Hi Amanda! I am having 48 guests (including 2 kids aged 10 and 4) at my reception at Blue Terrace on Sun 9/01. 4 tables of 12 would be awesome - could you send me the layout options please? My email is [email protected]. Thank you very much! Less than 60 days until I'm there!!

Hi asposeep!! Sorry I meant to reply to you before and kept putting it off! Haha. I can't believe we're only 7 months away!!! On 8/31 we are doing a snorkeling excursion through this company: http://www.fatcatsail.com/. They pick you up at the hotel around noon I think, then drive you 45 mins to the catamaran and you are out on the water all day snorkeling and drinking rum and coronas until 5 or 6 then they drive you back to Azul Beach. I think 40 people fit on the catamaran so it will be our wedding guests only which will be so cool! If there are extra people, you can rent another boat to go out with the main catamaran. I went to Azul Beach Labor Day weekend 2012 and met the couple that got married on 9/01 and they recommended this catamaran and said it was so much fun! They did it in lieu of a rehearsal dinner which I'm thinking we may do, too. We have three nights of events planned so far. What about you? My fiance and I will arrive Wed 8/28 and our guests are arriving Thu 8/29 and Fri 8/30. On Fri we are having a welcome cocktail reception at the Blue Wave probably from 6-8. On Sat we are doing the catamaran during the day and maybe reserving a restaurant for dinner after? The Sun 9/01 is the big day! We're getting married on the beach and having the reception at The Blue Terrace. I haven't even begun to think about decorations or flowers yet. Everything is so expensive! I booked playaweddings for my photographer/videographer, booked the catamaran, ordered my invitations and I'm going to book DJ Dorremix. I also ordered "Welcome Totes" from wedding chicks when they were having a big sale for Black Friday. We picked our menu when we were visiting Azul Beach and will be adding paella and churros and not ordering a cake (other than the mini one included in my package - they weren't too good). Maybe also having a mojito bar during the reception. I would be down for sharing decorations especially lighting. What are your plans so far? Taryn

I am thinking 40-60 people. We reserved 30 rooms so we'll see! How many people do you think you'll have? Are you planning three nights of events? Also, the day you get married, most of my wedding guests and I will be out on a catamaran from like 1-7PM so you won't have to worry about us -

Hi Kaela, How much was the Mexican Trio if you don't mind me asking? I think Mariachi band at $900 is a bit much for an hour! -
Elizabeth Riff - she is great! That is unfair that they are doing this to you. I signed my contract in June so maybe they made it a rule after that? It's a stupid, stupid rule that shouldn't be in place anyway. It's your wedding you should be able to have whomever you want to DJ! You are bringing them a ton of business with all of the rooms your friends and family are booking!

Ashley, You can look at the banquet menu online and see the "dinner" choices which are used for weddings found here page 6-10: http://karismahotels.com/Portals/0/Files/Weddings/WeddingBanquetKit_0.pdf I just got the GTG from my Karisma wedding planner that DJ Doremixx is ok. Also, I am now thinking I will hire the same vendor for photography and videography so I will only have to pay the outside vendor fee once instead of twice with a different photographer and videographer. I was really hoping to do Samuel Luna for photography and playaweddings for videography but don't know what to do now! Anyone have any suggestions? I want to do the full day option for both.

Newbie Azul Beach 2013

Hi! I just sent you a PM. Friend me on FB I posted 90 pics! The Blue Restaurant was being renovated because the hurricane damaged it so there aren't any pics of that. -
Hi karyc, I hope bug spray works! I've been looking online and lots of people say to use Avon Skin So Soft to fight sand fleas. Maybe even using this spray called yard guard on the beach before the BBQ? I am thinking of just warning people beforehand so everyone can bring some bug spray (which the hotel does not provide or tell you that you need). Sand fleas love seaweed and there was a lot of the beach because of the recent hurricane so maybe that is why they were there. I hope it's not always that bad. I think my fiance just has a different blood type that they don't like! The Wave Lounge is a cool place to do a cocktail hour. We'll probably do it there after the ceremony on the beach... it's just next to the ceremony spot on the beach. It has cover and chairs for people to sit in and they can bring in high tables. It also lights up but we didn't get to see how it looks lit up. We may do the Sky Terrace for "Welcome Cocktails" from 6-8 but it started getting dark around 7:30 while we were there this weekend but it may be a different sunset time in March for you. The hotel does not provide bug spray or sunblock but does give you in the rooms: shampoo, conditioner, lotion, soap, shower cap, sewing kit and a vanity kit with a few q-tips and cotton balls. I'm thinking of including sun block, some kind of bug repellant, and maybe advil or something in case people get bit because it provides some relief. My bites are still burning and so itchy but I keep taking Ibuprofen and slathering myself in calamine lotion! For the food tasting we did three salads: Mexican Caesar (delish!), a mixed greens with shrimp (my fiance loved it, I don't eat seafood), and a classic mixed salad which was great. For the entrees we tried the salmon which my fiance won't stop raving about, the filet mignon which was amazing and the chicken which was good but TINY. We tried three desserts: macaroon cookie (okay), mango cheesecake (very good), creme brulee and chocolate mousse (yum). I think we'll do the caesar salad, filet and salmon and we're going to do churros for dessert along with our wedding cake. I'm also going to look into having paella as another app because it was fantastic! The food in the restaurants is amazing - maybe try the saffron risotto we had at Roma which is meatless and so delicious! Happy to answer any other questions!

Hi Ashley, I just got back Wed from Azul Beach. The Sky Terrace is bright white. We saw it during the day and it hurt my eyes it was so bright! There's also no shade up there for people who can't sit in the sun. I was thinking of doing a welcome cocktail hour (or two) up there from 6-8. there aren't any lights for after it gets dark. I loved Azul Beach! There was a very low occupancy rate so it was like we had the hotel to ourselves. They graciously (after a few requests) upgraded us to a junior suite swim up which was FANTASTIC. I'll definitely be booking some form of up swim up suite during our wedding. The executive chef accommodated our last minute request for a food & cake tasting and everything was amazing. They even had the cake sent to our room so we could nibble on the rest of it. We were blown away by how delicious everything was. Our guests will love the food. Roma is an amazing restaurant, Saffron Risotto was my favorite there and the vegetable spring rolls in Tainan were delicious. Unfortunately, Hurricane Ernesto had done some damage to Blue's roof so we didn't get to eat there or see what it would look like for our reception. The swim up pool bar, Bubbles, was a great spot. The Aquanox pool tended to be filled with kids during the day but is in a great spot next to the ocean. The beach beds were amazing. I loved lounging in them during the day when I needed a break from the sun. The beach butlers were fantastic; we never had to wait long for another drink! They also delivered food and picnic baskets (which need to be ordered the day before). You also need to give a beach butler a ticket with your name and room number by 2PM to enter your name in the lottery for the beach beds the next day. Since the occupancy rate is so low, we always got one! They will also drag chaises in front of the beach bed so you have the option of laying in the sun if you'd like. There was a lot of seaweed one day in the water and on the shore and the four other days there was a medium amount of seaweed. They work hard cleaning the shore all morning. There are some rocks/shells in the water, too. It would have been nice if there wasn't any seaweed at all. The entertainment is ok. It's generally 9:00 or 9:30 until 10:30PM each night. There are shows in a theater and there was live music and a casino night in the open air Aquanox lounge which was nice. We preferred to not be inside a theater. All entertainment ends at 10:30 which is a bummer. It would have been nice to have the option to stay out later and listen to music. The Aguavera lounge is open until 1AM but it is inside the hotel and it would be nice for the option to sit outside somewhere by the beach. The hotel is immaculately clean and absolutely beautiful. The staff are all so nice and friendly. They are paid minimum wage so we made sure to tip them well! I have one word of caution for everyone: sand fleas. I never saw a mention of them at Azul Beach anywhere online so I wasn't prepared. I had never heard of them before. I am irritated that the hotel neglects to mention them and warn guests. My last two nights, my fiance and I walked on the beach for a short bit (after being on the beach all day) and I woke up at 3AM with the most intense burning and stinging itchy bumps all over my feet and legs. I probably have 60 bites easily on both legs. I thought it was bed bugs or mosquitoes but my fiance didn't have any bites and there was nothing visible in our bed. I got home and googled bug bites Mexico and figured out they have to be sand flea bites. The bites vary from tiny to huge red welts and are insanely itchy. We are second guessing hosting a Beach BBQ Rehearsal Dinner on the beach because we don't want to subject our guests to these nasty sand flea bites! I guess dawn and dusk/night are when they come out and they bite you and inject you with an anesthesia-like liquid so you don't feel the bites and they're so small you can't see them. I'm really disappointed we weren't warned because I would have brought bug spray, skin-so-soft, etc. to prevent the bites.

Just read a review on TripAdvisor that they are planning to renovate the deluxe rooms. I wonder when that is supposed to be happen? That would be amazing if the rooms were all done by next September and my guests scored all newly renovated rooms! I will ask when I go down and see what I can find out. -

I think Doremixx is a no-brainer! Just emailed him Friday and waiting for a response now. Now to research photographers + videographers. I'm not interested in a trash the dress session but instead would love an hour or two of coverage at the rehearsal dinner BBQ on the beach. My fiance and I are visiting Azul Beach this Labor Day Weekend and are thinking about doing an "engagement session" there, for pics for the wedding website. I am trying to find creative & not cheesy Mexico wedding websites online but having a tough time. Does anybody have any recommendations for where I can find inspiration? I am having my company's IT guy help with with the site. For colors I am doing navy & bright teal with yellow accents. I think I found my bridesmaid dress in teal and now just need to find navy linen pants (and maybe linen suit coats) for the men. Or maybe just the coat for my fiance. I will be happy to ask the wedding coordinators about the end time for the reception while I'm down there. I'm very curious myself! -

I will have to check out Photos in Cancun. I know Samuel Luna also splits or covers the $800 outside vendor fee (depending on the package you book with him). If you hire a videographer as well, would they charge you the $800 for that if it is a different company? You would think the resort would give us a deal considering we're bring 60-100 people to the hotel for a weekend who otherwise wouldn't be there! Never mind charge us these fees. I'm also planning on the Blue Terrace for the reception. Do you need a to rent a dance floor in there? I hope not. We reserved 30 rooms but my fiancé keeps inviting people so I hope we have enough rooms for everybody. We were quoted $505 per person for 3 nights (I booked in June with the 30% discount promotion). I really want to bring down ribbon for the chairs, welcome bags, and some kind of lighting because the fees charged by Lomas to rent anything are outrageous in my opinion. Did you see the "Mexican doves" you can rent for $250 to release at the ceremony? They are PIGEONS! In case anyone missed it: http://www.weddingsbylomastravel.com/planning/details1.php?category=Butterflies_and_Doves I laughed my ass off when I saw that. The one thing I do really want are the white Tiffany chairs for the ceremony and reception (if that's possible). They look beautiful in all the photos I've seen them in. I am researching photo and video packages now and will probably go with DJ Doremixx since he's gotten amazing reviews. I was also thinking about the Mariachi Band for the cocktail hour after the ceremony... hmm so many choices! -

I am glad this Azul Beach thread is here because it is annoying going to the Azul Sensatori thread with the 1400 pages looking for information specific to Azul Beach! I am booked for September 2013! We did a group room block for our guests. Thinking about doing a welcome cocktail reception Friday evening at The Wave Lounge, Rehearsal Dinner BBQ on the beach and wedding ceremony on the beach, cocktail hour at Sky Terrace then reception afterwards. I'm not happy either with the two "recommended" photographers. The photos last forever so I want to make sure they are amazing! Also considering bringing in a DJ but worried about paying the $800 outside vendor fee twice. Not fair!
