Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to try and email them. I emailed Sara for prices, and they were relatively good. But she's on her honeymoon right now in Argentina, so she can't send me pictures. I'll have to try MVP.

I'm also looking for a make-up artist, but I wanted to see some pictures of Chinese/Asian brides. I'm Chinese and I know I normally need different style for the make-up to look good, but I haven't been able to find any. Any past brides' suggestions?

I didn't bother waiting for the confirmation from the WC on the poolside reception. I'm going to trust that they will find a way to accommodate, especially when we have to pay extra for it. I sent my deposit to DJ Bob, cause he said there was someone else requesting for same day. I didn't want to take the chance. You ladies think it's a gutsy move without the resort confirming the poolside reception?

Yeah, my FI is not big on posing for pictures. I wanted to pose with parasols as well, and he says its too "feminine". I told him wedding is the only time I can make him pose cheesy and people wouldn't judge cause it's for your wedding.. so he MIGHT be nice enough to go along with it.

I was just wondering if there are past bride or future brides have suggestions for hair and make-up artist in the area. I've heard good reviews for a couple artists, but none if their portfolios showed Asian brides, and I know that we have different facial features that require different style. I'd love to see pictures if you have any. Thanks!

My FI is 10 years older than me. I'm 25 and he's 35, but he doesn't look 35 AT ALL.

Thanks! I'm going to contact my travel agent again tonight, and hopefully get something from her. She hasn't introduced me to the WC yet, which she told me she would do about 2 weeks ago. So I'm going to try and push her a little more so I can email Paloma or Jazmin myself. I feel like I'll be a happier bride-to-be once I have the dinner and reception confirmed. Everything else becomes so much easier, I feel.

Trisha, do you remember how many months prior to the wedding did the WC confirm for you that you can have the poolside reception and its location?

Oh, that is such good advice. I'm going to have to remember that when I search for the hair and make-up artist. Do you know if Fernando is the only one working for Make-Up Pro or does he have other people who he sends?

Trisha, any ideas on the poolside reception... re: whether or not brides have been rejected from having a poolside reception because they don't have enough pools?

Well, I've been in communication with DJ Bob, and mentioned to him that I don't have my dinner location and time confirmed yet. I told him I'm not sure if I will need him for 2 or 3 hours depending on what time my dinner is. He says I can just book him for the 2 hours for now (assuming it would be from 9-11pm), but we can add the extra hour if the dinner was earlier. He seems pretty flexible. I havent heard the greatest reviews about the resort DJ, which is why I decided to go with an outside DJ to make sure everyone has fun that night. I will probably need to hire an outside make up artist as well, but I've heard that some brides were able to get out of paying the vendor fees for them if they don't leave the room and don't use their facilities and eat their food. So we shall see what happens. Which hair/make up artist are you going with? I'm looking for one right now, and leaning toward Fernando.

I've read mostly positive reviews about him, and the whole idea that he can speal English fluently helps. He gave me a 2012 quote for next year if I book this far in advance, so I'm thinking his rates might go up next year, which is why I would rather confirm with him now. Have you read any reviews on the resort DJ?

So do you see that possibility that a bride will not be able to have a poolside reception if there are multiple brides in one night? Cause I want to put down my deposit for a DJ cause it seems that he is very busy, but the resort won't confirm my dinner and reception locations for me right now. I just dont want to put a deposit down to find out that the resort can't allow me to have the poolside reception.

@ worstbride: Oh you know your FI would be completely shocked that you did it, and love it! You can do it!!!

Yeah, I'm just going to order maybe 5 extra of each thing, in case there are some last minute people who book. That way, at least I can get it out of the way since shipping can take awhile. You never know what could happen last minute with shipping and you don't get your stuff before the wedding. Oh gosh.. thinking about it is scary enough already.

I made my deadline approx. 3-4 months before the wedding date, just so I can start shopping for the OOT bag items, and start thinking about options at the resort (ie. paying extra for private dinner, the cost for the private poolside reception which is per person based).

Thanks Trisha! So really, the poolside reception for the Tulum brides are just an area beside the pool where they've set up chairs and the booth for the DJ. It's not like the jacuzzi pool where there is shallow water where I've seen pictures of guests dancing in. Do you remember if they can handle paper lanterns at the poolside reception for the Tulum brides? As well, if there are multiple brides on the resort that want the poolside reception, do you know what happens?

OMG! I would be petrified if they pulled me up like that.. but I'm sure you had a lot of fun. It's once in a lifetime memories anyways... well worth it!

Hey Trisha, do you know if there are pictures of Tulum poolside reception? I've seen many pictures but most of them are the Akumal or Coba ones. Unless I've seen it and just mistaken them for another part of the resort.

Best bet would be to check Michaels. I feel like they would have a lot of these DIY things.

So I showed some TTD photos of other couples that did not involve getting wet.. just pictures in the caves/cenotes and he likes those. So I guess I will take that.. and take the underwater ones myself Better than nothing
