  1. I would be more than happy to share except I don't really know. Haha. We didn't *really* use a pattern, but this is close to what we did. I looked around for a tutorial to share but nothing was very similar. This is the closest one. http://www.designsponge.com/2012/07/diy-project-mesh-screen-beach-bag.html Our process went like this: 1. cut the pet screen (I don't have measurements bc we ended up with several different sizes - i think our smallest ones are 19 inches wide and around 14 tall? don't quote me on that.) 2, pin the ribbon or whatever you're using down the middle (I marked a straight line with chalk first) 3. sew the ribbon on 4. fold a little lip down, pin, and sew, on both ends so you don't have things poking out on the top edge 5. using a REALLY GOOD grommet tool or REALLY GOOD giant hole punch, make holes and install grommets. I honestly don't recommend this because it was a huge pain in the *ss but I do like the way it looks. I also went through LOTS of hole punchers before I found one that worked, because none of the grommet tools I tried were sharp enough to get through 2 layers of pet screen AND the ribbon. 6. sew up the sides (when you're done the bag should be inside out) 7. sew a diagonal triange thing at each bottom corner (this is optional, but gives the bags a rounded look and reinforces the corners) 8. turn it inside out/now it's actually right side out (sorry if i'm not making sense, this is hard to explain) tie your handles on. i reinforced my knots with super glue just so they wouldn't slip out. hope that helps!
  2. I got it. It was fine, gave me an idea of what papers I liked and didn't like.
  3. Quote:Originally Posted by lyna89 I love these beach bags! I so wish I knew how to sew! Awesome job with them! Thank you! I'll probably be selling some once we have RSVPs totally sorted out.
  4. I almost want to have someone random there as the witness instead of a friend or family member when we do it, specifically because I don't want it to feel important!
  5. I agree with Lydia1120 above. I don't like the idea of lying about it because 1. it seems unnecessary, and 2. people might find out one day and it will be something bigger than it needs to be. We're doing the same thing - probably getting legally married 2 weeks or so before we leave, and both sets of parents know this. But I am afraid that if other people are there, it will feel more like a wedding than I want it to. Can you try explaining that? That you don't want anything about it to compete with your wedding in Mexico, and you don't want it to feel wedding-y?
  6. I ordered from bulk apocathery and it came VERY fast, and was cheap. I think it was like .28 each for 100 of them. Something like that.
  7. UGHHHHH it is SO RUDE, and I really don't understand what's up with people! The real killer is people who have planned their own wedding in the last few years...DO THEY NOT REMEMBER WHAT IT'S LIKE?! AHHH. I hope you can tell from my all caps that I have strong feelings about this. Lol. But seriously. Wtf. And yeah...tons of people who have booked flights just ignored the RSVP step. I still need to know which events they are attending, their guest's name, etc. Super annoying.
  8. Ugh so frustrating. I'm sorry. I agree - I would just ask her in as non-confrontational a way as possible. I have my feelings pretty hurt that a couple of my good friends - people for whom I was a bridesmaid despite living several states away- aren't making the effort to be at my wedding. I understand that priorities change, but I feel like if I was able to make the sacrifices as a 22 year old who was barely making ends meet, they should be able to do it as established 30 year olds. Not about the age. But since I lived out of state, I still had to buy plane tickets, hotel rooms, etc, in addition to the dress and shoes and everything else. And they act like it's an easy out because it's a destination wedding. I'm not having bridesmaids bc I didn't want to ask people to spend money on the dress, etc, in addition to travel, so I feel like they have it easier than I did in terms of expense, and money isn't as tight for any of us now as it was then. Oh, well.
  9. Really? It's so frustrating that you have to spend so much time trying to get the best price, but I guess it is what it is. Let me know if I can help!
  10. Crazy right? I used a discount code for my save the dates (maybe 50% off or something? I don't really remember!), then for everything else I've used 2 of the $17 for $70 of merchandise groupons. You get 30% off with those, too, and if you spend $25 on top of the groupon value, you get free shipping. So my big orders have cost me $17 for the groupon + $25-$30 in stuff in order to get free shipping. So for $17+$25=$42, I'm getting $135 worth of stuff ($135 @ 30% off = about $95, which covers the $25 over groupon value for free shipping). Pretty great.
  11. I'll just copy and paste what I put on a different thread today below! I think the free stuff is less common now - every now and then I'll get an email with a free something - like a free tote bag with an order - but I think the groupons and living social deals are the way to go! See below for my list. I got: save the dates, t-shirts for my ring bearers and flower girl, business cards for luggage tags, business cards for name tags to put on our welcome bags, business cards that say "love is brewing" to tie on the coffee i'm leaving in each guest's kitchen, photo share cards, a lawn sign for my "shoes optional" sign, pretravel brochures, menus, welcome letters (rack cards with a letter on the front and a weekend itinerary on the back), return address labels for save the dates and pretravel brochures, return address labels that I turned into little flags for our drink stirrers, stickers to use as envelope seals for our pretravel brochures, business cards for the key/tip holders...I think that's it. But ALL of that, including my save the dates, is going to end up at less than $200 - and that's including about $25 worth of stuff I ordered for my niece's birthday party, actually. No way I would have been able to pull that off anywhere else. And we're going to have 75-100 guests so it's a lot of printing.
  12. I've used it a TON, too. 13. we registered. we knew a lot of the people we invited wouldn't be able to come, and would want to send a gift. we even had people ask where we were registered when we got engaged. i'm not having a shower, but if you are, i don't think there is anything wrong with registering. people will probably ask if you don't!
  14. i found jewelry difficult too! FI's mom made me a freshwater pearl necklace that is pretty unique a while back, and i LOVE it, so i just decided to roll with that. this may not be helpful, but i think you should maybe try both styles with your dress and choose what you love. you can't go wrong!
  15. yeah i heard AFTER i sent mine that you can number them with black light pen, and it only shows up when you hold it under a black light! genius. but it doesn't help me, now does it? haha. oh well. next time we get married... (totally joking of course.)
  16. Well thanks guys, at least I know I'm not alone! We don't have a TA, and our hotel is made up of 3 bed/3 bath villas, so we have to match everyone up. Obviously we can't do that without RSVPs! Oh well, I knew this part was going to be kind of a headache. It will be fine! And soon I can just start tracking people down. Haha.
  17. Anyone else about to freak out over RSVPs? I am so annoyed, I can't even tell you. We do still have a week left before the deadline, but we only have responses from like half our guest list. And that's including a ton of people who didn't send the card back but have booked flights and such. WHY are people so rude?! I know everyone complains about this so I shouldn't be so surprised, I just expected more from my friends. Super super obnoxious. I almost can't wait until March 1st has come and gone so I can start hounding people.
  18. Speaking of vistaprint - groupon up today! $25 for $100. http://www.groupon.com/deals/vista-print-weddings?p=13&utm_source=channel_occasions_WED-deals&utm_medium=email&sid=c7fa65c4-ecc5-42e2-b548-d69d383c5220&division=new-york&user=f591ad93b4d2ce343b4307b032915c04f1e85a323d5a63411cf55ab781a069dd&date=20130221&s=body&c=button&d=groupon_occasions_deal
  19. I always thought the same - I'm from TX where it's not the norm for family members to throw showers. But up here (I'm in NYC), apparently - especially for Italian weddings? - that is totally the norm. But social norms aside, do what you want! People can choose not to attend if they want.
  20. Check out the Cabo Wedding Vendor forum - it's under Destination Weddings in Mexico. You may have better luck getting responses there! Good luck.
  21. Omg...your stuff is so cute! AND YOUR SON!! adorable. Great job on the basket. Love it.
  22. Pockets!!! How great. Good decision! You know, I never thought I was the type to freak out over small stuff but this wedding has really proved me wrong. Haha.
  23. OK here are our ring bearer "pillows" (we have 2 ring bearers). Not perfect but VERY easy and definitely serves the purpose! I'll probably play with ways to tie the ribbon, not sure I love it like it is in the picture.
  24. I'm kinda worried about heat stroke. I went for my first dress fitting on Wednesday, and made the immediate decision to have cups sewn into the dress instead of wearing the bustier I'd bought. I was freaking out from heat in the dead of winter indoors in NYC - was not going to fly on the beach in June! Maybe the girls won't look quite as pushed up or good but I'm willing to make that sacrifice. I've started having dreams about the wedding, and it's alwasy that something is undone! In one, I didn't even get into my dress until it was time for cake cutting. Last night, it wa an AHR (we aren't even having one of those!) and my hair was a MESS and I was trying to fix it while talking with guests. I think I'm going nuts. Lol.
