  1. Oh I am so sorry. My heart breaks for you - please let us know if there is anything we can do to help you get through this. I agree with Speckles - whatever you want to do is appropriate. Take care of yourself.
  2. I agree that it's been too quiet around here! I think I will just leave it to the guests if we decide to invite everyone to the rehearsal dinner. The rehearsal is going to be the only "offsite" group activity for us, and it looks like that may end up being family only anyway.
  3. I think you can go either way. It would certainly be nice if you have the space, but 1. I don't think you have to, and 2. I'd probably handle that however you are handling it with the rest of your guests. If everyone else is staying at your resort, if I were you, I would just tell her that you would love to have them, but they would need a day pass that costs $100 and you understand if they'd rather not spend the money.
  4. Ha thank you. I think I'm going to make 18 total, because I want to use them on the aisle chairs at the ceremony, and we will have 9 rows. I'm even considering having my coordinator move them from the ceremony to the reception during cocktail hour to be used as centerpieces, or at least part of the table decor. Might as well since I'm doing the work. I also discovered that before the halves are put together, they look pretty cool and have a flat bottom - would be great on tables if I could somehow take them apart after the ceremony. Probably more than I want to deal with though.
  5. Oh, but with tulle, it takes a LOT of circles. Well and because these are big. But I used 100 on this ball.
  6. Thanks! I ended up playing around with it and getting something I like in the end! They are much bigger, but that's because I bought 9" tulle circles pre-cut..it saved me a lot of work. Thank you SO MUCH for the inspiration. Here's how mine turned out - it looks more like a loofah in this picture than it does in real life. Haha. I'm going to put thicker ribbon on them once it arrives in the mail, which will help. And half of them will be navy - should look less like loofahs.
  7. Those are really cute, and what a GREAT price! A little part of me (a part that I refuse to acknowledge most of the time, lol) wishes I had done a little more shopping around before I decided to make my own invitations. Mine won't be passports or boarding pass or anything, but I couldn't find anything I liked so I bought all my paper and am just having them printed. They're going to be about $4 each when it's all said and done, and they will be a lot of work. You live, you learn!
  8. Oh how fun! Yay for June 22nd! The time is already flying. I know it's going to be here before we know it!
  9. I definitely think you can ask where people are staying. I'd just add a line on the RSVP card. You will probably have to hound people to get the info, since some of them won't know when they RSVP, but I don't think there's anything wrong with asking at all. I do agree that you can't really ask people to pay to attend, though. Seriously, I know this isn't new, but WHAT IS WITH PEOPLE inviting themselves?? SO rude! How many people are we talking about in your situation? I'll think about suggestions for you.
  10. Thanks! I originally bought the 100 circles from makeitunique (here http://myworld.ebay.com/makeitunique/&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2754) but that seller doesn't have a big assortment. Once I knew how many I needed (after doing this trial run), I ordered the rest - a ton of them - from dreampartycreation (here http://myworld.ebay.com/dreampartycreation/&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2754). Those haven't shipped yet, but hopefully they will be fine. You can also buy them at Michaels/Hobby Lobby type places, but I think they're cheaper on ebay.
  11. Best wishes to both of you. I am so glad he is recovering! I can so relate to that terror. My fiance was in a skiing accident and broke his jaw, along with most of the bones in his face, in February, and somehow came away without the brain damage that was likely. It is terrifying waiting to know if it's all going to be okay - I waited days, you have to be the strongest person in the world to last a month. Your story is going to be one with a very happy ending. So happy for you.
  12. Ah, I found the thread that inspired me to find a way to do this with tulle! Cheerios made felt balls that looked SOOOO cute at her ceremony. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/81315/repost-my-wedding-diy-sweatshop-pic-heavy-july-2012-now-jade I wanted to do something similar.
  13. I'll come back with pictures of the process, but for now will post a little how-to as best I can. I didn't take pictures while I was doing this one because I was sort of making it up as I went along (based loosely on some other tutorials I found online), but I like! It sort of looks like a loofah in this picture but it's way better in real life. It cost me $4! I'm planning to alternate these ivory ones with navy on the aisle chairs at the ceremony. I think I'm going to put a thicker ribbon on it, too. Materials: 100 tulle circles (purchased for $4 on ebay, including shipping - saved a million hours not having to cut out circles!), cardstock (already had), ribbon (already had), needle and thread (had), double sided tape (had). There are some tutorials online that use spools of tulle and are much faster (like this one http://blog.bigdotofhappiness.com/2012/05/tulle-ball-tutorial/) but I'm not crazy about the stiff edges on those, if that makes sense. First, I cut out 2 circles of ivory cardstock, probably half the diameter of my tulle circles. Then I put one tulle circle on top of another and folded the set in half, then into half again. I sewed it onto the center of the cardstock just at the point of the wedge, making sure to stitch at the edge to keep it closed. Repeated all the way around the circle, then started another layer on top of that, sort of between the first set to create volume. Hopefully that makes sense - like I said, I'll post pictures with more details when I do the next one. Just did that until it looked full and domed - when done you will have a half circle. These would be cute alone as a simple centerpiece, I think. I did the same with the other cardstock circle, then sewed the ribbon onto the back side of one of the carstocks and then taped the 2 pieces of cardstock together.
  14. Oh and here's one on living social today (NYC) - $10 for $50! http://www.livingsocial.com/cities/3-nyc-midtown/deals/496856-business-cards-holiday-cards-and-more
  15. Sometimes I wonder what these resorts are thinking. I hear you. Maybe you can do beachy centerpieces and bring some of the beach inside! That would be less money on flowers, too. And hopefully you can catch some of sunset during the cocktail hour.
  16. It expires 11.28, and I won't know enough details to be able to order that much from vistaprint by then! I can just email you the groupon voucher after purchase. I accept paypal. Thanks!
  17. You could always stuff the biggest empty suitcase with smaller ones. I agree that it's annoying, but I suppose it's better than getting caught off guard with a bunch of taxes and fees!
  18. Do you have the option of dinner outside, then dancing inside, or even the other way around? Or cocktail hour outside? I totally understand where you're coming from - that is so disappointing! I think that whatever you decide will really be okay though. Think of it like this - guests will have plenty of time to be outside. I know it's not ideal, but if part of your day has to be inside, it will still be beautiful.
  19. I was trying desperately to do it for $10,000...well, that is sooo not happening. It's still really early on for us, but it's looking like we're going have around 100 guests (twice as many as I originally thought). Based on that, it's going to be about $30,000 excluding travel and rings. And my dress was well under $1k. That's including a nice champagne brunch the day after the wedding - if we leave that out more like $24k. I have a really detailed budget spreadsheet and I still don't understand how it's possibly that much! Ugh. But about half of that is food/alcohol, as we really wanted a nice dinner. I guess you only do this once, right?
  20. I accidentally bought a Canadian Vistaprint groupon, and then one in the US the next day. I didn't realize how quickly these expire, and I'm not going to be able to order enough stuff to use both by November 28th (expiration date). Does anyone want to buy my Canada one? It's $19 for $50 of merchandise. Send me a PM if anyone is interested!
