  1. Allie this is sooo exciting! Love your tips. You're the first person on this board I've kinda watched plan and then get married so it's really fun. I can't wait to see all the photos, I know your details are going to be AMAZING. And it really makes me happy to hear that you would DIY all over again. I keep telling myself the personal touches will be worth it, but it helps to hear it from someone who knows!
  2. I know this thread is old, but maybe you will stop back by! Your tags are awesome, and I think I'm going to make something similar. Do you remember how much it was to mail them out? Thanks!
  3. I'm going to sew luggage tags and send those out with the pre-travel brochure as people RSVP instead of waiting until a few weeks before. I feel like that will help nudge people along who have RSVP'd and are planning to go but haven't booked their flight and/or hotel yet (we're not at an all inclusive). I'm so paranoid that people are going to procrastinate and our room block is only held until 3 months before the wedding!
  4. HOW IN THE WORLD HAVE I NOT SEEN YOUR PLANNING THREAD UNTIL NOW?! It's the best one I've seen. Wonderful job!
  5. I am not at that stage yet, but I would say something like "thank you so much for your generous gift. your support means so much to us" whether they attended the wedding or not. something along those lines?
  6. I agree...I mean we are doing VERY few flowers and it's still a decent sized expense! I have 6 more of the tulle balls to make - for 18 total - and I'm going to use them on the aisle chairs at the ceremony, and then am trying to think of a way to use them at the reception, too. They're pretty and it's so much work - I'd love to be able to find a use! They're much bigger than the felt ones though, bc the tulle circles come pre-cut at 9 inches. Let me know if you decide to use them and how!
  7. I used the budget generator here (top right download): http://www.bridetodo.com/todo.php and tweaked it a bit to fit what I needed. I've added to it since - for example, I have a tab for total that is the sum of 2 more tabs - one for my parents' expenses and one for mine. Then I've just added in extra tabs for things like OOT bags. It's really helped me to keep everything in one place and stay on top of it all. It has truly been a life saver.
  8. We haven't picked one yet. We're having a harpist, so it has to be something that sounds good on the harp. Maybe just the wedding march!
  9. Here's a tutorial that I looked at before trying to borrow Cheerio's idea but with tulle instead of felt. But this one uses felt. http://www.cakeeventsblog.com/2011/06/diy-tutorial-felt-pom-flowers.html
  10. I hadn't planned on doing these originally, but ended up going for it. I think people will like having somewhere to keep their stuff sand and water free. We're not at an all inclusive but it will still be nice for carrying money and cards. I bought the wrist coil keychain things on ebay - paid $35 for 100 of them - and the vinyl holders from an ebay seller in China, $12 for 100.
  11. I'm not sure yet - Juliette is going to price all that out for me. What in the world would I do without her? Although now FMIL isn't sure what she wants to do and doesn't want to do the rehearsal on Thursday. So who knows what we'll end up doing. Isn't it fun planning around everyone?
  12. Perhaps I will just leave the gift for his dad up to him! Haha. Thanks Speckles!
  13. I think that's maybe a little too early, but I know people do it. At the end of the day do what works for you! I just think the more time you give people, the more they put it off. We sent save the dates about 10 months in advance (believe me, I would have liked to do this earlier, but got push back from FI, FMIL, and my mom - all thought it was way too early and I didn't feel like arguing! Plus FI and his mom really dragged their feet on getting me addresses, so some didn't even go out until a little later), and will send our formal invitations in January. So for our 6.22.13 wedding, we did: Save the dates - 8.2012 (10 months in advance) Formal invitations: 1.2013 (5.5 months in advance) RSVP Date: 3.1.2013 (3.5 months in advance, but our room block is only held until 3.22.13 and I want people to have time to book)
  14. This is just my opinion, but I would actually feel less pressure to include everyone at an all inclusive resort. The reason I wanted all guests invited is because they're spending all this money to travel to our wedding, and they still have to pay for meals and such. Which is fine, I'd just like to show them a good time as much as possible. In your case, people are still covered for dinner even if they're not invited to the rehearsal dinner itself. Just my 2 cents!
  15. I'm wondering about this too. I'm planning to get my parents and his mom embroidered hankys, but I have no idea what to do for his dad. hanky seems weird - like i know my dad will both use it and love it because he's a softie and we're really close, but for his dad...weird. we're giving both sets of parents a large canvas and/or nice photo album of wedding pictures later, but want to do something small on the day of.
  16. Hi everyone! So I think I've solved the dilemma of wanting something on Friday for all guests/FI's family not wanting to do the rehearsal dinner for everyone. We'll do the rehearsal and rehearsal dinner on Thursday night. Then Friday, have a welcome cocktail party on the beach. I thought it wouldn't fit in the budget, but I think I've figured out a way to make it work. We'll hire a coconut vendor to bring a bar and make drinks. They bring fresh coconuts, crack them right there, use the fresh water to make a rum drink right in the coconut. Cute. We'll be able to buy local rum ourselves when we get there and avoid the markup of holding the event somewhere (and will even get a discount since I'm also buying 100 rum cakes to go in welcome bags!). Then I'll buy some beer and 1-2 other liquors on my own, hire another 1-2 bartenders, and just rent tables and such. If the budget permits we'll have a steel pan player for an hour (otherwise I'll just make a playlist and borrow some speakers), and I'm also going to rent some giant lawn games (Jenga, Twister). I think I can do the whole thing for about $2k, even with a couple of snacks. We'll do it from like 4-6 so people can do their own thing for dinner. Fingers crossed!
  17. It's one of those can coolers that slips on to a can, to keep the drink from warming up.
  18. Wonderful thread! Everything was gorgeous. Did you have any trouble checking the matchbooks in your bag?
  19. Not a template, but really cute for ideas - check pages 1 and 4 of this thread. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/81660/allie-hs-edr-rm-mexico-11-5-2012-planning-thread
  20. Very pretty! Just FYI, if you attach it as an image instead of an attachment, everyone can see it. Right now, only people who have 150 posts or are paid members can download it to see. You can do that with the icon 2 to the left of the paperclip you used to attach it the first time.
  21. We're doing one per couple/family or one per single guest. So if 2 single girls are sharing a room, 2 bags. If a couple, one bag. The ones for couples/families will have more stuff. Some of the items in a shared bag (like a koozie if I end up doing them) will be one per person, others (ex: playing cards, wedding day timeline) will be shared between a couple/family.
