Meandhim - Grand Palladium Bavaro - Nov 2015

Yeah I feel bad about asking too much of them. They're both students so I paid for their dresses but that means I have to keep their gifts super simple. I can't pay for their hair and makeup, however one of them is really good with hair so she'll probably do the others and we have a couple of hair dressers in our group . As for the makeup, I'm ok but doing it on myself, I really can't do it on other people haha. -
It's $8 extra for dinner at the sky deck now?! We're paying $15, well I feel ripped off haha. That's too bad that you have to get more time with the photographer. I feel you there because I'm literally trying to squeeze every minute that we're paying for haha. The positive is that you don't necessarily have to pay for an official cocktail party and people can do as they choose for a couple of hours. At least I've been to weddings like that and I didn't mind at all. As for the wind, I would really try not to stress about it, it's like worrying whether it's going to rain on the wedding day. You just can't control it. However, September is super hot down there so maybe the wind will be a good thing . Otherwise, I've seen the Oriolla grill set up for a reception and it looks pretty nice too!

Hi! That's great that you're considering AF. It's a very nice hotel from what I heard. I'm also from Calgary and yes, as Canadians we don't get any perks. To be honest the whole free wedding events is great to have but I don't consider it a must anymore. You can easily meet people for drinks and have informal cocktail parties. I wish we had them but it's not the end of the world. The only thing you can get if you book through one of their certified travel agents is a free spa package (with your hair and makeup and their trials included), or a free cocktail party. This really helped us out a lot. We got every 11th person free, but sometimes it depends on the tour company as they are the ones who make that offer. Are you planning on traveling during high season? That can also really affect prices. We paid $1700 for the cheapest room from Calgary. This was before their prices went up. My TA told me that because they've done all the renos to the hotel the prices have gone up so we got a really good deal. If you want I can give you her contact info. She's been great with us, so maybe you can see what she can offer you. I don't know if it will be any different from what you already have though.

Ok so I looked into the dresses. I got confused, they were actually $160 with the discount . They're called Venus Bridal. I'm in Calgary so I got them at a bridal store here but you can probably search what bridal stores sell that brand over there. Here is the website: http://www.venusbridal.com/bridesmaids/bella-maids/BM1695 -

I hadn't seen your planning thread!! It sounds like you guys are just meant for each other. I'm sorry about all the stuff you two had to go through in the last year but I'm sure you came out as a stronger couple for it. Your gran reminds me a lot of mine haha. Mine luckily hasn't had to deal with illnesses but she such a strong willed woman, independent, full of energy, and she always does what she wants without caring what people think or say about her. I really admire her. They are such good role models . I love all your planning so far. I have the same flowers from Michael's, however I bought them a long time ago because I liked them and now I'm not so sure they go with anything that I have planned so I don't know if I'll use them. I might keep them to make a flower arrangement for my house . This kind of reminds me of the wedding theme haha. I, like you, have no wedding theme, just a bunch of things that (I think) go well together haha. It's actually called a whimsical theme, so we're not totally lost lol. There's a name for the randomness! Sometimes it makes it hard though because there's no theme and so you like all these things and are afraid that you'll end up all over the place. I think from what you posted, things still follow a common thread, even if you can't quite name it. I'm sorry to hear about AC messing everything up. They're definitely not my fave to travel with but I'm sure it will all work out in the end. Thankfully you have a good TA who has your back. For bridesmaid dresses, ours are really similar, they were $150 and they gave us a discount for getting 3 so I ended up paying $120 for each. I'm going to go now and try and find what they're called. For the headband, you could add a ribbon to it or leave it like that. They can probably hide the elastic with your own hair and no one will know. I guess it depends what look you want to go for. Some girls really like the ribbon. The only reason why I didn't want the ribbon is because I find that it ends up slipping and coming undone all night, and so my hair looks like a big hot mess at the end . It looks very pretty though -
Oot/welcome Letter Suggestions
TinkerSofi replied to pddcmc's topic in Wedding Registry, Wedding Gift Bags, and OOT bags
we're doing that too. We don't have a lot of set events because we want people to relax and enjoy their vacation but we're including things that are booked like welcome dinner and the times for the wedding event. Everything else we're just going to wing it hahah. I'll probably add a little note afterwards for the bridal party's bags with the rehearsal dinner date and time -
Questions For Those That Did The Ipod Hook Up
TinkerSofi replied to misbosox's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
Spotify uses wi fi ritht? I'm afraid that the wi fi will crap out in the middle of the party and it totally kills the mood. Internet can be kinda spotty over in Mexico from my previous experiences at least so I don't want to risk it. I'm afraid people will get bored too but then I remember that we always have some awesome house parties over here at home with the same people, this will just be extra awesome. Also, my friend had her computer hooked up for her wedding (no dj). Honestly it was one of the best weddings ever. We all danced until they kicked us out haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk -
Questions For Those That Did The Ipod Hook Up
TinkerSofi replied to misbosox's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
I was just looking at it this weekend. It sounds really practical! I think we're totally going to go that route because we also can't really afford the DJ either. -
Are there any other Calgary brides with their weddings coming up? This thread has been a bit dead. Anyway, I found this and thought I'd share. There's an even called the bridal swap next weekend where you can buy all kinds of used wedding items. This is the facebook page and the website: https://www.facebook.com/TheOriginalBridalSwapCalgary http://www.bridalswap.ca/

aww that looked so cute! I need to use this haha. I won't have the sunglasses there but i'm sure I can make it work anyway . I'm sure our friends are pretty smart to figure it out, and I honestly don't want to put "instructions" on how to read some freaking fans haha. That would just be ridiculous. I need to give people more credit

this seems really high for Now Jade. I'm surprised. Definitely shop around and maybe play around with different dates if that's the hotel you want

Our Dw: Dreams Riviera Cancun 17 Apr 2015
TinkerSofi replied to pddcmc's topic in Destination Wedding Planning Journal
I really liked the article you posted too. I kept it in mind as we were working on the script for the ceremony this weekend. you have been one busy bee! It's so close, I'm super excited for you and to hear how everything went. Best of luck on your wedding week and enjoy!! -
You should totally get them! I really don't mind. It's not like we're going to be wearing them at the same time and they're so beautiful. Originally I also wanted to have royal blue shoes but I couldn't find any that weren't super high and then eventually I just decided to go for silver/champagne. Then I found the pink ones and I fell in love I just remembered something about the signs, with our package for the tables we get these menus that are in periwinkle and blush pink. I'll see if I can recreate something different. Juan will not like this because he'll say "i thought we had made a decision already" haha. I just always have to keep trying. Thanks! That's the one Juan liked too. I'll head to the dollar stores and wal-mart today to see if I can find any frameless picture frames to put them in so they're not blowing all over the place. I also have to make the same sign saying photobooth and to indicate for people to find their fans. @@calgarybride2015 I love the saying that you put up there about "Stay cool, be cool" (oops, sorry it was "to stay cool, to make you cool" haha) I really want to use it. Now my dilemma is, the fans will have the person's name and their table number for the reception, but they'll be getting them during the ceremony. Do you think it would be confusing if you pick up your fan and it says XXX table 1 but there are no tables, or is it pretty self-explanatory? Should I add a sign about it? I always think things are kind of common sense but apparently common sense is the least common sense of all . Or should I just think of a new seating chart all together? I honestly can't talk with anyone else about these little silly things because everyone says "you're overplanning". Maybe I am, but I need to know these things! haha. You guys understand though.

I don't know why I read this haha. I kind of answered on another thread but I thought Staples did a pretty good job at printing and cutting our invitations. It was also fairly cheap. But it might also take you a trial or two to get the colors right. You'll even find that their printers will be different from yours so it's a whole other story. They printed a proof for us but I'm not sure how many they'll print if you want to change the colors. I just tweaked them a bit after the proof and sent them over hoping for the best. I thought they turned out really well. Something I just thought of, if you're using the tag with the picture, how about trying photo paper? Sometimes photos on regular paper look pretty different. If it still doesn't work or is just too much, it's probably easier to print the simpler ones

Juan decided on #1 as well so #1 it is. You ladies are right @@calgarybride2015 @snswedding2016 , the more I looked at it the more I felt like it was the best fitting one for the wedding. I love chevron but it's kinda late now to incorporate it and I have nothing else that goes with it. The frame on the black sign actually also goes really well with some little swirls I had on the invitations. I will definitely miss the planning but I think more than the planning itself I'll miss the projects. I've started stashing a bunch of sewing projects to get into after all this is done . Maybe I can also learn a new type of dance when all my money isn't being sucked into the wedding haha. We finished stencilling our OOT bags today! yay! It was the first time Juan helped me out with them and all he'd say at first was "wow this is so much work" "why don't we just send them to get printed" "I can't believe I agreed to this". This is the guy who asked me not to finish all of them because he wanted to help. I basically told him to either shut up and help or leave me to it haha so then he got into it .

True, a theme would be nice. I don't really have one, which is why I'm kind of all over the place haha. The best I have are just a bunch of words to describe it vintage, lace, and travel hahah (so random). I'm definitely in between #1 and #3. I think #1 would go nicely with the guestbook cards that I made, which are kind of a vintage travel thing. I also got my inspiration from this picture from the hotel. This is what our tables will look like, minus those centerpieces: Then, I like the third one because of the shape of the little label. It kind of goes with our table numbers and with this picture, but yeah the chevron probably doesn't go with anything (as much as I love it): I have to try and print it. I wonder how the "chalkboard" effect will translate on paper. Maybe i'll try something else all together. Here I go obsessing again haha.

I love everything. The robes turned out really nice! I love the tags and I was thinking of putting together a little beauty kit of the bridesmaids too. There's so many nice things out there for bridesmaids gifts. I wish I could give them the world, but I'm paying for their dresses so I'm going keep their gifts small for the day of. I think the paper bags and stickers will be more than enough. The stickers turned out awesomely and they'll look great once put together . I agree with you that the little muslin bags are cute, but at the end of the day does anyone really care whether they're paper or muslin, except for us of course haha.

Wedding planning is back to full swing! Yesterday I worked on the signs to put around the reception. I came up with 3 different ideas but still need to decide which one I'll pick. I'll ask Juan today what he thinks. In the meantime, which one do you guys like better? I had to take a screenshot because I don't think most people have that font, so it might change it if I put it as a ppt. I've also been working on the idea of the fans as seating chart. I'm planning on dividing them between ladies and gents and attaching a tag with the person's name and their table number to them. The ladies' fans will have a pink ribbon and the guys' will have a blue one since they're our wedding colors anyway. The idea right now is to put them in a box or basket/bucket of sorts with one of the signs above saying "find your table Ladies" and another with "find your table gentlemen". It's a fairly small wedding so I think dividing them into two groups should do the trick in terms of finding your fan easily. Something along these lines:

I think that's a great tip! @@calgarybride2015 I remember you mentioning that this helped so much, to have a list of people that you needed to take pictures with. It's is now on my "to do" list . The first look is looking more and more likely. I'll talk it over with Juan today again but I know he'll say yes since we already discussed it and he had liked the idea . He actually even preferred it because we'd look nice and fresh on our pictures. I was the one that wasn't sure so much. I do like doing presentations so I know that saying my vows, even though I'd be nervous, I'd be able to get through it. Juan is not so much of a public speaker, so I know he'd suffer through it haha. He just had his presentation for the final project at school and he said it was the worst . I know he was surrounded by strangers but he's just not the type to like the spotlight on him. If you can do the BDR do it! I kind of wish I had because now I feel like I'm going into this totally blind. At the time the finances didn't add up to go, and by the time we could have gone it would have been like 2 months before the wedding, so no point. The good thing is that we have quite a few days before the wedding to scope things out and hopefully be familiar with the resort by then. I can't wait for those shoes to arrive! I really like the first ones I got, but I absolutely LOVE these ones haha . Thank you for the photography tips. I wasn't sure how much light you have "at sunset", I was comparing it to here and how at sunset there's still some light so you could take some cool looking pictures, but I think it's different over there. I'm sure glad I mentioned it here, you guys have been super helpful . We also want a short ceremony, Juan doesn't want it to go over 15 min. Apparently there's this one bar over there that doesn't have a lot of people, they have tequila testing there and it's a Mexican themed place. If it's quiet I think it'd work perfectly for mingling with everyone. Most people have at least seen each other at some point at one of the parties we'd had so they're not total strangers. Now I'm getting super excited!!
