Any Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Brides out there?
MrsViolo replied to kerrij's topic in Destination Weddings in Jamaica
We're getting married in Jan 2014. Booked our trip by December 2012. Most people coming booked by March 2013. People that are booking now are having to pay $400 more per person. The price may still go down but our flight is almost sold out so its unlikely. I'm glad we booked early. With Marlin Travel we booked a Transat Package with a price drop gauarentee so even if the price drops we get the lowest price. I'm glad we booked early. People who are just booking now are kicking themselves for not. January is a busy travel time of year however so the deals at that time aren't that great. Don't be so anxious to book. I would definitely wait. we're in Ontario and in 2011 our quote was $1250 and everyone had to book by July 8th for a November wedding with Air Transat. Our original date was Nov 17th but our plans all fell apart and we went just the two of us and got married in October instead. We used Marlin Travel in Brookfield Place in downtown Toronto. The rates will definitely come down. I wouldn't worry until at least January of next year for a 2014 wedding, even maybe March, then start asking around to different sellers. You're in BC so I guarantee it will be more expensive. My brother lives in Langley and his quote originally to be at our wedding was $1750 per person. We actually offered to bring him to Ontario on our aeroplan points so that he could have the cheaper rate with everyone else. I find everyone is so anxious to get their rate and they book right away but then the fares drop and they're stuck. Some companies if you book really early will allow you one change if the fare drops a lot to let you rebook at the cheaper fare but not all. Watch the rates this year and see what they are then start telling people it's an approximate price if they need to start saving money ahead of time. If your group is big enough you'll also probably get every 12th or 15th person free and what you could do is spread that money evenly between guests or give the freebie to someone that really can't afford it. or even the bride or groom to save a little money and maybe give yourselves a few little "extras" in Jamaica. Good luck! I've said it before and I'll say it again. It will all turn out just perfect in the end. After the disaster that we went through putting our wedding together, nobody knows that better than me!!! -

This site is a huge help! Welcome! But it's making me do way more planning than i expected! lol. My original plan for a destination wedding was to just book a resort, invite people and show up! Now all of a sudden i'm thinking photographers, make-up, decorations, gift bags, etc.! All of which i'm sure I wouldn't have been worried about if I didn't find this site! I love it tough and really appreciate everyone's input! -

I suggested that to a photographer and he said that wouldn't work since all the photographers are pretty well known by the resorts. Not to mention the fancy camera they have. I even mentioned that my family is Jamaican so it wouldn't be surprising to have Jamaicans that live in Jamaica at our wedding. No such luck! I've decided to go with Chris Lee for our wedding them I'm meeting with a local photographer the day after our wedding to do a TTD shoot in locations away from the resort. -

When i asked Chandlyn she said she didn't know since she didn't know what the vendor fees etc. would be like for 2014 yet. I booked her thinking worse case scenario I'd have to pay the day pass. Rashel has said they don't charge the brides anything but she obviously has no control over that... -

I was quoted the same. She's actually cheaper than the resort minus the travel costs. I'm having enough people getting hair and make-up done that it actually worked out that she was cheaper. I'll be booking the resort to do my hair and make-up for my trash the dress shoot the following day since it will just be me, the resort will be cheaper that day. -

has anyone used the steel drum band for their wedding. We would like them to play as I'm walking down the aisle and right after the ceremony we'll have our first dance song with them playing. I asked the wedding planner about songs they can play and she told me they can play any song and that she would pass on a list of songs i send her to the band... ummm that doesn't seem right... a steel drum band actually able to play ANY song? -

The resort Videorapher's work makes me want to vomit! (Um.. no offence if you're the bride in thier sample video ) For Video Service the cost will be $440 with tax included (Ceremony and Session) Sample of Our Video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzafRB30e-0 Elite Media concepts seem fantastic. They turn your wedding into a mini movie. Expensive of course! Plus the 800 vendor fee. (BLAH). I'm hoping to get this for a wedding present from our parents! "We specialize in short-form wedding films which means we really focus on making you an amazing "movie-like" production that you'll actually want to watch for years after your wedding day. It's important to note that we aren't a traditional videography service. We don't give you a long, boring 2-3 hour wedding video. Instead we use real cinema tools in our filming and real story-telling techniques in our editing to make your film unique to your wedding. I really would love for you to see what a final product looks like so here are some links to my recent feature films: http://elitemediaconcepts.com/blog/farah-thomas-fly-like-an-eagle-rose-hall-great-house/ Thanks so much for your interest in our services. I am available for your Wedding on Wednesday, January 15, 2014. Here is a link to our packages: http://app.shootq.com/public/~2ccec2/pricing/80c7f7c2-529e-11e2-a593-aa0000f29611 You can build your own package here and when you're done, it will send us all the info so we can provide an accurate quote for you based on the items you want." -

I emailed the studio to ask the same thing and they said they couldn't provide photos by each individual photographer. They said there are three photographers and Chris Lee is the primary one. I'm now following him and the studio on facebook. I also started a forum in the hopes people would provide reviews and pictures of the photographer they used but no one has responded yet... http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/85524/photographers-at-the-grand-bahia-principe-in-runaway-bay -

Hi ladies I just started a new thread specifically for reviews of photographers at the resort. I've been in touch with the coordinator of Arrecife studio (the resort photographers) and he said, although he can't show me individuals photographers profile's I can request a certain one to shoot my wedding. Hoping to get some reviews on who does a good job and who doesn't since there seems to be a variety. For those who have already gotten married there and used their photographer, can you click on the link and provide a quick review? Thanks! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/85524/photographers-at-the-grand-bahia-principe-in-runaway-bay -
Hi everyone, I've heard really mixed reviews about the photographers the resort uses. You do have the option of requesting a specific photographer that works for the resort. According to the coordinator of Arrecife studio (the resort photographers) there are three. I was wondering if previous brides who have used the photographers at the resort can post a couple pictures and/or provide a quick review and name of photographer they used (were assigned) for their wedding. So far, I've heard good things about Christopher Lee and am now following him of facebook to get a better idea of his style. Thanks for your time! Your help is greatly appreciated!
