  1. Thanks for asking Lauren... But as far as I know when it rains at Riviera Maya is always pouring rain... I have the same opinion as Tyrel! I am not going to think more in this. Hope we all have a wonderful sunny day. In case of having bad luck, we have decided to tell Vanessa at 1pm (when she comes with the weather report) that we still wanted the wedding outside and if it is going to rain, we will wait a while and stay less at Sports Bar for the appetizers. Or the guest will sit inside the gazebo instead of outside... Thanks once again! I wanted to know what Vanessa tells to other brides
  2. Good morning brides!! Liana, thanks for your comments about the earrings. Yours are really beautiful and elegant. And your shoes! Wow so fashion and cool! Your theme is going to be great wild and beach at a destination wedding!! Lauren, thanks for telling us the decoration for La Laguna. I have alredy all the things for the table. Tropical flowers centerpieces as well as small sand centerpieces with a lizantus flower inside them. I am also having the color starfishes for the seating cards and a menu for each person. I have to make them alredy but my inspiration for that is message in a bottle. Just like this. I alredy have the small bottles and special paper, but I have not still started with this because I do not know the name of the wines and champagne to put it down at the menus. Thanks for the idea of the decorations at La Laguna! I have still to think what I am going to do... We are going to have Japanese linterns (so funny this, in Spanish we call them Chinese linterns, haha) at Las Rocas Bar that we have hired directly to the resort. But the idea of the parasols is sth beautiful and I have seen it at a pic that Vanessa sent me from another wedding. But I do not want to bring them at the luggage... so many things we alredy have to bring with us that if I add sth else, Thomas will kill me, lol... By the way Lauren, I read what you wrote about the credit card paying all the balance at the resort. And I remembered we were asking us if it was possible to pay sth before our arrivals. Well, we were thinking that for us would be better to pay sth in advance and Vanessa told me there was no problem. So one month ago we payed the total of the wedding package. When we had made the booking we had to pay 300 usd and in June we payed 2100 usd for the rest of the cost of the Diamond package, the party at Las Rocas (150 usd) and the special lights at La Laguna (150 usd). We thought it would be better for us to pay in advance so as you said the credit card We will have to pay the appetizers, dinner and extras (per person and white covers for the chairs at La Laguna) at the resort. So our credit card is not going to crack there! Hahaha... For us is better as we are going to stay at Riviera Maya for 3 weeks, rent a car, etc Have a wonderful stay with your friends at Las Vegas!!
  3. I forgot! Sorry for so many posts today. Mikaela, congratulations!! You will see so wonderful is this forum. For joining the FB group, please follow the link that appears below this post. Lauren, I love the dresses for your braidsmaid!! I love the colour and the form!! Really really beautiful!!
  4. Liana, so many things you are doing! Good for you!! I have left small details and now I am searching them and these are not easy to find. Today I have received a phone from the jeweller's. When I graduated at the university my grandma gave me as a present a beautiful earrings of white golden and topaz. I did love them! But unfortunately I had lost one of them so 3 weeks ago I went to the jeweller's shop for obtaining the other earring. So I have gone today. I love them and I want you to show them as I am so happy that I can finally use them for my big day. Which are yours?
  5. Hello ladies, Thanks for your nices words once again about Thomas. He feels better today, but I think tomorrow will be better as he has started today with the new antibiotics. Thank godness, I was a little bit scared (i am not the ones that scared of this things, in my family we have suffered of "serious" illness) as he never takes pills so I did presume they were going to work before... Today he can talk a little bit (he has no voice from last Friday). Thanks also for your support and ideas about jobs in Canada. This is a country we are thinking about as the economy seems is very good. My former housemate in Ireland left the country to work to Canada. We will look onto Alberta! About the flowers... I love orchids! So for me my bouquet and MH's are beautiful. Heather, the bouquet of my friend has cost me 45 usd. Mine 114 usd but because it is only made of orchids (a type of very expensive for what I discovered later) and it is in waterfall. I know the protocol says all flowers has to be the same, but I prefer to make it different for my wedding and have variety and I have choosen orchids for bouquets, white roses and morning-glory for the columns of the gazebo and tropical flowers for the centerpieces of the reception (I would try to upload it here but I have it in a pdf document and do not know how to change it to a .jpg document And talking about the reception girls, are you going to decore with special things? I do not mean the tables but the area of La Laguna. I know the wedding packages includes the white clothing and we have also booked the special lights available at the Palladium, but I have started to think about this today.... ¡¡Un saludo a todas!! 26 days for leaving
  6. Wow! So many posts today!! Thanks to all of you for your nice thoughts. Doctor said yesterday that if he did not get better in 24 hours, he should return to the clinic again. We have gone this afternoon. Doctor has changed him the antibiotics to see the results. He should improve in the next 48 hours. But we will return again on Thursday. Claire, your dog is so lovely. I am a dog lover too!! Chrestena, so interesting you work for these two tv channels! Are you a journalist? I am a journalist but nowaydays unemployed. I presume you all know the situation is being hard here in Spain with the crisis. We are nowadays one of the worst countries in Europe about this, we have more than 25% of unemployed people. Although I have experience working in TV, newspapers, etc there is no way to find sth. Journalism is the 2nd sector with more unemployed people in this moment in the country (after the construction). The last two companies in which I worked as communication manager had to fire their workers and I had the bad luck to be between them (as is cheaper to fire the people that is in the company for less years). Nowadays I work as a freelance Spanish teacher but some months are not good at all as this month that I am having lots of time free. At least this has a good thing: I can be with Thomas in this moment and bring him to the doctor. We are planning to move to other country after the wedding. Thomas has a job here but he would like as well to move to other country. Here there are no possibilites to find a job nor to grow professionally. Chrestena, thanks so much for your tips about your wedding dress. Miriam, the Mexican girl at facebook group told me she did the same with her dress at the resort!! hahaha. she also had the ttd and she also did use the tub for removing the sand. She also told me that when she returned home she brang the gown to a dry's cleaner. I am going to make the same as I asked and it would cost me 50 usd. Lauren, I was going to tell you to do the same, but 250usd! I am shocked! This is too much! In that case, I would do as Chrestena did and then at your return, clean it again by yourself at home. Liana, it is not sure yet that my parents are going to pay the wine and champagne... I do not know... I am starting to be fed up of this story!haha Because now Thomas is saying that he does not want the house wine either.... ! Why we have to be Spanish and Italian? hahahah Wish I would know anything about wines! My dad loves good wines but he does not realize yet how much Mexicans charge for this there.. I am still waiting for an email from Yazmin de la Mora. I am impatient to know the costs, but I have decided that I am not going to stress anymore with this!!! I am alredy nervous for my upcoming wedding and have no space now in my head to worry about the wine!! hahaha Heather, yes, there are some alcohols and cocktails included (I have the whole list that Vanessa sent me, I will try to uploaded it tomorrow to the FB group) but we are going to have the lobster salad and the sirloin for the reception. Chrestena, I love your story about your dog!! Thomas has a dog in Italy with a similar story, he rescued him 10 years ago and he has a good life with Thomas' mom. Lauren, I am not sure if I have understood your bridesmaids thing about the spa... I am only having a maid of honor and she refused that I payed her the hairstyle for my wedding. I told her then that at least she has to let me to pay her for a beautiful bouquet with some orchids as well as mine and she finally accepted. She chose between some options that the flowershop sent me and I ordered one. This is what she chose. So I think anyway, it is not rude... I am sure they are going to understand you are having a lot of expenses! Now I am going to sleep, I am dying of sleep (is it correct said like this?) and last night I only slept 4 hours as Thomas was coughing all the night! Good night ladies!!
  7. Thanks for your nice words girls!! We'll see how goes thourgh this night, hope tomorrow he will get up better! Claire, if I was enchanted with your oot bags when these were not finished, now I have fallen in love!! If I was one of your bridesmaid I certainly would keep it and use it after the wedding!! They are soooo lovely and beautiful!! You are an incredible artist!! Thanks for telling me what you are going to do with the wine. Some minutes after writing the last post here, my parents phoned me to ask me about Thomas' health and my dad asked about the wine... He is more stressed with the wine/champagne than me, haha. He has told me he wants to pay for them. Ok, good for me! hahaha... will see the costs that the local planner will send me. Lhasa Apso! In my city there are a lot of them in the last year! Scooby (my dog) loves this breed of course when are female, lol. Scooby is not the breed of the famous cartoon Scooby Doo! He is a puddle, in 15 days he will be three years old. Here are my two loves! Good night everybody!!
  8. Sorry once again, to clarify you more. The ones at the list "Cava Cordon Negro Freixenet" at 35 usd (sorry I did wrong before, not 70 usd but 35$) and "Cava carta nevada" (this is also of Freixenet although it is not written) of 25 usd (in Spain this cost 3 usd each bottle) are "cavas" (sparkling wine) and not real champagne. The authentic champagne is only the ones that are produced at the French region named Champagne. Here at wikipedia you can read what is cava http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cava_(Spanish_wine) Really, I am not a picky one... but I cannot recommend you to spend 35 usd nor 25... I am going to wait to hear from Yazmin de la Mora hoping she has sth better to offer. She organizes wedding of politicians and famous Mexican artists and she told me nobody complain about alcohol from this provider. As you I do not want to spend a fortune in this!! If not, as minimum, I think we will pick up the champagne for the desserts and the wedding cake, but not at the resort, definetely not... hahaha
  9. Sorry! I have seen these two comments now. Chrestena thanks so much! I had such a terrible micraine that it was hard to smile, hahaha and one eye was less opened than the other. But I did not want to cancel the meeting to try on my gown again. Hi Liana, well if i told you how many research I have made with the wine and champagne thing, you could not believe me! hahha I have lost hours and hours taking a look at this. First of all as you comment you are going to an all inclusive resort so at least for the weddings I think they could offer a better wine than that. But what about the champagne? This is not included so what to do? Suming up (because I do not want you felt asleep, haha) I contacted several wine stores and supermarkets in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. They sent me their list prices and they were the same cost for the champagne than in Spain if you buy it at a supermarket and the wines were more expensive. OK I understand this as this are European alcohols and they have to bring to Mexico. All are available to bring the bottles to the resort. You give them to Vanessa and no extra cost for anything. But when we were trying to decided between some different wines we know from the different lists that we have, I did read some reviews at this website talking about other people that bought their bottles at supermarkets for their weddings and the wine tasted bad and different... So then I had a different idea!! I saw that at some threats sometimes a wedding organizer named Yazmin de la Mora based at Playa del Carmen, answer some doubts that brides have. So I decided to contact her. She told me that when she organizes the weddings she has a national provider that provides the wines and champagne for this weddings. She told me to write her the name of five different red and white wines as well as with the champagne. So I did and now I am waiting for her answering as she is from last week at Mexico DF. She told me that at her return to Riviera Maya she will contact her provider and write me to tell me the costs. I will let you know when she answers me. But although at the end you are going to use the wine house, what are you going to do with the champagne?? I think 130 usd for a Moet Chandon bottle is a robbery... How many could cost in your countries, girls? Because here (and Mexico is a cheaper country than Spain) you could spend 40 usd for one bottle. And the other ones that are at the list "Cordon negro" etc these are not champagne... This one thing I do not like of the resort, if you are Spanish you know the "trick" but those are sparkling wines very cheap produced in Cataluña (a region in the northeast coast of Spain) that definetely are not champagne and here one bottle of this costs 4 usd and the resort charges 70 usd or similar.... This is an aunthentic robbery and ruse...
  10. ***typo It seems to me like you cannot change the flower arragments and the wedding ceremony place (pergola, gazebo, church, etc) but you can add whatever you want like more centerpieces at the tables reception and more bouquets, etc but no sure about this... i meant "at" the wedding ceremony place
  11. Hi Bre, I have no the confirmation either but Jen that is about to get married maybe could clarify something as she finally decided to change her former wedding package to one of the Karen's one. I think Jen told something that she is bringing things with her... For other hand, some months ago Vanessa emailed me to explain me the new wedding packages and the possibility to change to one of them if I would like to do it. But she told me that for example the flower arragements that I had for the columns of the beach gazebo I could not use them.... so I do not really understand how the new packages are. It seems to me like you cannot change the flower arragments and the wedding ceremony place (pergola, gazebo, church, etc) but you can add whatever you want like more centerpieces at the tables reception and more bouquets, etc but no sure about this... Thanks for your comments Lauren, yes I think as well that is crazy how sometimes people can meet and connect! This is great!! And Facebook is a very good tool. It permits me to be in touch in an easier way with the friends that I met when I lived in Ireland, Italy and Madrid. Today has been a crazy day. Thomas is still sick.... We went to emergency two days ago as he was feeling really bad. And this did scare me more because he never gets sick. He was having very high temperature, cough, cold and hot at the same time. We were thinking he had a strong flu. But doctor at the hospital took a look at him and said he had a big infection of pus in one tonsil. The doctor said he did not understand the cough with the rest of the symptom and gave him antibiotic, paracetamol and a syrup. After 2 days without improving we have gone to the doctor's office today (the one that we alredy know, not the emergency one) and she changed the medicines for stronger ones. If he does not feel better tomorrow afternoon, we will return again. She said he has a big infection also at the throat and that the medicines the emergency doctor gave him on Saturday shoud have worked yet and make disappear the fever. He is very weak, all the time lied at bed or sofa and I even had to help him to walk today to enter at the clinic... Now we are sitted at the bed, he is next to me sleeping and I have to "force" him to eat sth because he is not hungry... This is the biggest symptom to me!! Doctor said at least to eat yogurts and ice cream. He sleeps the most of the time, probably because the meds are strong. Our dog is all the time next to him, it is incredible how dogs feel someone is ill and they do not go apart from you because they feel you are sick. ¡Saludos a todas!
  12. Hello Lucy, How are the things going with your mom? I was so stressed some weeks ago about her behaviour that after 3 weeks thinking I decided to talk once again directly to her. She was shocked and asked why she could not give her opinion over and over again. I explained her in all the possible ways how had been his behaviour since I got engaged. After more than one hour talking I realized once again she was not understanding anything and she did not understand me. So we did agree to "start" again. I beg her to do not stress me so much and she told me she was not going to do it anymore. I hope she really behaves like this.... It has gone 3 weeks now and she is behaving normally. In fact she had the idea of searching for some fake flowers for some DIY centerpieces I will use during our appetizers time... This surprises me... Hopefully she will continue like this... Anyway I do not want to take any risks... As I have forgotten how many times I tried to speak with her before and after some days that had not been a success. So I am crossing fingers everything continues like this. It only lefts 4 weeks to leave Spain (and 5 to the wedding) and still no talking with her about the wedding... Better in this way... Thanks to everybody for your opinions and advices. I did pick up ideas and "sentences" of all of your opinions and told to her!! You had been sooo helpful!!
  13. Hi Chrestena, Thanks for the tips! I have seen it just right now how to make a personal signature! thanks. Take a look at the spam folder in case it has finished there, if not follow the link to enter at the group. Thanks also for the ideas for the color of the ribbon. Unfortunately I will only have a made of honor, and not bridesmaids as any of my two sisters and friends want to dress the same. Here is not typical like in America, it was when my parents got married but not anymore. I tried to convince them but no way... But anyway I am happy with my maid of honor!! I am alredy have ordered her bouquet and her dress is about to come. Good Sunday to everybody!
  14. By the way, I am going to use a starfish as well for my rings. This is mine. I have now to find a ribbon but I am still having doubts about the colour of it, any ideas of which would suit better?
  15. Hello Chrestena!! So happy to hear from you again!! Thanks once again for more details about your wedding and more pics. They are so beautiful!! It is incredible that it is almost two months from your wedding! Time really flies! I cannot believe that I am leaving in 4 weeks and getting married in 5!! This last months have gone so fast! Thanks for cheering me up about the weather!! You are right, I have to stop worrying about this!! lol I live in my city that normally has a horrible weather and rains a lot! So if I travel more than 7000 km for finding rain, I will be fustrated!! lol. Crossing fingers, eggs to Santa Clara (I have recently discovered that the legend says that the bride could not offer it to this Saint but the friends) and I will bury knives at the resort! hahahaha About the gown... I have checked this with my TA and she phone the aircompany. I am able to bring my dress in a bag inside the plane. The gown will wrinkle but thank godness the people at the resort will iron it. So rude the hostess with you! I cannot understand she told you that when you were telling her that was your wedding dress! Some people is embittered.... Now I am sitted at the sofa with Thomas next to me. I am a "nurse" today and this evening. He is with flu and he also has tonsillitis... So we are watching a silly movie and I am taking advantage to upload more things at the FB group. I was trying to change my profile as you did. I mean after each time your write appears this "We're married And very happy!!"
  16. Sorry Liana, yes I do understand you know. Yes! I have tried the house wine and it is AWFUL and DISGUSTING!! When I was there in 2009 but I asked Vanessa for the house wine that there is now. She went to speak with the chef that is Spanish and we were talking about the "Denominación de origen". This means the exaclty place the wine comes from and it is from "Castilla La Mancha" a region in Spain that had terrible wines... I do not consider myself picky with the whole wine thing, really you can believe me with this. It is not that I drink wines of 100 usd but there are wines in Spain very good with other costs around 6-10 usd that in the wine list of the Palladium this costs 4-5 times more... The thing is that coming from Spain and Italy we have certainly as well as my guests a culture around the wine... So for this reason I am driving crazy myself with all this thing...
  17. Hi Liana, Sorry I think I have not understand you correctly. What are you going to serve for your guests during the private reception dinner?
  18. ¡Hola Lauren! Vanessa did not specified me so much about this thing. I imagine that depends on what the prediction says... But what I would not like is that for example we are moving to an indoor location because the prediction says is going to rain, and then it finally rains during 15 minutes one hour before or after the ceremony. I am starting to pray for having at least a day without any rain! I will beREALLY BUT REALLY SAD if we have to change the beautiful beach for an indoor site... I am getting married there because we want to do it at the beach and with the sea.... Lauren, do you mind to ask her about this? If we would be forced to change location? Let's see what she told you about this and maybe we could arrive to any conclusion... For another hand, maybe your workmate changed location because there was a bad weather prediction like storm or hurricane? Do you know if finally did it rain during all this ceremony and reception? One more thing girls, I would like to know from all of you what are going to do with the wine and champagne for the reception? Are you going to have the "house wine" (the one is included at the reception/appetizers) or are you going to pay extra money for better red and white wine and/or champagne? For example there are Spanish wines that here costs 10 usd and at the Palladium have a cost of 50 usd. It happens the same with the champagne (the French not the Spanish sparkling "cava". The resort called the Spanish one as champagne, but champagne is from the region called like this in France... ). For example a bottle of Moet & Chandon in Spain costs 40 usd and at the resort has a cost of 125 usd!! I am in contact with several vendors about this thing, but I am really insecure about what to do.... Please, I will thank all the opinions about this!! Thanks brides and have a good weekend!! ¡Gracias novias y que tengáis un buen fin de semana!
  19. Hello!! In the last few weeks I made a lot of things that I had to. We bought our vase for the ceremony sand, I did DIY tag luggages and bought the oot bags. I have prepared the explanation texts for the oot bags, as my women guest I am sure they do not know what is that bag... My Fi has written the ceremony text. He is Italian so we have decided instead of having music or sth during the ceremony sand, his aunt is going to read it. He wrote the text (in Italian). I have found my sandals and last Saturday I went to the wedding store where I bought my gown to the second try on of the dress. I am so happy each time I try it on, is so fresh!! We have decided the flavour of the cake and we have received more presents for the wedding list as well as money. I have payed a balance of 50% of one of my vendors (the flowershop at Playa del Carmen) and I have find some cheap centerpieces for DIY for the small tables that the resort puts for our appetizers before our private reception dinner. And my dad has finished to draw the tree guestbook, now I have to buy the ink pads. I love his drawing so I asked him for doing it so I will have it as well as a remember of him. And I have alredy to make other DIY projects!!! I am leaving in 4 weeks and the wedding is in 5!
