  1. I feel the same way about wanting to be able to dance! I think that's why I'm leaning towards something more casual. So, I caved in and just purchased a dress from BHLDN. It hasn't come in yet (I wanted it to be here when my cousin comes in). I can return it within 30 days, which is nice. I've been obsessing over it, so I decided that I should at least try it on. http://www.bhldn.com/shop%2Dthe%2Dbride%2Dwedding%2Ddresses/luella%2Dgown If I get something a little more formal, I think a shorter, more casual dress is a great idea!!!! We also just hired a photog! I'm so excited! I can't believe its 9 months away!
  2. I'm using mywedding.com. I'm going dress shopping in a week and a half! My cousin is flying in so we're going together. I'm a bit more of a romantic/whimsical bride, so I love the looks by Watters and Bhldn. We're also checking out Nicole Miller. I think I'm leaning towards something with lace? Not quite sure yet.
  3. That is so funny! haha... Dani, I'm actually in Center City. I moved out here for school and then met my fiance. I never thought I'd stay out on the east coast (always thought I'd be back in california after school), but I guess you can never guess your future. I do like it out here, except for the crazy weather (like right now!). Tyre, funny you're nearby too. We just started creating our website and will be picking out save the dates this week. I feel like there is so much to do! I have to go dress shopping asap too. I may have already asked you guys, but did you guys get a dress yet? I'm having my reception/ceremony at the Sands. We're also staying there. Oh and we decided to have the beach bbq reception!!!! I'm soo excited. Thanks so much for the recommendation. I think it'll be a nice touch. We also narrowed down to two photographers and will be making our decision this week.
  4. Hey girls!!! Sorry, I had a major deadline (this morning), so I've been MIA. But, I'm back. Danie, did you say you were from Philly? I am too! Also, thanks for the posting the pics. I can't wait to go! Both our respective parents are planning an AHR for us. Since all my family is in California and my fiance's family is on the east coast, both our parents decided to host something. We're not a part of the planning though (thank goodness..i don't think i could handle anymore planning). Have you guys sent out save the dates yet? I feel so behind. We're going to have to do it soon!
  5. For some reason some of my posts aren't getting posted! bahh Having a destination wedding just made sense for us because I'm from the west coast and my fiance is from the east coast (and we live on the east coast). There were a few who were a little upset with a destination wedding, but since most would have to travel, they are now excited they get to visit a new place. Dani, thanks for all the info! It's nice to get a little more info from someone who's actually been. Also, where is the grocery store? Or, which resort is it near? I'm trying to get myself a little oriented with Grace Bay Beach. Can't wait to see how are weddings end up! We're very close in dates. TyreBride, when in June are you getting married?
  6. Danie, I'm now thinking of a beach bbq from your recommendations! I emailed my wedding planner about it. It is crazy that the beach bbq is more expensive. I think it's because of the rentals. Also, we have similar colors. I'm doing an aqua/seafoam green/turq with pink, so the bouganvillea (or however you spell it..or pronounce it!) will work. I've only see the really bright pink ones though. I should check if they are a lighter pink. While you did a site visit, what places did you visit? I haven't been to TCI. Did you check out the restaurants? Have any recommendations to make for guests? Tyrebride..lol...you are just as indecisive as me! I'll check out the real flowers.
  7. Tyre, what are real touch flowers? I was thinking of making (or getting made) fabric flower bouquets that look similar like this (but with diff colors) http://www.etsy.com/listing/91416934/wedding-bridal-bouquet-ready-to-ship-in I thought it could be a nice keepsake for my bridal party (and for myself). Still not sure yet though. I was also thinking of asking my mom to make the bouquets when she gets to the island (she's very good and it would be a nice touch), but I'm not sure about getting wholesale flowers or anything like that on the island.
  8. Danie, I've been going back and forth about having my reception on the beach or not. Dancing, having fun and letting loose are priorities for my reception, so I'm trying to figure out which one will be the best way to do that. Are you getting a bad for your rehearsal dinner? All the weddings I've been to that have had bands all ended up being the most fun weddings with lots of dancing. My only problem is that I'm not sure what the bands are like on the island. I also won't be able to make a site visit so we'll see. I feel like a DJ might the safest choice, unless you have any recommendations! Tyrebride, sometimes it's nice having everything already picked out for you. I'm so indecisive, that sometimes having options can be a bad thing . We were originally planning to get married early 2014, but decided to go for May 2013. I feel so behind! I haven't looked at dresses yet. By the way, it seems like flowers are really expensive on the island since they have to import everything. What are you guys doing for flowers?
  9. I'm now thinking of maybe having a beach bbq instead. But, I'm also concerned about dancing because that is one of the things that is a must for me! We're having a catamaran cruise for our guests as well...before our welcome dinner. Danie, what band are you using? Are you using it for your reception or rehearsal dinner? I'm trying to decide if I want a band or DJ. The weddings I've been to that have had a band always resulted in a really fun dance party. But, I'm not sure about the bands in TCI. Tyre, sometimes it's nice having everything already picked out for you. I'm so indecisive so it's making decision-making very difficult!
  10. I was just about to ask that question! I just emailed my wedding planner about whether dancing is conducive during a beach bbq reception. I'll let you know what she says.
  11. Thanks! We went with Island Harmony, but I also heard great things about Nila too .
  12. HI! I'm also a TCI bride for 2013! We're getting married on May 26th. Danie, we are a week apart! So glad there are others! We hired Diane at Island Harmony as our wedding planner and will be having our ceremony at the Sands and then our reception at Mango Reef's outdoor patio. That's about as far as we have gone with our wedding planning. We'll most likely bring our own photographer with us. Looking forward to hearing more about your weddings plans!
  13. Hi everyone, I've been talking to both wedding planning companies. They both seem great. Any thoughts on which one I should go for? Thanks!!!
  14. Hi ShaeShae, I'm in the same boat as you. I am also torn on location. A turks and caicos wedding sounds awesome, but the island does seem a bit more expensive than other DW locations (like riviera maya, which is my 2nd choice). I'm thinking May/June 2013. We were originally thinking Feb 2014, but that seems like the really expensive season in TC. I'm considering Alexandra Resort, but haven't heard much about it. If anyone has any information, please let me know!! Also, does anyone know what the weather is like in may or june? I don't want my guests to roast during the ceremony because I would like to have an outdoor ceremony.
  15. Hi everyone, I've been planning my PDC wedding. We're thinking of having our ceremony at either The Royal or at Gran Porto Real and then thinking of having our reception at Kool Beach Club. Do any of you guys have any information about Kool? I haven't been to PDC, so not sure about distance. How far of a walk is Kool from The Royal or Gran Porto? Will the walk back be safe? I'm a little concerned that my guests, who may or not be intoxicated, wil have to walk back at night. Thanks so much!
  16. I'm finally starting to narrow down resorts and have narrowed it to Barcelo Maya or Gran Porto Real. I'm looking for a resort that have sister resorts to accomodate different budgets. I want to have a simple beach ceremony and hopefully a somewhat private reception with dancing. What do you all think? Which one has a prettier beach and clearer sands? Do you guys have any information on thse two places? Thanks!
  17. Thank you all! You guys made me feel better. We've decided on going for 6 bridesmaids and 3 groomsmen. I've already made personalized cars for each them. Soooooo excited!!!!
  18. Hi everyone, I need your opinion. My fiance came up with 3 groomsmen. I came up with 6 bridesmaids. I'm having a hard time cutting it down to 3. Would it be weird that I have twice as many bridesmaids? I think for the actual ceremony we would just have the bestman and MOH stand up with us. What do you all think?? Thanks!
  19. Thanks, for the info LuckyGal! I've been looking at both the Royal and Gran Porto for the same reasons you gave. Are you having a beach ceremony? Also, why did you choose to have the wedding/reception at the Royal instead of Gran Porto? I was originally looking at Gran Porto...I will have to check out the Royal also! Thanks again! Good luck with the rest of your planning. It's coming soon!
  20. Thanks everyone for your response! My fiance and I have deliberated, and have decided on Riviera Maya for our wedding. We're leaning towards Playa del Carmen. We're hoping to visit sometime in Fall to do a few resort visits. Janette, we would like the resort to be affordable for our guests (and for us), but we want to still have the option of our parents being able to stay at a nearby more luxurious resort. I think there are some resorts that have a luxury sister resort nearby? I'm not too particular about distance from airport as long as it's an easy shuttle (or drive) to the resort. We'd prefer it to be as easy as possible. What is Gran Bahia Coba and Grand Xcaret like? PamelaVan, thanks for all the info! I may take you up on that offer. I would love to see your pictures! LuckyGal4, which venue did you decide on? There are so many!! Thanks everyone again! I'm so excited!
  21. Hi everyone! We just got engaged in Feb and I am now starting to plan our wedding. My family lives in California and my fiance's family lives on the east coast, so we thought having a destination wedding would be perfect. I'm starting to lean towards Mexico as a potential place to get married. A few friends have recommended either Riviera Maya or Puerto Vallarta. I've actually never really been to Mexico and was wondering why all of you chose the Riviera Maya area. I'm trying to get more info! We're planning on visiting one of the potential places to do some site visits, so I'm trying to figure out which one to visit (because I hope that is where we get married!) Thanks so much! And, congrats!!! I'm excited to start planning.
  22. I'm also thinking of getting married at Mahekal (or Barcelo Maya). AlyMay, how was your wedding? I would love any feedback!
