  1. Such creative brides, and beautiful pictures! Can't wait for Del Sol to shoot our wedding in six months (excited scream)!
  2. My budget was $2k, so I was happy I fell in love with one (a La Sposa by Pronovias) that was $1400 after taxes. I did tack on a $300 belt, but it should still come to around $2k when all is said and done!

  4. I rocked the individual extensions on my scouting trip to Mexico this summer just to try them out and see how they held up. They were AWESOME. No need for mascara on the beach, but you can wear it for more drama for the big day. They looked upper natural (but glam) and stayed on great despite swimming in the ocean, etc. I paid $125 for mine in Denver, which lasted three weeks and took about 3 hrs. Fills are only $75 if you wanna keep them going after.
  5. Ladies whose guys did linen shirts, did they wrinkle like crazy? Also, I relly prefer the look of long sleeve shirts for pictures but am getting grief from the fathers- thoughts? Those who did long sleeves, were they ok just rolling them up after pictures?
  6. These are mine: http://www.shopjoielle.com/product/dessy-collection-bridesmaid-dress-style-2856/, but in the orangey-pink "flame" color. The idea is they're cotton, so hopefully they'll be light and comfortable, and everyone says this, but I really think they can wear them again
  7. My mom's dress is similar to your mom's from BR- she was worried it might be too casual for the occasion, but I'm all for it! The wedding party is wearing cotton dresses and khakis/white shirts, so it will all be casual. Plus it will be HOT!
  8. Hi Rocio, It is true that $300 per person is the max (not counting personal effects, wedding dress, etc.), if you don't want to pay duty/customs. You can bring in more, but it gets pricey fast. (And yes, it is to prevent people from bringing in goods to sell in Mexico tax-free). Reciepts will guarantee you don't have to pay fess for anything under $300. Not sure about the China Q or your personalized items. Check this link out for more thorough info: http://www.underwatercolours.com/mexican_customs.html. This is only if you get searched Hope that helps a little!
  9. I just got back from a pre-wedding tasting at the Royal and the beef was awesome. Did not try the chicken, but did try the salmon and the jumbalaya shrimp - both were great, but we are going with the beef and the shrimp! I think as long as you have a beef option and a safe other option (menting nothing too crazy - ie chicken or shrimp would both be "safe" IMO, you'll be fine.
  10. Yes, per person, so if you offload to your FI and some friends, you should be fine! Bring reciepts for stuff if you have them just in case you get searched and need to prove the value!
  11. This was SO helpful - thank you so much, and have fun at your wedding!!!! (And if you have any helpful new advice - or things you didnt think of before that would be good to know - after, please let me know!)
  12. I am a worrier too! You and I sound like we are cut from the same A-type cloth! Shipping to Mexico is pretty pricey. Some airlines (United for sure, but not AirTran - not sure about the others) allow you to have one free checked bag if you fly international. I am checking my stuff I think, and relying on my lovely bridesmaids to help carry stuff through (I'll pay the baggage fees of course). The only thing to keep in mind is customs. If you ship to Mexico, you may have to pay customs fees as well. If you bring them with you in luggage, you can only bring $300 in goods (outside of clothing and personal effects) per person (if you get caught that is) without having to pay customs fees.
  13. I purchased the maracas at this site: http://www.amols.com/catalog/traditional-maracas-pair but also found them here later: http://all4fun.makesparties.com/Catalog.aspx?intDisplayableProductID=55387&intDisplayableCategoryID=2977 I am going to check them through in my luggage. Depending on where you are getting married though, you may be better off buying them there. I ordered mine because I thought it would be a lot cheaper, but am getting married in Playa Del Carmen (and just got back from there where I scoped out the local stores) and think you could haggle your way down to $2-3 a peice if you bought a bunch of them with a local vendor, saving you the trouble of transporting. With everything else I have to bring, I am kind of wishing I went that route (plus you can only bring $300 worth of goods into Mexico with you per person - not including clothing and personal effects, so I may have to recruit bridesmaids to help!). The tags are just printed on shiny cardstock and then punched out with a punch I found at Michaels!
  14. I get the same reaction, but I figure, hey, I have 7 months to do all this crafting, so might as well! Good luck with yours! And post some of your ideas when you make them!
  15. Here are a few sites for maracas! http://www.amols.com/catalog/traditional-maracas-pair http://all4fun.makesparties.com/Catalog.aspx?intDisplayableProductID=55387&intDisplayableCategoryID=2977 The poem says: Instead of tapping on your glass, here’s a system with Mexican class: Stand and shake with all your might, to see the groom kiss his bride tonight! Hope that helps!
  16. I was anti using a TA to begin with (partially because I ALWAYS book my own and family's travel so I think I have a good handle on it, and partially because I am a control freak) but decided to go with it and now SO glad I did. My TA, who I found online and specializes in destination weddings, was able to book everyone through a tour company, which saved big bucks compared to what I found online - on airfare, rooms and transport (like $700 per couple)! Also, as part of the tour company, we get a $50 credit back in cash for every person who books a room for our wedding! It should be over $1000 we'll then get to put towards our own travel! Another plus, I am having 75 guests at my wedding, in Mexico, many of whom are elderly, don't travel a lot and don't go online much. The thought of getting calls from half of them asking me what the best option was, how to book, when to book - it would have driven me over the edge. All I have to do now is tell them to call the TA.She also lets me know as soon as people book, so I have an accurate running list of who is really coming, and don’t have to hound them. As far as her role in planning the wedding, she got the rates and booked my wedding package and the group’s travel, but I handle the rest. She would be more involved if I wanted her to be, but I prefer to talk to the resort directly instead of playing telephone through someone else. I only decided to even look into a TA when I found my resort difficult to work with on my own to book a discounted group block, but am super glad I did.
  17. Instead of bells or classes clinking, I decided I am going to outfit each table with maracas. They all have a tag on them with a poem about shaking them to see the bride and groom kiss: That's all I have so far, but I have lots more to come. (Now I just have to figure out how the heck to get it all to Mexico!)
