  1. We were originally going to do a chalkboard + polaroid and have guests write a message on the chalkboard then take a pic of them holding it, but now I think we're going with the time capsule idea. I've seen kits on Etsy that seem expensive for what they are, so I'm making my own. Here's a pic for reference: I still love the polaroid idea though and might bring one to get fun shots of all our guests during the wedding weekend for a scrapbook later.
  2. We haven't decided on anything yet, but my FI is only particular about a few aspects of the wedding: music, food, and what he wears. I'm leaving this up to him (I get veto rights of course!) It'll probably be something short as he hates attention and won't want to be up there too long. Haha.
  3. Soooo rude. And I would never think of doing that to anyone, especially someone I considered to be a friend! It takes like a minute to check a box and drop it in the mail.
  4. Just curious if any brides out there have input on this one. Best advice I've gotten: I know it's cliche but so far the best advice I've gotten has been to just enjoy it. It goes so fast (I have only a couple more months to go) so I'm trying to make it as fun and stress-free as possible (also why I chose a DW!) Best advice I could give: based on my planning thus far, I'd say don't bother putting postage on your RSVP cards. I took the time to pre-address and stamp them, and some people are still too lazy to drop them in the mail. I don't get it. I think it's rude. And that was a waste of money for me! Any other good nuggets out there? Or anything specific to a DW that you've learned and can share? Let's hear it!
  5. Hello! Congrats and welcome! I do think it is doable, but it will definitely be a fast turnaround on everything! As for cost and location, that'll depend on where you/most of your guests live. If you're on the west coast, Mexico might be a good affordable option and within your $10k-$15k budget. If you're on the east, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, the Bahamas, etc. would be more affordable. I would recommend settling the date and location ASAP so you can notify people and send invitations and give them as much time to save as possible. And in terms of who you invite, other brides/wedding planners have mentioned that you should expect about 30% of the invited guests to come. You know your friends and family best though and how many would actually go, so just user your judgment in deciding how many you can safely invite without breaking your budget. Good luck!
  6. Hi there and welcome! A lot of brides like the sites on mywedding.com, weddingwire.com and weddingwindow.com and all of those sites offer plenty of templates! I used a new site called modwedding that's in beta now. I liked their clean and simple layouts. I'm boring. Haha. Here's my site if you want to see how it worked out: http://alexisandjoseph.modwedding.com/ But there are so many options you really can't go wrong! Just depends on your preference and if you're looking for any specific features (for instance some let you upload songs, some don't. etc.) There are lots of threads on this topic: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/newsearch/?search=wedding+website&resultSortingPreference=relevance&type=all Good luck!
  7. I just found a new fun site. It's like Pinterest, but only for weddings! You can search for things like "cake" or "bouquets" or "beach wedding dresses" and it pulls up an inspiration board and you can save your favorites. http://lover.ly/
  8. I vote for Marymack too! She's been super active in the forums and very helpful!
  9. Welcome to you both! I just went on my first cruise last summer and it was so much fun. I can only imagine how great a cruise wedding will be! I'm sure your guests will love it. Good luck as you plan!
  10. Welcome Keri! It can definitely be overwhelming at first, but once you have the big things like a date and a location nailed down it becomes really fun! Good luck to you!!
  11. They are from TheKnot.com http://weddingshop.theknot.com/coral-place-card-holders.aspx Super cute, and I've noticed they have a few other beachy-themed items for favors and decor. Check it out!
  12. BDW staffer Alyssa is headed to Hawaii soon to check out Turtle Bay. If you have any questions on Turtle Bay/Hawaii options, she posted something asking any Hawaii brides to shoot their questions to her, so give that a try! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/84200/bdw-is-heading-to-oahu Good luck!
  13. What she said! Definitely put the mother in law off on your fiance and have him be the bad guy. I'm sure she is aware that you are on a budget and have invited select people for a reason, so it's rude of her to ask you to invite people you don't even know! And we had this issue too of someone wanting to bring their sister. So far it just seems like one uninvited guest, so we're just dealing with it. But I don't think it would be weird for you to tell your friend you're really excited she and her friend are coming, but you'd like to keep the actual wedding ceremony/reception to just invited guests and you're more than happy for her guest to join in on other group activities during the weekend (aka the ones where you don't have to pay for her! haha).
  14. Congrats on finding the one! Or three! Love the back of that Vera!!
