyways I enjoyed reading your thread. I thought it was funny, the accessories I suggested are pretty much what you're thinking of getting. I think your hair looks great with more relaxed bangs . You e-pictures also look great! I don't know why you say you look bad smiling, I think you have a great smile and you should show it off . I like the groom's shirt. I think the blue one looks better than the white, or he just looks happier with it haha. Your gifts for your fiance and kids are so cute <3. Looking forward to the next post!
  22. If someone wants brazilian in the Calgary area I can recommend my aesthetician. I was really scared because I had some bad experiences before but it wasn't so bad. She was actually the one who convinced me to get it done one day when I went to wax my legs. You definitely have to go to someone who knows exactly where to pull before ripping the strip off. It definitely helps with the pain. It is a bit awkward because you're basically naked in front of a stranger but it's done rather quickly . The second time you go it's not as awkward but if I had to go to someone new I would be embarrassed all over again hahah.
  23. Hi Vicki, could you send me the pictures of what it looks like as well? I'm kind of worried that the reception will be too dark. My e-mail is sblopezb@@gmail.com. Thanks!
  24. great to know! We're flying with them too
