  1. Oh nice! I looked them up! That particular dress doesn't come in the colour I want... and my sister hates lace up backs but I know we can find something similar. I am hoping to go out in the next few weeks while she is in town visiting to look for some! Sooo excited!
  2. Makes sense and I mean people usually want to give you something so I guess why not put it towards something useful. I think the new house one is a great idea!
  3. But obviously everyone is different and I think it would depend on how your friends and family might see it. If you know they will think its tacky then why not just mention that cash would be preferable and then use the money you receive from the wedding towards your honeymoon and that way no one has to even know what you used your money for! Or you could set up both a honeymoon registry for those who wouldn't mind putting some money towards it and a "regular" registry for those you think would prefer to purchase a gift.
  4. I personally wouldn't do a honeymoon registry especially if I were having a destination wedding, but thats just me. But I think the reason some people may think its "tacky" is because a "regular" registry is to help you get items you might need for your household which are essential ( I know now a days many people already have everything or almost everything they need), but still it can help get you the other items to complete your household. Whereas people might see a honeymoon registry as something not essential or really necessary or as an extravagance. I personally like to buy gifts and would rather wrap something up and give it to them then give money or pay towards a honeymoon.
  5. ohhh just watched that video! That was super helpful and really super easy! Now its just to find flowers I like!
  6. Wow Kay! Thanks sooo much for all the information! I am definitely going to look into making my own bouquets! It will be a lot cheaper and I think can still look beautiful! Also I am going to think about doing the diy yourself aisle runner... I didn't even think about doing something like that but thats a really good idea! I love your colours! Is that the dress you are going with for your bridesmaids! Thats exactly what I am looking for!
  7. Oh Kay how was Alex as a photographer? Are you going to hire them for your wedding? I had been emailing him previously, but now that I am not getting married in Varadero I am not sure. I know they said they would travel to Holguin but I really want someone who is going to photograph the wedding before and after as well as the reception, but I know he said that when they go out of Varadero they don't do receptions so that kind of sucks and I also want to do a trash the dress the next day so I am not really sure what to do! Maybe I could ask them to stay the extra day and pay for their stay... I am guessing it would still be cheaper then bringing our own photographer from Canada with us. I think this is going to be one of the hardest things to decide on. As I think photographers are sooo expensive but at the same time I really want to have beautiful photos! What are you guys doing for photos? And have you guys decided on wedding colours? I had originally wanted pink and orange, but I think I have decided it might be too bright as we are going to have the wedding on the beach with a palm arch. So now I am thinking of going with coral bridesmaid dresses and add in other touches of pink and orange but on a lesser scale. And incorporate a little bit of the green from the palm arch! Although I keep changing my mind all the time loL! I am with you Jolene with so much time left to plan its like its hard to make decisions because I know nothing has to be made today and then to more I look around the more cute things I see and change my mind, so I am finding it difficult to focus I suppose hahah! I guess maybe I should sart by choosing colours and then going from there loL!
  8. OMg Jolene! Thats crazy! I would be soooo mad and would have been freaking out too! So glad you got such a good price! I was gonna say $1200 from Calgary even $1500 is good since its quite a bit further from Cuba then the east coast! Kay how do you find the flowers from Afloral? I have been talking to a lady at Destination or Not flowers (out of BC I think) and she has been really great. I just need a wedding bouquet and two bridesmaid bouquets and like 3 or 4 bouts so it won't be too bad. But then I was looking on Afloral and saw all the flowers and thought.... hmmm maybe I can do this. (I am honestly like the least crafty person ever, but this wedding thing and the prices are making me think otherwise and bringing out my crafty side I think lol). But yesterday I was reading a review of Afloral and this girl said the flowers weren't very nice and she ended up sending them back. So I am just concerned about the quality of them. Kay what did you mean when you said you added the flower heads and then the steams? Did the flowers not come with steams? I was thinking about doing the silk petals on the table. I think it looks sooo nice but simple and super easy to transport... my only concern is where we are having the reception on the beach I am wondering if it is going to be too windy and then they'll all blow away! I might go with the crystal pieces instead because it will add some colour to the table but they won't be flying away!
  9. Ohh thanks for letting me know!!! I am definitely going to try and check those out this weekend!
  10. Oh these look great! I am going to make some for my MOH and Bridesmaid. I am going to give them to them when I ask them to be in my wedding! So excited to get started! I am shopping around for some beads now! Just need to find what I am looking for!
  11. Ohhhh Kay the bouquet looks awesome! I am so on the fence about the fake flowers... I mean I have seen some of the real touch ones and they are beautiful and we are having a catholic wedding ceremony when we return so I figure we can use them again at that ceremony as well as in Cuba. I find some of the cuban bouquets to be a bit dated so I am not sure, but I am also budget concious so maybe making them myself would a good alternative... Kay where did you get your flowers from? Michaels? I What are you guys planning on doing for table decorations or centrepieces? I am having my reception on the beach and want to have a sweet heart table with banquet tables in a square so everyone can still interact. But I am unsure of what to do for centrepieces as I don't want them to be too high and also since I'll be bringing them I don't want anything too heavy! Let me know if you guys have any ideas! And Jolene! Thats a fantastic price for that resort! I don't know where you are flying from but I live in Halifax and I looked and it was about 1600$ to $1700 and we definitely didn't want to spend that much. Not so much for ourselves but for our guests... we are trying to keep it under $1300 preferably under $1200. And for Playa Pesquero I think we can get that which makes me happy! Since we've been there before we at least know what to expect and it was a fantastic resort!
  12. Thanks for sharing Corra! Always good to know those little things that might be forgotten! I haven't heard from anyone else that the judge needed their passports at the ceremony. Anyhow we will be having a symbolic ceremony as we are going to legally get married in Canada just to make it easier! I have decided not to get married here but another resort we have vacationed to last year. But I always like to hear how others weddings went in Cuba.
  13. Oh I have heard the Iberostar Varadero is amazing! I would have liked to go there but it was out of the price range we wanted to keep for guests unfortunately. I had been thinking of doing a puzzle guest book. We'd get a wood puzzle made with one of our engagement photos on it and have the guests sign the back cause we like to do puzzles haha! But I almost think I like your idea better because its so easy to pack and you can frame it once you get home! Are you guys bringing your own flowers or using the ones provided by the resort?
  14. Ohhh those are awesome Jolene! I love it! I especially love the map idea! Thats great!!! I have ultimately decided on getting married at the Playa Pesquero in Holguin, but since there doesn't seem to be a ton of Cuba Brides out there... I'll probably stick around in this thread for other ideas if thats ok haha!
  15. from Banner Bash on Etsy I definitely want to do a sweet heart table (not that I even realized that, thats what they were called!) I found a cute Mr and Mrs sign on etsy that I think I will go with in orange, pink, and white. On the table I'll have a pink table overlay (sheer) and then put my flowers on front. We want to keep our decor simple because we have to pretty much bring everything with us as in Cuba they don't have a whole lot of choices for decorations. I hope it will look good once its all pulled together!
