  1. OMG today is your wedding day!!! Hope it is/was amazing! Can't wait to hear about it and see pics! (Fellow Secrets bride here.)
  2. I think you may already have bottle openers if I'm remembering correctly, but just saw these and thought of you! Too cute! http://www.newfavors.com/index.php?l=product_detail&p=585
  3. LOVE that cake topper! Mostly cause I am obsessed with the blue topped buildings in Greece. So fun!!
  4. It's no secret that we brides love Etsy and often use it for DIY inspiration. When I saw some of their cute felt cake toppers I decided to try my hand at making my own. Note: I was attempting this project to see if I liked it, so I made this one very quickly as a test. I plan to re-do a final version a bit more meticulously now that I've decided it's a keeper! The Inspiration: The Supplies: - Swatches of felt in wedding colors (.50 each at Michael's) - Baker's twine to string the letters (or the thread/ribbon/string of your choice) - Skewers to attach everything to and insert into the cake (or you could try it with cute striped paper straws!) - Scissors Note: needles are also pictured, but since my letters were small I found that when I threaded the needle and pulled it through the felt it tore. I abandoned that plan and ultimately glued the letters directly to the baker's twine with tacky glue. Instructions: 1. Draw block letters onto the felt in your desired phrase and size and cut out. 2. Cut out a length of twine/thread/ribbon. 3. Using tacky glue or your desired attachment method (a needle and thread may work on larger letters), string the letters along the thread. 4. Tie the ends to skewers or paper straws and cut off the excess. 5. Done! A cute, custom cake topper in about 20 minutes! Cut out Letters Finished product: And for fun, here's a badly PhotoShopped version to give an idea of how it will look on a cake: What do you guys think? Has anyone else tried their hand at making a custom cake topper? I'd love to see other ideas! UPDATE: Here's the finished topper in action on the wedding day! (It's blowing in the wind so the second "D" looks a little wonky.)
  5. And you probably caught this when you were fixing the f in officially, but I just noticed it was missing the i too. It said "ofically." Still love these!
  6. We had to get everything notarized here first and then send (you have to send it 2 months in advance) and then they send it to the minister. I'd send all the docs at the same time they reach out to you for your final choices.
  7. - Notarized copies of the Bride & Groom birth certificate - Notarized copies of Bride & Groom official ID ( Passports) - Notarized copies of Divorce decrees or death certificates (if applicable - Notarized copies of any name change documents, e.g. as Adoption papers (if applicable) The passport notarization wasn't an issue-- they did it along with all the other docs. No questions asked!
  8. This is what I'm afraid of. I sent one Fed-Ex envelope to the WC with our notarized docs for the legal marriage and it cost $55 to ship from California. I'm scared what a big box of decorations will cost, but I also don't want to deal with schlepping extra luggage through the airport and customs. I asked the Secrets wedding team about shipping things ahead and they said it's fine but they advise checking with DHL or Fed-Ex first. I guess some brides have had their items help up at customs and had to pay a duty for them. Yes, $350 covers both the single steel drummer at the ceremony and the band for cocktail hour.
  9. Did anyone ship their decorations ahead of time, or is everyone planning to bring it with them in additional luggage?
  10. We're doing a solo steel drummer during the ceremony and then a steel drum band for cocktail hour. That will be $350. And then we'll have a DJ for the reception. I think that's $750 ($250/hr). I was considering the iPod plan but just decided to go for it with the DJ. Hopefully he's good/sticks to our list of suggested songs!
  11. Yep, that is the idea! People write a message on the chalkboard, then someone takes a pic of them holding it and all the photos go in a guest book after the wedding/vacation!
  12. We weren't going to pay for guests who chose to stay elsewhere but when I had to submit our guest list/count to the resort, they asked for how many were not staying on the property. We will have 2, so they added the $80 day pass fee per person to our other wedding costs. I guess we will end up paying for them after all since there's not really a nice way to say "hey we had to pay another $160 for you, so pay us back." I thought there would be a way for them to pay when they showed up. Guess not!
  13. Hi and welcome! There's a bit more activity over on this Secrets thread where we've shared some of our experiences with planning and other fun things. Check it out! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/79828/secrets-st-james-wild-orchid-weddings-2012-2013
  14. I'm only having a MOH and we are doing a spa day just the two of us in a few weeks. Even though my wedding isn't until April I decided I'll give her her gift then since she wanted to gift me the spa day before the wedding to relax. So I'm giving her: - MOH shirt http://shop.weddingchicks.com/blushing-hearts-bridal-party-tank-top/ - bottle of her favorite wine - necklace with her initial and birthstone (doesn't have to wear it on the wedding day, but she can) - a gift certificate for a mani/pedi at our favorite nail place I also paid for her dress that she'll be wearing at the wedding. The idea is that she's done so much for me and has been helping me/focusing on me a lot during the wedding prep I wanted to give her something that would be all about her. Hope she likes it!
