  1. You can also get married on the Tequila Terrace of Beach Terrace. These locations are overlooking the beach and quite beautiful. If you send an e-mail to the wedding coordinators they can send you a package of all of the wedding locations. The fountains are smaller areas and I don't know how many guests you could fit, but the Tequila Terrace is pretty. They can do an amazing job setting it up too! Let me know if you have any questions.
  2. I love this idea! I think I might have to do something like this myself!!! You are so creative
  3. Sorry about the multiple posts. I haven't quite mastered the "multi" function on this site.... So I am rather lazy when it comes to preparing meals. BUT, for lunches I usually bring a salad. I have a massive salad spinner. Once a week I wash as much lettuce as I can fit in the spinner (you can jam a lot in there!), and then store the rest in the fridge still in the spinner (stays crisp!). I also will chop 2-3 peppers into salad-sized pieces and store those in a seperate container in the fridge. Then, every morning I just throw the lettuce and peppers into a container and take for lunch. I then have enough time in the morning to slice a tomato and cucumber and add that in too. OR, if I am really in a hurry, I just chop a hunk off of the cucumber and throw a tomato whole into my lunch bag with a knife and prep the rest on my lunch break. I got these awesome knives at Walmart just for this purpose. There were two in the package for less than 3$. They are small enough to fit in a lunch bag, sharp enough, and come with plastic sheaths over them. Salads can get quite boring, so I try to mix it up with different dressings, and always try to have a protein of some kind - eggs, cottage cheese... etc. Throw in a few black beans or chick peas, some nuts, or avocado, or salasa - lots of variety can be had.
  4. Big thigh girl here too! Why I was a figure skater I'll never know, totally don't have the body type for it. LOVED it, but so not the right body type. Should have been a speed skater or a cyclist or something!
  5. I agree with MoodyC82 - tea is a great way to drink less calories. It also acts for me, as a dessert "replacement". I drink a nice dessert flavoured tea after dinner and it lessens my craving to have something sweet. If you have a bit of extra money, David's Tea has a TON of amazing types of tea that all taste great. Have you ever been? You go in and tell them what kind of flavours you like and they get you smelling and tasting teas. Great experience. You can drink their teas hot or cold. If you are budget conscious, President's Choice has an excellent line of teas with a lot of different options. My favourite is their Ginger Peach tea Iced. I drink it ALL the time in the summer, it is super refreshing. I just drop a bag in my water bottle at work and can usually get 3-4 steeps out of it. YUM! Stash Teas are also usually very good.
  6. This is really good information for everyone out there. If you are working out your body is building muscle. Your body is also likely losing fat, which is what we all want. Don't always be so concerned with the numbers. Going to share some personal experience for those that are struggling: I find it easiest to lose weight when I am watching my carbohydrate intake. Many people don't realize how much a serving of carbs is... One slice of bread can often have over 30g of carbohydrates. That alone is what some diabetics are allowed for breakfast for their carbohydrate. ONE SLICE OF BREAD. Some brands of cereal can have 40+g of carbs for 3/4 of a cup - and we all know that we don't measure our breakfast cereal. A serving size of pasta can be 60g of carbs. SIXTY GRAMS. That is a lot of carbohydrates. My rule of thumb is to stick with carbohydrates that aren't refined, and are higher in fibre. Danielle, I would love to know what your book says about foods that are high in good fats, but are unprocessed - such as nuts, avocados, etc. One reason I don't particularly like the Weightwatchers plan is that it associates these types of foods with high points values because they are higher in fat, but give less points to highly processed, refined foods that are "diet". Which one is healthier for our bodies? Just because something is "diet" doesn't mean it's healthy. Just because something is healthy doesn't mean you should eat a lot of it (I'm thinking Quinoa here - need to remember serving sizes). I so wish I could take a nutrition course!
  7. I know it will be amazing TealMarie! After I purchased my dress I started having second thoughts.... I saw all of these beautiful dresses on this forum, and on pinterest and was having serious buyers remorse. Then my sister showed me a picture she had taken of me in the dress and all of those doubts instantly went away. I haven't been able to try my dress on again (no way i could get the corset done up on my own, and i am also afraid of ripping it or staining it somehow), but seeing that picture made me realize that no dress could top it. Good luck!
  8. Just some links to give you a better idea: http://cancunphotosblog.com/lauren-josh-now-sapphire/ Here you can see some onlookers, but they appear to be quite far away. Beautiful photos. Click "View More Photos" on the Right hand side of the page to see a slide show. http://delsolphotography.com/destination-wedding-mexico-now-sapphire-sr-041113/ http://delsolphotography.com/kelly-ron-now-sapphire-destination-wedding/ http://delsolphotography.com/elna-jamall-now-sapphire-destination-wedding/ Looking at these photos makes me so excited for my own wedding. Gives me goosebumps!!
  9. Have you looked into Now Sapphire at all? The Tequila Terrace is right off the beach and from what I have seen in photos fairly private. There is a beautiful wooden deck that leads down to the beach. The deck is where the reception is afterwards, so no gawkers. I fell in love with it after I saw photos of other brides weddings there. Del Sol and Sasha Gluck's photos sealed the deal for me. I couldn't find anywhere else that I loved more! Good Luck... finally deciding on a resort was the toughest part for me. It all gets better from there
  10. Great review! I love hearing all past brides stories! Congratulations, you looked beautiful!
  11. Make sure you stretch a LOT before and afterwards. I've done special leg workouts before and could barely walk the next day. It will be tough to get through the first few days, but you can do it!
  12. I can now run for 20 mins straight! I think when I first posted I was able to run one minute and then walk one minute. I can now run for twenty minutes straight, which makes me so happy. My goal when I started was to be able to run for a half hour - I am almost there!
  13. Yes, I am from Ontario. I'm glad to hear your weather was so great. I have gone at the end of May the last two years, and this past year I also went in the middle of September. All 3 times were HOT! Anything in the 20's sounds perfect Thanks for the info!
  14. FireyNurse, I see you were married at the end of November. How was the weather while you were down there? I've heard that it gets quite cool? Thanks!
  15. I guess, technically, a suit can be worn again (maybe even multiple times, depending on the man and the suit), while the wedding dress is really only going to be worn once. I just never thought they would be even close to the same price range, haha!
  16. Yeah, my FI is finding it pretty funny that his attire might cost more than my dress too. It is making him feel pretty important, lol!
  17. Let me know what you come up with! I started, but coming up with a good list has been a bit difficult for me...
  18. YES SIX MONTHS! Us too Can you tell I am excited? I cannot wait!
  19. The suit has been difficult for us. I agree, Moores, TipTop, and other stores in our area have a very limited selection as far as suits go, and I was surprised at the cost - the suit cannot cost more than my dress, that doesn't seem right to me... We also decided against linen, which limits us even more. We went into Michigan this weekend to see if the US had more selection. We went to countless stores, and it was very difficult to find something in his size off the rack. We ended up choosing something from Joseph A. Bank. It's a suit made especially for warmer climates, called "tropical blend". My fiance really liked the material of the suit as it is very light, and it was a great colour too. Patrick said he felt like it was something he would actually wear again. He wasn't able to try it on in his size, we had to specially order it - means another trip to the US for us. I really hope it fits. Now to find a reasonably priced and slim fitting pale blue dress shirt. This particular suit was on the top end of our price range for him. There are no matching pants for the groomsmen, so I am not sure what we are going to do there. My fiance suggested we find a darker shade of pants for them, with a darker blue shirt. I have no idea if this will look okay or not, but I guess it's not that big of a deal ( - aka don't stress ). I think it's great you are starting so early. It will allow you to figure out sizing and then keep an eye out for sales online, etc. My personal favourite suit was from Express - I think he looked super sexy, but he didn't love it.
  20. I cannot lie... This was in the city too - London. There are really nice trails very close to our house, but the signage is really poor. They all loop around these 3 lake/ponds. I am directionally challenged so I was no help. In the end it was a great work-out.
  21. Went for an hour and a half hike/run/walk just now. Wow. We got a bit lost in the bush... and I am exhausted, but feeling proud. I have never run with my Fiance before, but I think I kept up ok. It really forced me to push myself. Going to the states tomorrow to find some more wedding stuff. Hopefully we find a suit for Patrick... for less than 300$. Hard to find stuff off the rack for him cause he's so slim. (But I now weigh less than he does!! )
  22. I found picking the resort stressful because I wanted to find somewhere that I loved, was affordable for our guests, and had a wedding package where I wouldn't have to "add on" a lot of extras, or do a lot of additional planning. I had a few resorts in mind. Eventually, all of the wedding packages started to look the same to me. I finally narrowed it down to three in the Riviera Maya: 1. El Cid. My parents have stayed here a few years ago and really enjoyed it. When they returned from this vacation my dad raved about the fact that he could imagine one of his daughters getting married there. He said he thought it would be beautiful. 2. El Dorado Royale. I have been to this resort and it is fantastic. Honestly the most amazing resort I have ever been to. My parents are members of this property they loved it so much and I agree. 3. Now Sapphire. I saw photos of weddings at this property and fell in love. It was the first property that I could actually imagine and see us getting married at. As far as our guests were concerned, the El Cid was the cheapest package, El Dorado the most expensive, and Now Sapphire in the middle. I didn't love the El Cid, but had it on the list because of the cost for our guests. Every time I thought about getting married at the El Cid it made me sad - I just couldn't imagine myself getting married there. The Karisma property was far too expensive for our guests, and the wedding package didn't seem to have everything that we wanted. At the time we weren't certain if we wanted an adults only resort either. I was very confused about what to do, and found the decision pretty tough. We knew that we were going to be hard-pressed to have enough guests flying out of Canada to qualify for a group booking, so I did not have the help of a TA. I ended up having a long conversation with my fiance about the cost for our guests, and what we really wanted included for our wedding. The Now Sapphire had almost everything we wanted included in the wedding package, and I loved the ceremony and reception areas. He and I agreed together that it was the right choice for us, and I am ecstatic that we made that decision. I can't tell you how excited I am for our trip, and even more excited to marry my best friend. I know that I would not be as excited if we had booked the El Cid. I also think I would be far too stressed about finances if we had booked the El Dorado, and would have a lot more "planning" to do since the package didn't include certain things that we really wanted for our wedding. Pick a property that gets you excited! Somewhere that the locations for the ceremony and reception have yourself visualizing your wedding, but still fits into the budget. In the end that is what worked the best for me.
  23. Hi Katie, I was curious if you had settled on a resort yet. That was the toughest decision by far for me. After that it has been (fairly) smooth sailing!
  24. SIX MONTHS UNTIL WE LEAVE FOR OUR WEDDING! I am so excited to be able to say that! I started the DIY Barefoot Jewelry this week. It's coming along but slowly (it is taking me forever). My in-laws have now said that they are going to come to the wedding, but still haven't booked their trips yet. This weekend we are going to the US to try and find my fiance a suit! How are things going with the rest of you ladies?
