  1. Oh no! That is super stressful. Has anyone put their deposits down yet? Have you and FI put yours down? Thats awful that she has Cancer and i dont mean to sound rude, but she'll probably have a lot on her plate. I can't even imagine that but if she's telling you that she can handle it, then maybe she means it. But regardless of her health situation or that you used to work together, you need to do what is best for you and your guests. I went through a lot of travel agents before I settled on one who is actually in Mississauga Ontario. Knowing how our families are, I wanted someone who was getting the best deal for us but also has great customer service. My guests LOVE her. I hope you end up with the same experience! Who are you going with in Mississauga? I am on the hunt for a TA but have had no idea where to even start
  2. Thanks everyone for your kind words It was a surprise and a lifetime memory @Abbie- thanks! I always chuckle to myself when I think of little Pedro. He was maybe a 20 year old, very young and green. So adorable. It is just so hilarious that there was actually a Pedro who we saw repeatedly throughout our stay at Dreams.
  3. I agree- it is completely up to the bride on whether to wear a veil or not. I will be- just a fingertip length one, with maybe some satin or jewels at the bottom. I don't want anything overly dramatic or too long, but I got a bit choked up in the brief couple of seconds when I wore when when trying on dresses. Even though I hated the gown I was in, it was wearing the veil that really was the kick to the stomach that this is real for me.
  4. and congrats!!! Now take a breathe! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/f/33/destination-weddings-in-dominican-republic There's a whole section of the forum dedicated to DR, and I am sure you will find threads there dedicated to Bahia- Principe. I know I have certainly seen that name of the resort before come up. Go through and you will find amazing support from the ladies here in the community!
  5. Welcome welcome! I'm from Mississauga! Nice to find similar location newbies Congrats! You will find so many useful tips and advice from the ladies here! It's a really supportive community!!!
  6. Welcome! I am sure you will find many brides who will be able to provide advice and experience who have been to Grand Palladium Lady Hamilton Best of luck and congratulations!!!!
  7. Despite being out of school for a couple of years, and working full time, both of us are finding it a real challenge to save up for our wedding. We only manage to put away about 300-400/month combined, as all of our expenses and accounts are already joint. Neither of us have very good jobs, and barely make enough each month to cover our expenses. We are both hoping our tax refunds will be big this year, so we can put those away towards the wedding. I also put my birthday money away, and any extra little bits I can spare. It is definitely going to be a lot of DIY projects for me to keep costs way down!
  8. My dream wedding has always been on a beach. I never knew the when or where's, but always knew that is what I wanted. So when we got engaged in PV, it made the decision extremely easy to just head back there. I am huge on sentimentality, and because neither of us are particularly close with our families, it makes sense to head down there and have a small, intimate ceremony with our closest families and friends. I know people's feelings will be hurt and not everyone will be able to make it. But it's the wedding of our dreams, in a place that holds a near and dear place in our hearts. We want to share that with our family and friends.
  9. I think that is a great number!!!! Your down 6 pounds in 3 weeks??????? That is amazing!!!! Right on track for healthy weight loss to keep it off!
  10. I think we are going to go with the ultimate package....though I'm not as sure now, after realizing how little photography we really get with the package. I might look into an outside photographer/videographer for the day of and use the resort photography for a ttd session. We just have such a limited budget, it scares me a little how expensive everything is!
  11. We are doing the exact same thing! Getting legally married back here in Mississauga one year before we get married in Mexico. We've told my parents and his parents, and we're thinking probably my grandmother and his brother, that's it. (Well, I told all my work girlfriends but none of them will be coming to the wedding, so it doesn't hurt for them to know!). We're just going to go to city hall, get married and have a small dinner out afterwards. No big thing- and I won't be telling any guests until after we get married down in Mexico, if I even decide to tell them at all!
  12. congrats!!!!! I do see that finding the perfect resort is the hardest part! Getting engaged at a resort definitely eliminated all other resorts for me, so that seems to be the least of my worries! We are Dreams buddies though I am getting married at Dreams Puerto Vallarta!
  13. I will certainly be wearing sandals for the ceremony and heels for the reception. On a good day I stumble over my own feet, let alone wearing heels on sand.... haha
  14. I am almost 11 months older than him. Early-February baby for me, Mid-December baby for him. We were the same grade, so that is always what I keep telling people (for those who didn't know us in high school)- he teases me about "robbing the cradle".
  15. I agree- some people want to buy an actual gift and some people don't. I actually don't even want to do a registry at all but my Mom pointed out there will be people who want to come but can't (for various reasons), and to at least give people some options to give us something. Seeing as we are in the same position as you, and our apartment is already overflowing with stuff (and I have a habit/tendency/complete lack of any ability to keep anything nice without breaking it), I don't need a bunch of fancy dishes/ kitchen stuff that I know I won't use at all/ break because I can't seem to help myself. All it will do it sit in our storage room until we move, and then sit in the basement haha. I would gladly set up a registry for a honeymoon/house. Because let's face it, life is far too expensive and houses are not cheap at all.
  16. hahahaha. Could be.... I think it's also an adult syndrome.... we grow up and don't want to get out of bed and participate in the day because being an adult and having responsibilities seriously stinks some days! hahaha
  17. I guess asking for money is always considered "tacky" but my FI and I will not be having a regular registry. We've been together for 10 years, lived together for 7, and by the time we get married we will have lived together for 9 years. I will probably do a honeymoon/weddingmoon registry/ new house registry. All we really need is help buying a house, as we are currently renting. I know people think it's tacky, but I don't want to register for a bunch of "stuff" I know I will never, ever use.
  18. Alright, week #3 weigh in: I swear, I don't know how that number keeps dropping. Last week was a HORRID week for me. Got AF, I was stressed about work and outside work event stuff I do, I ate like a horse a,d went on week #2 of no gym. That changes today- somehow I manage to keep this number dropping, so I am going to push it and push it for this week. I want to see 170 something next week, and hopefully be dropping more than a couple pounds! No more of this gross eating and no gym business. Enough is enough. How was your weekend ladies?
