  1. We chose a destination wedding, mostly because I have always wanted to get married on the beach and have as far back as I can remember wanted to get married down south. My hubby to be is catholic and wants a catholic ceremony, so if we had the wedding in Canada one of us would have to give up our "dream wedding". So instead we are having a destination wedding on the beach with our close friends and family so I can have my dream wedding and when we return we will have a catholic ceremony for my hubby! Also works well for friends and family who might not be able to make it to the wedding in Cuba. I'll just wear the same dress and I am getting real touch flowers so we can reuse these as well! And then we will just have a bbq and drinks at our house afterwards to celebrate. This way we both get what we want and it is still less costly then having a traditional wedding here at home! So its a win win for both of us!
  2. These are all awesome ideas! We love to do puzzles, so I am going to have a wooden puzzle made with one of our engagement photos on the front and have every guest sign the back of a puzzle piece. Once we get home we can put it together and frame it in a double glass paned frame! You can order them in different sizes depending on the number of guests and it would be pretty light and easy to pack!
  3. Has anyone had a 1 bedroom suite at the Playa Pesquero? If so, do you think its worth the extra $$?
  4. Hey Nicki! I am planning on getting married at this hotel May 2014! Its amazing! My boyfriend and I were there last year! If you have facebook there is a great group you can join. Just search Playa Pesquero Brides. There are tons of photos and information. The beach BBQ is an extra 30$ per person, but if you are having a bigger group I think you have to do that or rent the hall because they only accomodate small groups in the restaurants. The pictures I have seen of the beach bbq looks awesome though and every who has done it says its well worth the extra $$! I have only heard good reviews from people who have gotten married here and like I said I have visited this resort and had a fantastic time! The resort is big but if you request a building near the lobbey nothing is that far! We thought it was going to be massive going there but I requested a room close to the lobbey... I just found recommendation on building numbers and then emailed the week before we headed down there and they accomodated us! Everyone there is really nice and theres lots of activities! If you have any other questions let me know!!!
  5. Wow Kay! Looks awesome!!! I love all the information you have provided! Very helpful!!!
  6. @Karyc I love bocci thats awesome! I was planning on bringing my dads make shift bocci set... I know most of them are pretty heavy, but my dad made one using a golf ball and old crocket balls... he just painted them different colours! It works great and is super light! Maybe that would be an option? Or depending on where you are getting married I know a lot of resorts in Cuba have bocci sets that maybe you could borrow!
  7. Ok so now I am confused... I just read that it wasn't adults only! Capucine 26 do you know?
  8. @Capucine 26- I just checked out the Melia Cayo Santa Maria... it is gorgeous but now I remember why I can't go there... its adults only and my sister and SIL will both have babies between 18 and 24 months.
  9. @Capucine26 Thanks! I am sure all of May will be busy and we really want to go the first week anyway! Its fine! From what everyone says they make you feel like you;re the only one anyway! I ahven't checked out the Melia Cayo Santa Maria but thats definitely something to look at! I know there isn't quite as much info out there about it but that might be because there are less weddings there! Thanks so much for all your advice!
  10. Still trying to decide on which resort- but am thinking I'll go with barefoot jewlery if I get married on the beach... my only concern is that my FI is 6'2" and I am only 5'4"... I don't want our photos to look weird because of the height difference, but I also don't want to wear shoes on the beach... way too hard to walk!
  11. @Capucine26 - I plan on getting married in May 2014... so definitely within high season...from what I understand April and May are the busiest. But its really the only option for us as we have some accountants and professors coming and they can't travel til May and from where we leave we can't go during the summer months... nor do I really want to since I live in Canada! I am guessing that 6 a day isn't the norm but I guess its just something to think about!
  12. Thats a great idea to either use it to help cover costs of the trip or to use for an excursion! I love it!
  13. Lydia, I love your bare foot sandals... where did you get those? They are gorgeous!!!
  14. Thanks Lydia! I have been to Holguin and we loved it and I've been to Varadero as well a number of times which I also loved. I love that the airport is so close... the reviews I've read on Melia LAs Dunas Cayo Santa Maria have been amazing but its hte long drive that keeps me from it the most. I am pretty much torn btw the Iberostar Laguna Azul in Varadero or Melia LAs Dunas. I guess it will mostly just come down to the price for our guests!
  15. Love your dress its gorgeous! I think the veil yoiu describe would be wonderful! Its such a delicate sleek dress you don't want anything to over powering!
  16. Great thred! This was awesome! You looked so beautiful! As did your whole wedding!
  17. Wow awesome thread! I am looking to get married next year in Cuba. Just haven't decided on a resort but looking between Varadero and Cayo Santa Maria and Holguin!
  18. I am hoping to keep mine under 10K including travel and accomodation which I think will be easily achieved for us! Going to keep things simple!
  19. This is such a great forum! Learned so many things!!! Back about the cake boxes... I think I'll have the cake right after ceremony... I am sure people will be hungry and then can enjoy it!
  20. This is definitely helpful! Also wish I could see the spreadsheet. Oh well!
  21. I think it sounds great!!! My FI and I have been taking salsa lessons for the past year and still have another year until our wedding, so I think we are going to come up with a choreographed salsa dance and surprise everyone with it. Most people know we take salsa lessons, but no one other then my parents (who also salsa) have seen us perform, so I think it will be a wonderful surprise! I originally was thinking that we'd do it right after the ceremony (as we are going to get married in Cuba too), but I think I'll save it for after dinner because we'll probably have a recorded version and I want to have the Cuban Trio play during our ceremony.
  22. For anyone who has been married here... I really would like to get married here, but I have read they can do up to 6 weddings a day which just seems crazy! But has anyone felt rushed or like that interfered with your day at all? Thanks~
  23. Oh awesome!! Good luck!!! I hope all goes well for your wedding!!! Congratulations! I can't wait to hear all about it when you get back!
