  1. Well, I've already made the deposit for the DJ already, so I guess it really doesn't make a big difference when I find out. As long as it's 90days before the wedding because that's when I can still get my deposit back from DJ Bob. I guess it's just nice to know, but I won't die not knowing. You must be getting excited.. it's getting closer and closer to your date! Can't wait to hear your review and see your pictures!
  2. I still have not had any contact with the WC at the resort. My TA has been the one contacting Paloma, but it seems like there is still no response. I've been trying to confirm at least my ceremony location and whether or not I can have the poolside reception since I had already booked the DJ. No luck. It's been 2 months now since the first time I requested the TA to contact them. Oh wells, I guess we'll have to wait some more.
  3. Thanks for the advice Jenn. I will have to take a look at the website again. It's always more reassuring to hear from past brides that they had a positive experience with the vendors.
  4. Oh thanks! When are you getting married? Noticed you're getting married same month as I am.
  5. Oh, that's a shame. Hopefully someone else will be able to help then. I was wondering if any past brides/Trisha know and can suggest great locations for shooting the bride&groom pictures... maybe locations with buildings that have unique features or locations with great backdrops (other than the beach of course). I wanted to see if there are locations all around the 3 resorts, and consider renting a cart for an hour or so, so I can get to all these places with the photographers. I know I've always seen the big yellow building as backdrop.. and there was a little market/local shops? And there's the hammocks, but I have no idea where all these places are located. Thanks!
  6. The FI proposed 1 year 2 months after we first started dating. He said after dating me for 6 months, he already knew that he would be marrying me. It was just a matter of when he would actually do it.
  7. I'd love one for Gran Bahia Principe resorts (specifically one in Riviera Maya)
  8. I'm going with Photos In Cancun. They're actually my bridesmaid's friends, and they're reasonably priced. I'm paying $2500 for all day coverage, and they will have a DVD of all the photos taken that day for me the same night.
  9. Big koodos to Tlseege! She's been awesome with providing advice for our resort with her own experience as a bride and a photographer for other brides. She even helped us future brides with a photo tour of the resorts, so all us future brides can picture our wedding location.
  10. I was very against it at first. However, we're getting married in Mexico, and to get married legally there requires too much work (waiting 3-4 days after arrival to get married, and a blood test while in Mexico). The blood test just scared me, so I decided to just go to City Hall (I'm in Toronto) to get the paper work done. Just 2 witness that is required, and keeping it low-key as well. At the DW, we're going to arrange to have something signed so people can't tell the difference that it is just a ceremonial wedding in Mexico.
  11. Your idea is great! That's different and very special. I would love to get my FI to do salsa, but he's not a fan. So I gave him some homework one day, and told him to come up with songs that he likes for our first dance. His taste in music is VERY different from mine, so I was somewhat worried at first that we would never be able to choose one, but I under-estimated him. We're going with Thank You (For Loving Me) by Bon Jovi. When I hear that song sometimes, it makes me tear.. HAPPY tears, so I know it's the perfect song for our first dance.
  12. HAHA! That's pretty much all I do now... I think it's understandable. It's our WEDDING!
  13. I saw this question in another thread and I thought I'd ask in this thread since it's specific to our resort. Do past brides remember approx. how much cash they brought down to Mexico with them? And what type of things definitely needed to be paid in cash? I don't want to bring too much, but I don't want to bring too little either. Thanks!
  14. I went to Flight Centre and spoke with someone from Sunwing as well, but they were not very helpful. I ended up going with the travel agent now, and she's amazing. She's been handling all the guests bookings for me so I don't have to worry about that, and she helped me negotiate my rate. So travel agent, I would say, comes highly recommended. I think the travel agents from BDW (Wrights Travel) would probably be pretty dependable as well, and probably know really well what they're doing.
  15. That.. my fellow bride, is a question that I've been pondering myself. So I would be interested to hear what other past brides have to say.
  16. Her Andrea, I think I was told by another bride somewhere that they were not allowed speakers and mics etc at their dinner inside the a-la-carte restaurant because like you said, you won't be the only ones there. So the resort does not want to interrupt the dinner experience of its other patrons. As for the seatings inside the restaurant, I believe Trisha listed some of them out in her Offical Gran Bahia Principe thread, so you could check that out, and see what it says there.
  17. Thanks Shellee. I'm debating whether or not to use it right now, but I'd thought I'd ask cause if it wasn't included, it would've made my decision a lot easier.
  18. Congrats on your engagements. I'm from Toronto, ON and I'm having my destination wedding in Riviera Maya at Gran Bahia Principe and my travel agent quoted me $1103pp for double room for next November. I went with Destinationweddings.com and they assigned me a travel agent who's based in Kitchener. Happy planning!
  19. Does anyone know if the red carpet/aisle runner is provided by the resort at the tulum gazebo?
  20. Congrats! My fiancee's from Antigua, and all his extended family still lives there, so we were going to have our wedding there. However, when we checked the rates for wedding there, it was totally out of our budget. It would've been roughly $2000pp to go, so we had to change locations, unfortunately.
  21. I've been debating that, and I've been asking around for make-up artirst in the area of the resort. One of the make-up artists includes falsies, so I'm not even going to bother with anything else and just go with whatever she has to offer. Fireynurse, your make up was GORGEOUS! you looked fantastic!
  22. My travel agent is Shelley Elkas, and I found her from destinationweddings.com. She's helped me book the resort and confirm the dates and time of our ceremony, and she's also helping with all my initial paperwork with the resort as well. She help me negotiate rates, and she's handles all the travel bookings for my guests. She's been great and her services were FREE!
  23. My travel agent helped us confirm the date and time of our wedding ceremony as well. She didn't get the confirmation for the location or the reception, but it was still helpful.
