  1. you could try something like craig's list. I'm guessing websites where they sell second hand dresses also charge some kind of consignment fee. You could check how much that is and check local consignment stores to see what is more convenient You could also post it here! The good thing is that because David's Bridal gowns are so popular you're likely to sell it quickly. People can easily try the dress on in their local David's Bridal and buy yours for a bit less .
  2. I went to a bridal show here in Calgary before we started planning and I didn't find it very helpful either. It's really geared towards local weddings, so unless you go to see travel agents there's not a lot of info we can use. I guess the invites and maybe dress boutiques can be somewhat useful. Even then, all the travel agencies we talked to during the fair didn't have much info or anything that would sell you on using them over anyone else. I was looking for maybe a few recommendations based on the rough amount of guests and the fact that we wanted a venue off the beach, just so that I could later research and contact them with a rough idea, but all they said was "send us an e-mail and we can get started". It's hard to narrow it down when they all say the same thing. The best thing I ever did was booking through someone that came recommended to me. She's honestly been great and even my parents the other day told me that they were really impressed that she's always on top of things. So my advice, ask other brides for their recommendation . It seems that good travel agents are not very easy to find.
  3. that's great! Keep up with the changes and the positive attitude. If you fall off the wagon, like most of us do at some point, just get back up and keep on going!
  4. @@diadiamond thanks! I'll let you know where I bought the sarongs when I get home. They were on ebay but I'm on my work computer right now and I run out of data on my phone, sigh. We'll see what happens with the dress next Monday when I got for my alterations appointment. I can't wait to see it all done and ready for me . The bridesmaid dresses should be here pretty soon too and I'm getting super excited to see them in the actual color. It's been 3 months and since I'm so anxious I'm going to give them a call and see what's up haha. I think the guests will love the little somethings we have for the bags haha. I'll be semi-putting them together soon so that I have as little to do as possible when we arrive. I'm basically assembling the first aid kits together and placing in each bag the sarong, the waterproof pouches and the welcome brochure. Then it's just a matter of putting a survival kit in each bag when we arrive and we're good to go! Our final timeline of events looks a bit different than what I posted and the reason is because we went with a more fun and informal feel to the welcome bags and the brochure, so my MOH tried to make something that would match that instead of having that really classy timeline with a bunch of other informal things haha. I am in love with the jewelry, that lady's store on etsy has tons of really nice things! In terms of the attire, at first I was very firm on "no shorts" but I didn't want to be unfair with the guys, it'll be really hot for long pants all night. Then I saw some really nice shorts for guys, kind of like the nautical look and I think that would look nice enough. I actually put together a page on the website with examples because people were kind of lost as to what to wear . As for the perks, some of them panned out but others didn't. We got our ceremony for free, but they didn't give us a private dinner, which isn't the end of the world. At least I'm getting my makeup and hair for free and plus the free ceremony I'm happy . @@calgarybride2015 when Juan proposed I was so shocked that he was going to place the ring on my left hand and I was like "no, it goes on this one" and gave him my right bahaha. It actually doesn't fit on my right hand unless it's cold out, and by that point it's dancing on my left hand haha.
  5. I agree with Calgarybride! There are some things at the dollar store but sometimes don't have much of a selection depending on what theme you're going with. However, I have never bought anything for full price at Michael's because it's so expensive, even if it takes me a few trips down there to get one item each time at 40%off. They do have a lot of nice things!
  6. yeah, I saw them on a picture and then realized they were in a bouquet that the resort offered, that's how I found the name haha. I didn't know they were called bridal veil. I just went to read about them and considering that they're difficult plants they might be really expensive so we might have to think of a replacement .
  7. I love your planning thread! The story of how you met is just so cute haha so I think it's very fitting that you're having a destination wedding . I love the colors you have chosen, we definitely thought about peacock colors at the beginning but then ended up changing them. I also love the pink/orange color palette as it seems easy to find local flowers with those colors. I was also thinking of delphiniums as an option for a blue flower. I think they're very pretty, although the painted orchids would look really nice too!
  8. Thanks! It was funny when we first saw them we liked the solid ties more and Juan was thinking of ordering a new one, then we saw them again and we liked the stripes one more, so he's keeping the one with the stripes for the wedding . I think it will look awesome when it's all together When my mom gave me the robe I really liked it and I love the color as well so I decided not to buy a new one @@diadiamond My bouquet has roses and I believe lilies. Juan's boutonniere will probably be made out of stephanotis, unless they quote us something ridiculous. The lapel on his suit is not very big, so he didn't want a rose because they're too big. He's also not a very big guy so a big flower would look kind of disproportionate on him. I wanted to put some real flowers on the centerpieces but when they quoted me $10USD per rose we decided not to. I basically made all of the centerpieces with the price of just the flowers had I gone with natural ones. I wasn't crazy about the idea of having fake flowers but honestly at this point I'm over it. No one will remember a wedding by whether they had real or fake flowers and the money I saved allowed us to put more money towards other things that were more important, at least for us. There are some really nice silk flowers out there! There's also some nice real touch flowers, which maybe I would have considered for the bridesmaid bouquets if I hadn't found those bouquets of roses .
  9. Oh and here is a picture of my "something old" robe haha Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. We went to pick up Juan's suit today since it had to get hemmed and one of the sleeves had to be made shorter. I put the ties against it and I'm really happy how it all looks Edit: ok the ties look so peach on this picture but they're very much pink haha and so is the blue, it's much brighter than the picture. Sorry the light was pretty crappy when I took the picture We also went to RW&co. And found some pants for the groomsmen. They're exactly the same blue as Juan's suit so yay! They'll just wear the pants, a white shirt and the solid pink tie Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. i thought you'd be staying at that hotel! but then she said grand riviera princess, i don't know if there's a difference but all of the hotels in that chain look amazing so it's nice to know for future visits haha. We do kind of have that problem too. The only ones who speak spanish only are Juan's parents, but they're kind of a big deal haha so we're going to do bilingual things. For our ceremony, it will be in English but our vows will be in Spanish. We thought about doing a bilingual ceremony and translate everything but it just gets to be too long. As for speeches, we'll keep them short and say them in english and spanish.
  12. I haven't read much into it but I think it's pretty good as it uses your heart rate to better calculate your sleep pattern as well as calories spent and everything Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. It is kind of a nike fuel band. It tracks your steps/calories burnt/ exercise and sleep, one of the new ones also tracks your heart rate . It's pretty cool but I know what you mean I've been dropping hints to Juan since Christmas and he says it's totally unnecessary and silly. I still want one. I like the sleep track the most and I think id use the heart rate monitor quite a bit. I'm a sucker for intense workouts and sometimes I feel like I push myself a bit too hard. 14. I love that with the flex you can get those nice bracelets. I'm wearing a charge and thinking of getting a charge HR, I like the fact that it keeps track of your heart rate but not so much that it looks so casual all the time
  15. It seems as though bad reviews kind of come in waves. I saw that a bunch of people got sick and hopefully they resolve that soon. I would definitely ask your TA about the extra charges or even your WC. trust me, sometimes I do wish we'd gone with another hotel but it's hard to say because chances are that there would have been other issues. Sometimes my guess is that they have a bad week or if they're really busy the service goes down, which you would expect in any place when they get busy. With the food thing, it might be a break out of something. I think it can happen anywhere. I went out locally a few weeks ago and I have no idea what happened but I was sick for a week. I felt as though a truck had run me over. Sometimes one person will start (who might have gotten sick out of the resort as far as we know) and at the end of the day, you're basically stuck with this bunch of people in one place so it's more likely for the virus or bacteria to get around. I really don't think it's the hotel's fault and I'm sure they're trying to fix it as this is a big deal for them. I get that the first instinct is to freak out because I do it too but I think we'll be ok Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  16. I'm only on birth control but my symptoms aren't so bad. Like I said, I know some women are on diabetes meds and it seems to help! Especially when you have insulin resistance. In terms of hair I've been getting laser treatments for years now. The hair will never go away completely but it's totally manageable and at least I don't get any new hair. I go for laser every 3 months but this time it lasted about 5. It has gotten much better than at the beginning. I've been breaking out quite a bit lately but I think it has to do with my late nights haha. Birth control really helps with he acne and also with the pain during periods. When I was 13 I got my period for a month straight and I didn't know that wasn't normal because it was only my second period. That's how they discovered it. The cysts are actually the diagnosis tell sign but they won't go away , although they won't usually cause other problems either. However if you feel like your ovary hurt maybe tell your doctor. If they did an ultrasound I'm sure they checked for any other abnormalities but it's better to be safe than sorry. When I moved to canada they took me off my birth control. That's when the hair started growing and I stopped getting regular periods for a year. I would have one once in a while and it was very painful. It actually took for my parents to pretty much fight with our family doctor at the time to get a referral to an endocrinologist. He kept saying I was fine and all he hair on my face was normal, even with my history [emoji36]. Let's just say at 14 those symptoms were terrifying and they caused me a lot of issues at school with being bullied, plus being new to a country. Anyways once treated things got a lot better. My periods are still irregular sometimes, they're not very heavy sometimes but my dr. Said that's totally fine, it just means that sometimes I don't ovulate which we know it's part of the whole syndrome but that's ok. At least we know the lining in the uterus is not getting thick or anything so I'm ok. I find exercise really helps though so keep at it! Of you put on weight easily definitely do some research on low GI foods as they will help to stabilize your blood sugar levels and keep everything running more smoothly Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. Does anyone have a fitbit? Want to add me as a friend ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. I love the nails! I might copy you haha. I'm glad you thought Brazilian wasn't that bad. We honestly make it way worse in our heads than it actually is. I got my eyebrows done yesterday and that hurts way worse haha
  19. I'm not a gamer but I thought the same thing when I saw the gazebo! It's fun to take some funky pictures but I don't know if i'd have my wedding there. Then those hanging things remind me of either a bee hive or these bull testicles that people hang on the back of their trucks over here (both horrible choices). I wish they had made a regular gazebo. oh well. I was surprised at how good the Oriolla grill looks when set up. It's definitely our back up location We also didn't want to make a big deal of our ceremony but I also wanted to do something. After all we are getting married haha. We're having a small ceremony in my backyard (if the weather cooperates) and I'm just wearing a short white dress .
  20. I had to look up the horseshoe tradition and I skimmed through some of the Scottish wedding traditions, they sound like fun! The wooden ones are really pretty and they look great on pictures, if you can get them I don't think you'll regret it I actually got a robe! I forgot to tell you guys haha. It's peach satin and it was actually my mom's when she was younger but it honestly looks like new. It's one size fits most and it's a little bit too big but it will do the job. I'll post a picture later . Let's just say today my legs were not picture approved hahah.
