I got my first "declined" RSVP today and in my head I was thinking "YESSSSS two less people!!" LOL, terrible I know, but the rising cost of this wedding is giving me nightmares. I hear you though, your ceremony's on the pier right? I remember BBPD telling me there was a limit for having it there.

  2. On the sheet for pricing it's $1300 with fireworks and MC plus other stuff or $700 with just the DJ and a wireless mic Yes he is the recommended one so no outside fees to worry about, I was so happy when I was told! He has a different price but when I compared it's just different packages offered from the hotel and the DJ, difference is not bad at all in my opinion. You are paying $300 more for fireworks and flashing devices as in comparison to his package for the wedding. The only thing I'm not happy about is the extra hour but it is what it is.  Did we all get the same pricing, please say yes lol lol
Hmmm... I couldn't tell you, I haven't asked Aris about using him or his packages. Wait, is the hotel package $300 more for the fireworks than DJ Mannia charges? Or vice versa?
  3. What was the price you were quoted for dj and mc? And is this without the 'fireworks'? Does anyone know if there is no mc, does that mean there is no mic at all? I'm trying to justify all the costs :s
I was quoted 1300 for the full MC and DJ package for 3 hrs which supposedly includes the "cold fires" or "flares" or whatever the heck they're called and "robotic led lights", not sure what THOSE are... Maybe pillars? If you choose not to have a DJ and just hook up an iPod or something, they charge $400 to rent the sound system which includes a mic if I'm not mistaken.

We are all mostly for DJ Mannia, the resort recommends him and he has amazing reviews. Plus a friend of a friend had him for her wedding 2 years ago. Good Luck on your wedding and planning!

SoonMrsD, do you know if DJ Mannia is one of the DJ's that our WC's give us the pricing for? I chose the package that includes the MC, but don't know if DJ Mannia has to be booked separately or has a different price list. I've also read great things about him.

    Hi Melissa,

Are you a May bride also??? Our date is the 2nd of May. I have the following so far:

    -personailzed bags

    -hand sanitizer

    -advil, pepto, for the hangover

    -aloe vera

    -sun screen

    -welcome letter

-I want to buy the door hangers (where did you get yours?)

I actually hired my photographer from here, flying her out and having her stay at the resort for a couple of days. She will be covering other activities, apart from the "day"

JCastro, I saw you're also from NY, where did you find your photographer? I don't mind the style of TP, but their package prices are outrageous! I really wanted someone who could take pictures of our stay out there, at least while we're with most of our friends and family.

My wedding is still 7months away (April 2014) I have the date booked and ceremony time and reception etc...but haven't booked or discussed anything else with the coordinator.  Which I believe from reading through the past comments, is no longer working there :( so I emailed the other day and still ahven't heard back.

Should I be booking and reserving a dj this far in advance? and with decor etc do I need to let them know colours or does most of this get dealt with once we are there?

I am the WORST wedding planner ever!!!!!!!!!!!

Ps.. Thank goodness for this thread or else i would be even more lost! I love all the pictures and posts from all the past weddings!! Makes me so excited for mine!!

Trish, when are you in April? I'm April 5, 2014, but I've been so nervous planning for everything that I've asked my WC tons of questions via email and also went over a couple things face to face when I met with her back in July, like colors and stuff.

I've read most WC's send you some sort of questionnaire to go over everything about 2 months before, but I would send sample pics of things you want, like colors, cake, centerpieces, etc so they can tell you what's possible and what may not be. Only because they love to charge "extra" for every little thing, I feel it helps to know budget-wise what you may be paying extra for.

On top of the DJ, you have to pay $15/pp for the extra hour.
Supposedly it's to cover the cost of drinks or whatever. I'm definitely doing the extra hour as well, even though it's gonna run us about $2k just for that ONE extra hour. :o

Even a reception hall in the US gives you at least 4 hours, they sure know how to get every extra penny from us destination brides! LOL
oh gosh how many people are you having?

LOL! wayyyy too many! We're thinking anywhere from 100-120, hopefully no more than 150. We both have very large families!

  8. So depending on the DJ Mannia package you choose it could be $236 or $433, just for the extra hour. I might do it since everyone keeps telling me its worth it but it's so much money lol

  9. Thanks so much for posting this! That centerpiece looks so much better than the old Christmas-like one. I was just wondering if you heard back yet about the mirrored plate also being included with the cylinder rental? Thanks!
Of course, this forum is one of the few, if not only resources we bbpd brides have to get info, always willing to share whatever info I can get. Aris told me that conditional on how many guests I end up having, since it's a large group (we're expecting at least 100-120, maybe even 150!) she could allow me to rent the cylinder vase with the mirrored plate at $20 a table. For once, I actually got them to bend a little and all I did was say I'd bring my own flowers LOL. Give it a shot, looks like they're willing to bargain on some stuff. Now let's see what I can do with that darn drapery!

The first one is the picture they send you for the Tangerine package

Drapping Bar Higüey (Casablanca ceiling and walls) 1888
    Drapping Ibiza 1  & 2 or 3 & 4 (Full drapping  hanging on wall pipe & drape tube) 2360
Drapping Mallorca 1 and 2  (Full drapping  hanging on wall pipe & drape tube) 4248
Drapping Mallorca 2 (Full drapping  hanging on wall pipe & drape tube) 3540

WHATTTTTT???!!!! I think I'll do just fine without the draping. My reception will be in both of the Mallorca ballrooms and I'm not about to pay close to 5 grand for that. They're out of their minds! stupid.gif

  11. Did you know the Tiffany Chairs in the first picture are $12 each to rent?   So the only ones that are free are the plastic ones covered in white with a color sash... ugh what a disappointment!  Also, there's an IKEA about 5-10 min away from the resort for last minute things. I wonder if it's worth paying $15 to rent the cylinder or better to just bring my own and leave it at the resort unless my guests want to take it home with them lol I'm def doing my own centerpieces since it will prob look better and be cheaper than what they offer.  Aris is my WC as well, Good Luck and keep us posted on any other details please!!!
I know, I'm so in love with the Tiffany chairs, that might be my splurge depending on my final guest count. I found a similar cylinder vase at IKEA at 20 bucks a piece, I figure maybe it'll save me the headache of not having to worry about transporting glass myself and it's 5 bucks less to rent them. And I don't know how many of my guests will actually want to lug a glass vase back home with them anyway and I'll have plenty of other favors for them to take home. Aris is so amazing, she always responds back so quickly to my emails, love her!
  12. Hey ladies, so I've been hounding Aris because I refuse to pay $50 for each centerpiece and finally told her I'm willing to bring my own flowers for the centerpiece (I heard they use fake ones anyway!) and the votive candles. She finally told me they can rent a cylinder vase at $15 per table. I'm waiting to hear if this includes the mirrored plate as well, which makes it wayyyy more affordable. She sent me a photo of the cylinder vase and I'm also waiting for her to send me the dimensions of it. Here is the sample photo she sent me.

    700

Also, I found out that the tangerine package table decor allows you to choose one of the following:

    1. colored tablecloth

    2. white tablecloth with color runner

    3. white tablecloth with a topper? not sure what she meant by that, I'm not really a decor expert (LOL) but she attached the following photos:

    400

    400

    400

Last but not least, she also attached the included centerpiece everyone has talking about, which is not terrible, but I'm more a fan of taller centerpieces.

    CREATOR: gd-jpeg v1.0 (using IJG JPEG v62), quality = 80

  13. @lovelyGemini: I don't have all the photos from the photographer yet so this is just a photo a guest took on her phone so you can get an idea of the centerpieces photo photo_zpsf094f047.jpg
It looks really nice! I wanted to do something similar while bringing my own supplies but this would save me the trouble of bringing or shipping vases over. I can see that you added your own personal touches to the centerpiece as well and it looked beautiful! You have been incredibly helpful and I can't say enough how gorgeous you looked. That dress was absolutely stunning and it definitely looked pretty heavy but worth it!
  14. I didn't realize the opinion everyone would have on hair! I just tried dresses for the first time on Monday and I was completely outvoted in having my hair down! lol. But I agree... we don't want to regret anything in our pictures! MissJali- I do not have an "up-do" face either!!
Put your foot down! At the end of the day, we're the ones who are gonna have to look at our wedding photos over and over. You wanna have your hair down, you have every right girl!
  15. @LovelyGemini: Everyone was telling me the same thing (to get an updo) but I really didn't want to. I orginally wanted to get a waterfall braid but that didn't work with my headpiece so the hairdresser did something similar. Also, I put on clip-in extensions for the extra 4 inches in length so that the curls would look better, the curls fell by the end on the night but I still loved the way my hair came out and since it was somewhat away from my face, it didn't bother me at all. Also, you can take anything that you would like with you but just think of the weight and how much space its going to take up in your suitcase. I used up two large suitcases and at least 4 carry on's for all my stuff that I took, not to mention that I had to carry my super heavy dress throughout the entire airport while waiting close to an hour and a half in Punta Cana Airport to get through customs. I would suggest giving the DJ a playlist, I did this and the music was amazing all night (with the exception of the fact we improvised wanting the wedding party to dance a song together and the DJ put a really old Fulanito song that was super long that I didn't really like.)
Solo, Your hair really did look great. I think I'm gonna have to invoke my inner bridezilla a bit and put my foot down about my hairstyle, no matter what anyone else says. I'm definitely a little worried about the weight of everything and especially since I'm probably bringing my own centerpieces. Do you have any pics of the centerpiece the resort provided you with? Just in case I decide to cave and pay for it after all... It's good to know the DJ turned out well, looks like I'll have to start working on the playlist soon!
  16. Probably June 25th. I haven't submitted my reservation form as of yet because I am between the strawberry package and the tangerine package. I was also thinking about sending in the reservation after I purchased my plane tickets. Do you think I should send in the reservation form before confirming my vacation details?
I completely agree with MissJali. Get your date first! I confirmed my date on my own by contacting the Wedding Dept. at the resort. I sent them two emails within 2 weeks and when I still didn't get a response I bought a calling card and called over there. I told them I was waiting for a response to confirm my date and someone emailed me back within a day. After I confirmed my date, then I contacted delta vacations to arrange travel for me and our guests, I just let them know I had already confirmed the date with the resort. Also make sure you ask for confirmation of every email you send to the wedding dept. at BBPD
