  1. I'm having a table at the front where the escort cards are displayed with each guests name and table # - they will each be attached to a maraca with string. Got this idea from Martha Stewart website. I have a large sign for the entry table (below). They will then go to their table and find a seat (not assigned). I've decided to wait on final table assignment until we get to Mexico (just need to print #'s on each escort card once there). Our guests will have a few days to get to know each other before the wedding so then I can seat people together who are getting along well! This is the sign I made (etsy inspired) with cut outs taken from our extra wedding invitations.
  2. I purchased paper lanterns from JustArtifacts. I ordered 28 total and the shipping was expensive at about $30. The total bill was $78 but it was delivered to our house with no additional duties and I didn't have to spend hours searching in the stores. Ha, ha, at MIchael's today I saw one lantern for $7.99! I've ordered the components from ebay to make the LED throwies to put in them. I haven't received them yet but they are coming from China, super cheap with no shipping charges. Batteries and lights will be less than $10. There is a great thread on here somewhere about this topic. That's how I got the idea. It's a very long thread but I plan on reading it over carefully again before I assemble the led lights because there are some very good tips from other brides.
  3. I was debating this very thing when we first booked. Ultimately, we decided to be closer to our guests and booked a swim-up in the middle section of the resort where our parents are staying along with about 10 other guests. This being said, we have a second week booked at El Dorado Maroma in the premium section so we will have lots of honeymoon time. The adults swim-up section will be a very convenient location for your guests to visit but you probably won't have as much privacy being on the ground floor. We stayed on the 3rd floor of the adults section last year and it was super private on the balcony and the ocean view was really nice to have. I know the premium section has amazing service but unfortunately, you may not be able to enjoy the benefits that go along with a premium room (ie, your own pool with better butler service, beach beds...) if you will want to be near your guests during the day because they would not be allowed in that section anyway. I hope this helps and doesn't confuse you more!
  4. We are also doing a welcome catamaran cruise as a gift and then just having maracas attached to escort cards that double as favours.
  5. My maid of honour dress is also Dessy "firecracker" in lux chiffon. Everyone thought the colour choice was great!
  6. Ha! I think so. We are having the ceremony on the beach at 5pm with the reception at Zocalo Al Fresco. DJ and photographer booked. We have a group of 35 people! I'm trying to keep it simple. I love this resort - we were engaged there March 31st 2012. They really treated us well. When they heard of our engagement our room was decorated with rose petals, our jacuzzi was filled and champagne was waiting on ice. How could we not return with our friends and family to get married! How is your planning going?
  7. Any advice from brides who have booked package from Signature Vacations?? I just found out from our TA that our Sunwing departure flight has been rescheduled and will be leaving 8 hrs later!! This means we will be missing the entire first day at the resort because we were supposed to be in Cancun at 9am and now it's 7:30pm. I have a lot of unhappy guests at this point and apparently there is nothing that can be done about it. No financial compensation has been offered at all. We are also doing a legal ceremony and will barely be in the country long enough for the requirements. This package deal was booked through Signature vacations and my TA sold it on the fact that we get an extra day - now we don't and people are unhappy.
  8. Here is a picture of the DIY pre-wedding mail out. My mom spent hours making the luggage tags! - luggage tags - rehearsal dinner invitation included for some guests - schedule of the week for all guests So happy to have this project completed and sent in the mail yesterday!
  9. I've debated the shoe issue for a long time now! I originally thought about sandals for the beach ceremony and obsessed over these shoes - finally bought them on ebay. Then I started obsessing over having a comfortable heel and really wanted to try Angela Nuran bridal shoes which I can't get where I live. So I ordered these little cuties from Mod Cloth as my back-up shoes. They were on sale for something like $35. Over the Christmas break my FI and I took a trip to Boston where I was able to get the Angela Nuran shoes that I had been coveting for so long. It was a splurge! I'm hoping to wear them for the ceremony and reception. There's something about wearing high heels that just makes everything better!
  10. We had been looking for a coral tie for the groom for a long time. Probably looked in about 30 stores over the past few months and online. There is nothing. We wanted to match the Pantone colour firecracker that is the maid of honours dress colour. Finally ended up going with a retro navy and white cotton tie that we bought at JosBank for $5! He really likes it and it will look good in photos against his tan linen Studio Suit. We are waiting for the best man's matching tan linen suit to arrive. He's going to have on the same white shirt as groom with an open collar and no tie. We found white no-iron french cuff shirts at Banana Republic outlet last week on sale for $50 each. I think the ensemble is finally complete!
  11. Hi Everyone Now it is full wedding planning mode since the holidays are behind us and we are less than 10 weeks away! So here's a little bit of what I've been working on. - booked a catamaran welcome cruise thru Lomas Travel. Sunset cruise, with bar and hor d'eourves. Approx, 1.5 hr. Back at the resort by 7:30pm. Cost is $60/person. My parents are hosting this. - booked a rehearsal dinner at Spoon for the night before the wedding. Wedding party and immediate family invited. Technically, hosted by groom's parents but is not costing anything as this is included in the wedding package. I think they might order special wine or have extra flowers on the table. - made my own rehearsal dinner invitations and wedding week itinerary that I will be mailing out next week to our confirmed guests along with fabric luggage tags that my Mom is working on. I've had people asking me what the plans were during the week, so now they will know and hopefully, get excited! - ordered the best man's linen suit from Studio Suits - ordered 30 white paper lanterns (from JustArtifacts) for ceiling of Zocalo Al Fresco - need to find LED lights for in them. I've heard that this location is fairly dark for pictures. - re-confirmed photographer from Caribe Still need to: - print out numbers for the white frames I have to go on the tables - handwrite names on escort cards - get copies of passports from our 4 witnesses to send in for legal ceremony - organize ipod playlist for ceremony music I plan on posting pictures of DIY projects when they are completed. Happy planning to all of you!!
  12. We are having our reception on the terrace of the Mexican restaurant (called Zocalo Al Fresco). It is located near the beach (which is where our ceremony will be) and the tradewinds should keep it cool. I really liked the look of the open poolside gazebo but when we were at the resort earlier this year I found that area to be quite warm and I know my father would appreciate more of a breeze.
