My name is Dennise Betancourt, I am one of the wedding coordinators at Adventure Weddings…by my journey with Adventure Weddings started before I started wearing the uniform….The journey started in January 2011 when Gareth, now my husband asked me if I would consider spending the rest of my life with him. The proposal was a total surprise, so I obviously had no idea, so I obviously didn’t have the chance to get a manicure and he clearly didn’t think to drop me a hint before the big moment! Imagine the photos of the ring without the nails looking perfect? Anyway…I said yes and the ideas and planning began. I was working for the International Convention Center at the time busy with all kinds of events and exhibitions, so the idea of planning my big day wasn’t a worry for me…how hard could it be after organzing events for 5,000 people….right? Gareth works for Vallarta Adventures, the company that manages Adventure Weddings, so through various work opportunities, we had spent time together on the different tours and excursions the company offers, but there was one tour, one place that always seemed to stand out, the place where we had been as friends and the same place where we first felt there was something more between us. What was the place?? Las Caletas….if you have ever been, by day or by night, you will understand that the location is magical, at least that is how it always feels to us. After the initial wave of messages on Face, calls, texts and the high of spreading the news has started to reduce, the reality of actually planning the wedding kicks in. We talked about a few options, but we both came to a very quick conclusion that the only place we really wanted for our wedding day was Las Caletas. The date was chosen, and then rechosen and finally fixed for January 22nd 2012. The deposit was paid and we started to relax…this was really happening!! Time went by, and by August 2011 we had ideas of how the day would shape up, color scheme was going to be green and brown, we had the main ideas, so we were feeling good. We went to a local bridal show where we ordered invitations, I tried on dresses, we looked at rings…we got things in place ready for the big day. Imagine getting a call from Gareth one day at work asking if I would consider taking a job at Adventure Weddings..they needed a new coordinator with experience of event planning….it was kind of a strange situation as I would now find myself at the center of organizing my own wedding, but I decided to say yes. On my first day in the job when I stepped off the boat at Las Caletas, I knew my decision was the correct one…I was in love with the place and the product, it just felt right! Time kind of caught up with us, and we suddenly realized that we had literally 4 weeks before the wedding day, and we still had not finalized the details, sent all of the invitations, lots still to do…oh, and by the way, we had now changed the color scheme! Eventually it all came together, and the day of the wedding was perfect. We had guests fly in from the States, England, Australia and all over Mexico, so it was truly an international event. Everyone that was there fell in love with the place, they understood what had made it such a special place for us, and what to this day will make the start of our lives together as memorable as we know it will be for everyone else. Below are some photos from the day…and the fiesta at night!! Our private catamaran... Fingerprint tree....awesome! And then the party begins... Check out the next photo....me and my maid of honor! Hope you enjoyed reading a bit of our story, as you can see, we had a great day! I would love to know your stories, get to know how you found Las Caletas and then I know that as it was for me, once the dust has settled on the wedding, Las Caletas will always hold a really special place in your heart. Write soon!! All the best! Dennise x
