  1. Hola chicas! Laurent thanks for the info about the really slow at the wedding you were. I presume that being at one of the restaurants of the resort the service is slower. I mean, they have more tables. But at La Laguna or El Gran Azul the dinners are private. For example I asked to Vanessa about the number of waiters some months ago and she told me that there will be 3 waiters being 20 people at my wedding. I also was checking this Saturday wih Vanessa about the hours. We have finally booked at Lad Rocas for the dances and cocktails from 10 pm to 12 pm. As my dinner started at 7pm I told to Vanessa that my fiance (that in the past during some years worked as a chef) calculates 20 minutes between each plate so we would end around 9.30 pm so later they would carry us with the carts to Las Rocas to start at 9.45 - 10 pm. She did agree on everything. So I hope is in this way. by the way do not be strange about startig at 7pm and finishing to 9.30 pm. We have made changes in our menu and cancelled one plate. Yesterday I received a mail from Vanessa asking me doubts about one question I made to herf the texture of one of the plates. She wrote me with another menu... Two months ago I started to put down all the details of my wedding in a Word document (hours, places, info about the vendors, extras booked, etc). So after yesterday mail I have sent it to her. I have thought to give it to her on our meeting. But just in case (communication with the chef, waiters, DJ, etc) I prefered to send it to her yesterday. Anyway, I will give it to her personally at my arrival. So I advice you all to do sth like this... just in case! (Also Karenk wrote sth about that they served different things of her menu...) Heather my wedding is at 4 pm. The hotel has two weddings at the same time. One at 2 pm and other at 4pm so maybe your day has another bride that is marrying at 4 pm. Good night!
  2. You are welcome Kathy!! I think this is a great website and forum to help us each others with things like this. For telling you all a personal story: Last November I was in a wedding where the couple did not give many importance to the photographer. I remembered few months before the wedding I talked to the groom to the importance to have a good professional that day. One month after the wedding he came to me blame himself of not payed me attention before.... He showed me his photos and were a disaster!! He was soooo sad... I tried to cheer him up but that photos are the one that he has to look at as a remeber of his wedding...
  3. Hello brides, Kathy, I have read some reviews at this website and at Tripadvisor about the photographers at GP and all were negative... I have seen the style of them and I have to confess is not what I look in a professional photographer. Do not misunderstand me, I do not want to critize their job but I understand a lot about photography and this is why I decided to look in another part. Mine is Freddy Ku from Claudia Photo Studio. She is very famous at this website as you could see in photographer reviews, and I think is completely true. All the photographer working in her studio as well as herself are great. For my wedding I do not look for someone to just press the botton of a camera, I look for moments, story, emotions, etc reflected in the photos. This was for me the thing in which I spent lots of hours searching for a good one, sending emails, comparing their styles, costs, etc... so in my opinion depends only on how important is for you this part of the wedding. About the fee, I advise you to ask directly to your wedding coordinator. I have booked last year so we do not have to pay any particular fee for outside vendors. Only the day or night pass if they stay more that 4 hours (at least for what Vanessa told me some months ago). Lauren, I completely forgot to ask you a doubt that I have from some posts of you ago. You said that you were in a GP wedding and the service at the dinner was really slow. Could you explain me more? Do you mean the waiters were slow? or that the kitchen took a lot of time between each plate? Now I have to say bye, Thomas and I are going for trying on some suits for the wedding. ¡Un saludo!
  4. ¡¡Buenas tardes chicas!! (Good afternoon girls!) Welcome to the new brides, as Lauren has said I have not idea on how things are now at Grand Palladium with the new wedding packages. The only sure thing that I know (because Vanessa told me) is that with the flowers is not possible to change colors or add arragments with outside vendors. But the wedding coordinators are great and always answered all doubts. Lauren, a couple of months ago Vanessa told me that the extra hour (from 11pm to 12pm) at La Laguna has a cost of 5usd for person. About the music, I do not know if it is possible to have a DJ at Las Rocas Bar. But there is the option included on the wedding package that is the cable for ipod, loudspeakers and microphone. Lauren, about the distance, Vanessa explained me that from La Laguna to Las Rocas it takes around 15 minutes to move all the guests with the carts. We are still thinking if have a Dj or not. I have to ask to Vanessa it would be possible to have one at Las Rocas Bar. Chrestena, I think you have asked sth about DJ's some posts ago... Have you tried to contact the Dj from the resort? Vanessa gave me the email. He has just emailed me today with the costs and for two hours they have a cost of 6000 pesos (MXN). This is their website: www.dbmusic.com.mx And mail: [email protected] He (Eduardo) has also sent me a youtube video of them at Palladium: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cpnzf2dldF0&list=UUt6-c6Ls12zYjb4wY1Dn6Rg&index=5 Un saludo chicas!
  5. Sorry, when i have written this About the beach party, Karenk you had a good idea! I wanted to say Claire!!
  6. Hello brides! Karenk thank you so much for sharing with us your experience. It helps a lot to know things in which other way maybe i would not have thought on them until that moment. I am also getting married at the beach gazebo and you look beautiful there!!! I have also booked a natural flower as I think it is more "caribbean style" and I think is beautiful. Girls I think you all should take it, lol, i think is perfect for our hairs that day!! Chrestena, in case you finally want to book at the Spa. My wedding is at 4pm and the girl from Zentropia Spa told me to be there at 12.00 so they can have enough time for the make up and hair style. I hope there are not 3 weddings when i am there!! lol Because there are many of my guests that are going to be there as well between 12 and 1 pm! And from some photos that a Mexican bride sent me by mail it seemed a small place... Chrestena, thanks for the websites!! I am going to take a look this evening. About the beach party, Karenk you had a good idea! Having the final party at Las Rocas Bar I think is great. Chrestena, for suming up the story. I wanted to have the one that they have now with the new wedding packages but Vanessa told me that I had to change my wedding package, and the new ones do not please specially. So I asked her for another possibilites. Vanessa told me that is possible to have a cocktail at Las Rocas Bar after our dinner. This has a 2 hour duration (the max is to finish at 12pm as it is not allowed by the hotel to continue until later... (such a pity for Spanish people as we are used to dance in the wedding until 4 or 5 am!). But there is the disco in La Riviera side that is open until 2am. The cost for 20 people is 125 usd and the chinese lamps you see in the pics (I hope you all can see them now, sorry the size but Vanessa sent them to me very small, she "copy and paste" instead of attaching them but for having an idea I think this are good) has a cost of 5usd each one. There is one waiter serving the cocktails and it is included the cable for Ipod (is it said cable in English? I am not sure), loudspeaker and microphone. When I saw the photos Vanessa sent me I felt in love. I love Las Rocas area and I wanted from the start but there was a misunderstunding between Vanessa and me. So now luckily we could have the dances there. I think our guests are going to love it as well. The other lights you see at the photos are free. Lauren, thanks a lot for all the explanation about the OOT bags!! It is a nice touch for the girls/woman indeed!! I am going to take a look on how to make the bags and where! Girls, do you know if it is possible to have any flavour you want for the wedding cake? We are thinking in having tiramisu but I am not sure if it is possible the chef cooks the flavour you want. ¡Buenas noches a todas! Good night to everyone!

  11. Hello Lauren! Thanks so much for the explanation about the OOT bags! It really is a nice touch for them. Are you giving to them some days before leaving the States or at their arrival to the resort? Maybride2013!! I wish you the best of luck and I am sure you are going to have the best day of your life!! I am really sure that weddings at GP are wonderful!! We wait your review at your return. Meanwhile, enjoy your days and the beautiful Riviera Maya!! Claire, your idea is great. Before reading your post I had written to Vanessa asking her which other possibility we could have to make something on the beach in our wedding day. She answered me explaining me that after our dinner at La Laguna, we could make a party with cocktails at Las Rocas Bar. The sand is the floor. I think is a great idea!! We could dance there while a waiter serves cocktails... I really love the idea and I love Las Rocas area. Here are the pics that Vanessa sent me in her mail. Some are a little bit dark but to have an idea are good. ¡Qué tengáis una buena semana! (Have a nice week!)

  13. I am from Spain so we do not tip anybody in general. But I know that in Mexico is typical. When I was there on vacation in 2009, we finally tipped a lot as in our resort (Grand Palladium) we receive a wonderful tratement. My WC is awesome. She is sooo nice and she is always giving me good ideas when I asked her to the possibility to do different things (to serve the appetizers for example). So we do not still know how much we are going to tip her but I think between 100-150 usd. I calculate the normal salary of a Mexican person working in the Riviera Maya (that normally is between 60 and 100 usd per week).

  15. Me too!! I am on a diet now! I want to loose some pounds!!
  16. ¡Hola chicas! ¿Cómo estáis? Today I have received a mail from Vanessa. Suming up for those who not remember, last week I asked Vanessa for the possibility to make the party at the beach after our dinner. She has answered me that for that I would have to choose a new wedding package (the ones of Karen Bussen). Last year I booked my wedding at Grand Palladium and there were 3 types of packages: the catholic one (for marrying at the small church on the resort), the Crystal one (you can still take a look at it on the website) and the Diamond. My fiance and I chose the Diamond as it seemed for us the most complete. It is like the Crystal but includes more flower arragements and other details for the bride and groom (as strawberrys in the room that night, the ironing of my dress and suits, etc). Another thing that we liked a lot of the Palladium weddings was the possibility to bring your own vendors from outside. So besides the photographer, cameraman, etc we also decided to contract to a flower shop in Playa del Carmen for more flower arragements on the beach marble gazebo, centerpieces, etc... Well, I toke a look to the new wedding packages just because we were interested in taking the beach party, and I wrote to Vanessa asking here more information as I had several doubts. She answered me that if you choose the new ones, it is not possible to change the colours or add any flowers. Vanessa was very clear in her email: you could not add the arragements you want with this packages. So, I am a little sad about this because we thought that the beach party must be a very entertaining thing, but we prefer to have our flowers arragements that we really want. And Vanessa has also explained me that the costs of the packages does not include the type of ceremony as the "older" ones. If you take a look at the website is said that the vow renewal has a cost of 300 usd, the legal wedding is 650 usd and the catholic one is 500 usd. So you have to add this cost to the price of each package. I hope I had been clear (my English is so-so, lol). About the wristsbands, I have not asked this to Vanessa yet but one Mexican bride that I met thourgh Tripadvisor told me that they kept them on the security box of the rooms and the next morning, everybody went directly to one of the receptions with the old one to obtain a new wristsbands. I have a question girls, for what it is OOT bags? What does it mean "OOT". I discovered from your photo, MyTye, that is sth for the bridesmaid and/or maid of honor. Right? In Spain we do not have bridesmaids or maid of honor in the weddings. I wanted to have them as I am marrying in America and I have discovered that this is not only typical on the States (as we saw here on the movies, lol) but from Canada to Chile... So one of my best friends that is coming to the wedding, is going to be the maid of honor as the other girls dont want to dress the same... But I am happy to have my friend as maid of honor! I am enjoying a lot with her thinking in original ideas, organizing things, etc what an experience! ¡¡¡Un saludo chicas!! And yes!! We are going to stay at Grand Palladium until August 19th. So of course if you want to meet us, it would be great!!
  17. Chrstena!! I almost forgot, sorry!! I love your shoes! I am also looking for sandals like yours with sparkly details and "open" just like this. Really beautiful!!
