  1. May 17, 2013 at Ocean Coral & Turquesa in Puerto Morelos, Mexico (Mexican Riviera Maya area). Can't wait! Amanda [email protected]
  2. IchibanCowgirl, Thanks for the review and info on OCT. It is very helpful, as my May 2013 wedding is approaching. I am trying to gather any and all info on OCT that I can find. If I have any questions, I will PM you if you don't mind. Sounds like you had a wonderful wedding experience in every aspect despite the weather. Thanks again! Amanda [email protected]
  3. Hi, Cupcake! Hope you mind my sending you a PM just in case you do not read the forum posts daily. Thanks for responding to my post regarding having a donkey at the reception. My fiance wants to have one really badly, and I must confess that I would like to have one, also. Just for a short while -- maybe 45 to 60 minutes. I am thinking about the great photo opportunites and lasting memories that it will provide not only for us, but for our guests as well. I found Planner 1 Events on a website, turns out they are located very close to OCT. They do provide donkeys, so one can always be rented from them. I do not know how much it would cost. There may be other places that can provide a donkey, too, but I currently am not aware of any other vendor that does. The big question is: Are donkeys permitted at wedding receptions at OCT? I wonder if any bride there has had one at her reception? Unfortunately, both Angelica and Ana are not the most easy people to get ahold of, and they rarely answer emails. And when they do, it's months later and they have only answered half of the questions asked. Do you mind if we keep in touch regarding this donkey-rental business? If I find out something, I will email you, and vice versa? Maybe I will send an email right now to Planner 1 Events and ask them if OCT permits donkeys, and if so, how much does it cost? I will get back to you. A while back I did see a post from a bride who had a donkey, and I thought the wedding was at OCT, but perhaps I am mistaken. I have searched for hours in an attempt to locate that particular post, but for the life of me, I cannot find it. Wish I had written the bride's name down, or post number, or post thread, or something... Amanda [email protected]
  4. Thanks for the info, ajhutch. I am going to email DJ Bob right now. I definitely have ruled out the resort DJ after reading several neagative comments about him, in addition to my own gut feeling when he responded to my email. Amanda [email protected]
  5. To : Future MrsMt and ajhutch: Here is the new 2013 Price List for OCT. I hope you can open it. If not, send me an email and I will email it to you. Amanda [email protected] Wedding packages OCT ingles 2013 .pdf
  6. Dear FutureMrsMT: I was wondering the same thing. My wedding is in May 2013, but I put down a deposit around June of 2012. If you paid a deposit in 2012, does that mean the 2012 prices are "locked in" for your wedding, even if your wedding is in 2013? I never received (or have seen) a new price list for 2013. It should be out by now, my goodness, it is late January already. Has anyone seen a new 2013 price list? Amanda [email protected]
  7. Hello Cupcake, I saw your post concerning the rental of a donkey, and thought I would write to you. I would like to have a donkey appear at my Mexican Fiesta-Themed Wedding, also. Did you/are you using a donkey, too? Does Ocean Coal & Turquesa allow them? I was told no, but my fiance really has his heart set on it, especially since our theme is a typical Mexican fiesta. Thanks for any info~ Amanda [email protected]
  8. Hi everbody who has gotten married or will get married at Ocean Coral & Turquesa! Has any one had a donkey at their wedding at OCT, or are planning on having a donkey? If so, when was your wedding, or when are you getting married? I am wondering if OCT permits a donkey to be rented? I am having a Mexican-Fiesta Theme for my wedding and a donkey would work very well along with a Mariachi band. I know that I can hire the Mariachi band through the resort, and I plan to do that. But who do I contact for a donkey to appear for a short while, maybe 45 to 60 minutes? I know Planner 1 Events is the vendor that OCT deals with, and Planner 1 has donkeys for rental. I am wondering if anyone has actually rented one for their wedding, and how did it go? Thanks for any info you may have~ Amanda [email protected]
  9. Hi Josie Fiorda, I am thinking about getting a wedding planner to help me deal with OCT. My wedding is in May 2013, and I am having an extremely difficult time communicating with both Angelica and Ana. These ladies take forever to answer an emial (if they even bother), and when they do, they onoy address half of the questions. Do you mind my asking how much it cost you to hire Sun Lovers destination wedding planners? It may be worth the cost if it reduces a lot of the stress! Thanks for any advice or info you may have! Amanda [email protected]
  10. I hate to burst your bubble, emily a, but I have found that communication with the wedding coordinators at OCT to be practically non-existant once you sign a contract with them. Sure, they will send you all the information you need when you tell them you are interested in using OCT. But once you sign the contract and put down a deposit, it's like pulling teeth to get their attention. Calling the hotel doesn't even work (I tried that 4 times). The coordinators are extremely slow to answer, and when they do, they only answer part of your question, or give you some answer that does not make any sense. The language barrier presents quite a porblem. I am running into a lot of problems in trying to communicate with OCT, and the wedding is only a few months away. I don't know what the communication is like at other resorts, but if I had to do it over again, I would NOT pick OCT to be my wedding vendor. Given that, here is the address for Agelica Vargas, our wedding coordinator, who leaves a lot to be desired. Emailing Ana Bautista doesn't help, either: [email protected] Repeat: I would consider another resort before you fall into their trap! Amanda [email protected]
  11. leahbecker, The following is only my personal experience and opinion regarding Nicolas Cano, past brides may have had a very positive experience with DJ Cano and highly recommend him. If so, I would like to hear from them as to how Nicolas performed as a DJ. I have read many threads, and really can't find any information on Nicolas Cano. I am getting married at OCT in May2013. I contacted the Nicolas Cano, and the price he quoted me was $600 for three hours, not the $550 as stated in the pricelist from OCT. Wrote to Angelica and Ana (WC) to complain/resolve the discrpancy, but have heard nothing yet. I did not get a "warm, fuzzy" feeling from his email response, he did not seem enthusiastic at all, like this is nothing more than a routine "job" to him. I don't know if he has the animated personality needed to interact with guests. In addition, he said he uses a "DJ booth," which surprised me. I am afraid that he may just "hide" in there, not interact with guests very much. Does anyone have anysuggestions for a DJ with an outgoing personality who gets involved with your guests, attempts to liven up the party and entertain the guests??? acd8809 [email protected]
  12. Sorry, I should have initially stated the full name of the resort at the beginning of the post. OCT stands for the Ocean Coral and Turquesa Resort located in Puerto Morelos, Mexico. I thought I was on a thread dedicated specifically to OCT brides, but I guess not... I get turned around in all of these different BDW forum threads, lol. Sometimes one post leads to another, and another, and another, and pretty soon and I don't know where in the world I am forum-wise! But I am definitely learning a lot of information from all the posts! In an earlier post, someone said the supervisor's address at OCT (personal name of supervisor unknown) is: [email protected]. I only sent the email a couple days ago, and have not yet received a response. Besides, I think that may be the address of Ana Bautista (I am not certain of her email address), but I have already contacted Ana using the following address: [email protected]. I thought Ana was considered a "wedding coordinator," just like the other person that I have been primarily dealing with (Angelica Vargas) at the email address [email protected]. I know there are other wedding coordinators at OCT, too. I have only had very limited contact with Ana and Angelica so far. I called the resort directly this morning, and all I could get was the following email address: [email protected], which doesn't sound right to me, but who knows? Dealing with the communication barrier is a significant problem at OCT, as it is with many other resorts. I could barely understand what the woman was saying, and have no idea if she understood exactly what I was asking, either. Anyway, this morning I sent an email to [email protected], explained the situation, and asked if whomever received the email would forward it to the proper person. Computers are great, but one problem is that people can become "invisible" and remain conveniently unavailable for any personal or extensive interaction. I am certain that someone out there has the information I seek, but I don't know when/if I will ever get it. I can't be the only person dealing with OCT Resort who has asked to be connected to someone in a supervisory capacity. But thank you, Lynda from MTM, for your willingess to offer assistance in some way. I notice that MTM is an extremely active participant on the BDW forums, and your photography work is just beautiful! I have seen a lot of your work on BDW. How nice of MTM to personally reach out to all brides-to-be on any and all topics, even though they may not utilize your agency for their photograpy needs -- it speaks volumes about how much you care about EVERYONE on a personal as well as a professional level... I can just imagine how wonderful it must be for a bride to have MTM as her photographer. Speaking of which, I still need a photographer, I just haven't gotten that far along yet in the planning process. Locating a photographer is my next step, which I must do soon, so send me some information on your packages, although I must warn you that I am on a very limited budget. I am looking for an affordable, basic photography package. No money for a TTD shoot or videographer, unfortunately. Are you available on Friday, May 17, 2013? My name is Amanda, email [email protected]. Thanks again for any help, Lynda at MTM! acd8809
  13. Just an update from acd8809 to leahbecker: I sent an email to the DJ, and in his response, he quoted me $600 for three hours instead of the $550 stated in the price list from OCT. I don't understand why? I know of a bride who is using him in May of 2013, which is when I am getting married, so it cannot be due to a price increase on his part. Besides, the price is set by the resort, right? Also, we already put down a deposit for a May 2013 wedding several months ago. Anyone else running into any discrepancies between the price list from OCT and a resort vendor? Thanks, Amanda acd8809 [email protected]
  14. I am getting married at OCT in May of 2013. I decided to start a new thread because I have searched various OCT threads in addition to the Internet, and could not find the following information: the name, email address or phone number of the Main Manager/authority figure of the Wedding Department at OTC. I do not mean the wedding coordinators such as Angelica Vargas or Ana Bautista; I have already contacted them. A situation has come up that I would like to bring to the attention of their supervisor (don't worry; it is nothing negative about Angelica or Ana, it concerns the resort's DJ). I just feel that I need to discuss a situation with someone who is in a higher position of authority than the coordinators who deal with daily, routine matters. Has anyone had to go this route, or know who to contact? I appreciate any info that anyone can provide; this info is actually beneficial to any BDW bride-to-be who is encountering certain difficulties which the regular coordinators may not be able to address. Thanks! I can be reached at [email protected]
  15. Hi Josie, Thanks for the info. It is always so reassuring to hear from someone who has already "been there, done that!" I am looking for a reasonably priced DJ and photographer. Did you use the DJ and Photographer from OCT? If so, how good were they? If not, who did you end up using? I know it is expensive to bring in an outside vendor, and I would like to keep costs down if possible. Thanks for any info! I will probably have many more questions for you in the future if you don't mind sharing your experiences at OCT. Most brides do not post AFTER their wedding. You would be a great resource, and your opinions greatly valued! Amanda [email protected]
  16. Hi leahbecker: I was wondering the same thing. I would like to use OCT's DJ and photographer to keep costs down, but don't know whether they are any good or not. Anyone have an opinion, or used them before? I can't seem to find any reviews or info on them, especially the photographer -- he seems to be a ghost, lol. Thanks to anyone who can provide information! Amanda [email protected]
  17. Hello, leahbecker: I was wondering the exact same thing, since I must hire a DJ as well as a photographer. I know OCT has their won, and charge a hefty fee if you bring in someone else, so I would like to keep costs down by using the vendors from OCT. Have any brides used them for their weddings? Has anyone heard anything positive or negative about OCT's DJ and photographer? I would like to keep costs down, but I don't want someone who is lousy. If i know that ahead of time, I will gladly spend the extra money for an outside DJ and photographer. Thanks for any help ~ Amanda [email protected]
  18. Hi Cupcake- I think you are getting married at OCT, correct? If so, here is a copy of their menu choices: Hope this helps you if you are getting married at OCT [email protected]
  19. I was researching this topic a short while ago and taking notes because I was interested in taking sparklers and matchboxes to Mexico, too. I do not remember all the websites I perused, but somewhere along the line I came to the conclusion that the answer would be "NO." Here is what I have written down in my research notes: The following flammable items are NOT permitted to be packed in your checked baggage: Matches, torches, lighter fluid, fireworks, sparklers, and spray paint. Gel-type candles are okay to pack in checked bags only. I don't know if you are allowed to pack matchboxes in your carry-on luggage???? Also, anything that says "Made in China" is NOT allowed into Mexico due to the Mexican embargo against China. That is going to present a problem, since most items seem to be maufactured in China nowadays! If you or anyone finds out differently, please let me know... Perhaps I have misinterpreted some of the prohibited items, but I would rather err on the side of caution. [email protected]
  20. Hi, Kimdansky: I am getting married at the OCT in May, and I am in the same situation as you are -- I haven't received very much information from the resort about weddings there. Angelica is our WC. My emails go unanswered, and when they are answered, it is in very stilted English, she doesn't provide the info I requested, and I really don't understand what Angelica is saying (she probably doesn't understand my questions, either!) That makes me nervous, I never thought the communication barrier would be that bad at a resort of this type. I would love to see their literature/brochures, etc for everything wedding-related so that we can begin to finalize plans. I hate waiting until the last minute. You are even closer to your wedding date without much contact from the resort (scary!). If anyone does have the forms, I would love to see them, would you please post somehow so that i could open them? I know that QueenBennet, in post # 1722 posted 3 forms for you to look at. That was very nice of her to do -- were you able to open the 3 attachments? I tried to open them, but was denied access since I did not pay the $30 fee to become a bonafide member of BDW, or contributed at least 50 posts to this forum. I can't afford to pay a $30 fee, I am saving every dime for the wedding. Since I am relatively new to BDW, I haven't made at least 50 posts yet, and will probably never reach that goal. Like you, I would like as much written info on the weddings at OCT also, and hope that somewhere in this thread or other threads, I can scrape up the info that I am seeking, since it obviously is not going to be provided by OCT. I am stunned that you are so close to your wedding date, and they really haven't contacted you yet!!! This forum has been a terrfic help with all the tips and other info I have collected on OCT so far. But I still need more info, too. Lets hope that someone posts that information in a format that even non-paying members (or newer members with under 50-posts) can open. If/when I get anything from OCT, I shall forward it to you, and hope you will do likewise. My email address is [email protected]. Good luck to you and all the OCT brides out there! I feel like I am just drifting around alone out here... [email protected]
  21. Truly impressive bags, such attention to detail, and so much work on your end, but I know you enjoyed every minute of it. Your guests are so lucky and and will find these OOT bags useful in so many ways. Good luck to you! Wish I could have you do my OOT bags for me, lol.
  22. Dear Tropical Bride10, Lots of lovely centerpiece ideas here -- you are very creative! I am also obsessed with using lanterns in my centerpieces at OCT in May 2013. love, love, love lanterns and have been combing the Internet for the metal scrollwork lanterns in your last photo with limited success. Where did you find these lovely treasures? The shiny silver lanterns in the first photo would work, too. My email is [email protected]. Any info you may be able to provide is much appreciated! Thanks!
