  1. To Jreist: Wow! Love all the goodies that you've compiled - your guests are going to love you! Question: I looked into the travel mugs and the price is great from Factory 21. How much did you have to pay in taxes and duties when they were delivered?
  2. We just got the groom's tan linen suit for the from Studio Suits two days ago - he's happy with it. I think it looks really good! He's going to wear a brown belt, white shirt and we are looking for a skinny cotton tie that will go with the coral MOH dress. Now we are going to order one for the BM too - don't know if I will have him wear the jacket yet or not but at least he will have it. For shoes I would check "little burgundy" online. We got two pair of light brown canvas shoes for the groom and BM at 50% off a few weeks ago and I paid only $65 for both. They have cool brands that guys like. It' s good time of year for online shopping because PayPal is giving 5% cash back on all your purchases after the first one. Studio Suits uses paypal so you could save a lot if you are ordering multiple suits.
  3. I am also working on a list of people that will need tipping. So far I'm thinking: - wedding co-ordinator(s) at the resort - the DJ - the hairstylist and make-up artist - the bartender(s) at reception - waiters at reception .......How much money is appropriate? I'm going to bring a few thank you cards with me to place the tip in. You also don't want to forget about the everyday tipping for maids, waiters and bartenders!
  4. I REALLY like your website!! It's great. I asked myself the same question about registering for gifts and my initial reaction was a definite "NO" but........then my maid of honour encouraged me to register - because she will be throwing me a shower. And really, I've been to 2 destination weddings and we have always given shower gifts and a wedding gift. People will want to buy you something so it might as well be something that you already want. Don't feel guilty. I didn't start my registry until my wedding was 6 months away. I still haven't added the info to our wedding website because I don't have the registry completed. You have enough to worry about at initial planning stages and will enjoy something to do that it wedding related in a few months when things quiet down. Hope this helps.
  5. I booked our week at El Dorado Maroma through our "Exotic Travelers" membership (the vacation club for the Azuls and El Dorados in the Mayan Riviera). But, I don't think you'd get a discount from Karisma. We were not given a discounted price when I got a quote from my TA. I really wanted to honeymoon at El Dorado Casitas but it was more expensive
  6. We are going to El Dorado Maroma for a week of R&R/"we" time after our wedding week at AS. It is a smaller, adults only resort and Maroma beach is supposed to be excellent!
  7. Here is the invitation that we sent out. Simple. The entire suite looked like this. I ordered from Wedding Paper Divas. They were great to work with.
  8. I used "weddingwire". It also lets me keep track of budget, guests, gifts, etc. I've really liked it. Free, of course!
  9. I've decided to make a photobook guest book. I want it to be fairly simple with black and white photos on white paper with lots of space for guests to sign around the photos. It's just going to have pics of us over the years, pics of the resort, engagement photos, some artsy-type pics like the ones you see on pinterest. I drug my FI to the beach last week to draw our initials in the sand, etc. He was a good sport! I'm making it with Shutterfly. It takes a while to put together but I think it is a nice personal touch and something we will enjoy looking at for years to come. I just bought "ultra fine" black Sharpies instead of a fancy pen. Sometimes regular pens don't write very well on glossy paper. I made a guest book sign on card stock that I'm going to frame and place on the table too. I looked at having one made by an Etsy seller, but spent the time yesterday and downloaded cool fonts from "dafont" and made it myself - looks nice!
  10. These are the invitations I ended up going with from WeddingPaperDivas. This one is shown on their website in chocolate brown but they printed it on white paper for me. The invitation and enclosure card are printed on the pearl shimmer paper and I should have done that for the RSVP card as well but at the time I didn't want to spend the 10 cents extra per card for something that would just be returned to me. The large envelope has a shimmer liner as well that I really like. I sent them out a few months ago and have gotten lots of compliments on them!!
  11. Thanks for the advice Murmel and JennyBenz. My Aunt and Cousin booked their trip! Originally, their TA had asked for adults only section - of course there won't be rooms with 2 beds. Up to 30 guests now!
  12. Thanks for the advice on this Murmel and JennyBenz. I reassured my aunt and cousin last week that everything would work out with getting 2 double beds and they booked yesterday! Now I am up to 30 guests for my March 21st 2013 wedding! Only 6 months to go. What I am working on now: - photobook to use as a guest book (probably going with a shutterfly book) - making a list of engagement photos we should take to add to our photobook (lots of ideas on pinterest) - ordering my FI a suit from StudioSuits (I already have the swatches and we are probably going with the Hawaiian light beige) - looking through etsy for jewellry, menus, clutches, escort cards, gifts for wedding party and parents - researching how to get a pair of Angela Nuran shoes to Nova Scotia - searching the web for Kate Spades "imani" pearl and crystal flat sandals (sz8.5) to wear during the beach ceremony I'm feeling that there is not much to do at this point as I wait for RSVPs to come in. I suppose most of the work will need to be done when I have the final head count and that probably won't be until January. I hope that the planning is going well for all the other AS brides out there.
  13. Hi Ladies, My Aunt and Cousin are not sure if they are going to come to my wedding anymore because they cannot be guaranteed 2 beds in their room. Any advice??
  14. kary I knew about the sunset catamarans from previous brides on this forum. I think I will be booking the cruise through Lomas (you can look at this on their website under "tours"). I haven't contacted them yet because I don't have firm numbers for our wedding. From the website it looks like they charge $87 per person which includes dinner. I'm hoping to arrange it without the dinner and have seen people on this forum mention that they have gotten it for $54 per person. I'll keep you up-to-date when I get more info. Sarah
  15. I just found out yesterday that Erika is now my WC because Amanda is leaving the company. I found Amanda to be great - always very thorough in her responses and my details sheet is impeccable. Hopefully, things will be smooth with Erika. To be honest, I'm pretty easy going though! And I've been taking past brides advice when they say that all the small details get worked out when you arrive and meet with your on-site WC. On another note......being from Canada and using Canadian dollars to pay for this wedding I was thinking of putting a couple of thousand dollars on our account because our dollar is now strong compared to the US dollar (and my father just gave us a nice cheque to help with the expenses). Has anyone paid early before? Does this seem like a good or bad idea? Also.......for past brides............we'd like to do a catamaran sunset cruise from Maroma beach instead of a formal meet-and-greet dinner. On the cruise there will be appies and bar, but what about our guests having dinner? Should I just suggest that they have a late dinner at the resort once we get back - or grab an early dinner before we leave. I do see that you can have a dinner on the beach at the end of the cruise but that doesn't seem appropriate for a larger group. Any suggestions? Another thing......I sent out our invitations last week. I will try to upload a pic because I love them so much! And since I'm on a roll........I've decided to do my own wedding day make-up and have been practicing with all my new products from Sephora (getting pretty good) also on youtube I've been watching tutorials by MissChievious. A couple of tips that many of you probably know: SPF and mineral makeup reflect light in photos so avoid these. Use a brush to apply your foundation - it goes on so smooth and natural looking. Also, I am definitely getting lash extensions applied before going to mexico - no mascara needed! Okay I'm done!
  16. I've also been using Wedding Paper Divas. Ordered the free samples - I agree that the envelopes are nothing special.....I was surprised when I put in my order for invites yesterday and they now offer a shimmer lining in the envelope which is so much better! I've also been taking advantage of some of the daily specials that come up. A few weeks ago I was able to order address labels at 50% off. So I ordered some for thank you cards and our invites. If you get the return address printed on each envelope it cost .31 cents, but it was about half of that with the deal on the labels - and they are really cute. Pink hibiscus flowers! I'm really impressed with how quickly things arrive and with the customer service.
  17. Yes, I ordered the stamps online from the Canada Post website. It was very easy to do.
