  1. Ok so I got only two photos back from her. One from each location. They are not the greatest and it's hard to get a feel because I feel like they look similar. I think I'm going to check out their location on a resort map too. Parrot's Bar Wet Bar
  2. Your brother should definitely do it!!! That would be so sweet and meaningful. You go girl, fight the power!!! Honestly, it is too much of a worry to do the legal bits in Mexico. I've heard there is a lot more involved. You are doing the "stress free" option, which is how weddings should be
  3. When do you leave?! It won't be long now. Can't wait to see some pictures! So exciting!
  4. I'm so glad you started this thread. I actually emailed the coordinator today asking this very question. If I get any valuable information from her I will let you know. Hopefully someone posts some pictures from their own wedding though!
  5. I'm also doing a symbolic ceremony and I have decided not to tell anyone other than my parents and my bridesmaids. I think that no matter how much time you give the officiant to rehearse your script their accent will still be evident. I do think that as long as they use a microphone and speak at a good pace there should be no problems. Remember they do this all of the time. I don't think you should pay extra. Is there anyone from coming along that could perform the ceremony? I've heard of people doing this as well. I personally don't want my guests thinking ... "they are already married" so that's why I'm not telling them.
  6. Don't fret!!! You have so much time now. The important decisions have been made. You just need to let people know about the date so they can start saving/thinking about using vacation time. Are you going to put the link to your website on your save-the-dates? You can get some info (destination, date, etc.) to your guests that way before sending out your "official invites". Engagement photos are fun. We had some good laughs during ours. Are you having them done professionally or having a friend take some?
  7. We are in the same position. Our wedding will be at 1:00pm, dinner at 6:30. I have no idea what I want to do with time in between. I am still hoping for a later ceremony time, even if it means changing the day of the ceremony, as long as it falls within the time we are there. Do you have any ideas? I have heard of people changing and going back to the pool/beach for the afternoon then changing again ... it's an option. Someone suggested getting a white bikini that said "just married" lol I also don't want the party to get started too early and have everyone smashed before dinner even starts ... Eek! I could see this happening.
  8. I'm using a TA for everything. We use Marlin Travel. There is no deposit to book a date, weird ... I know. A dinner in one of the a la carte restuarants is free. They make a big long table for you and your guests and try to give a little bit of privacy. Then you can go to the disco when it opens at 11. Or pay extra to have a private area to have drinks/dance until 11.
  9. My ceremony is at 1:00pm and reception not until 6:30. This is not my first choice. I really wanted it to be later in the day, but that is not an option. Anyone have any insight on timelines for this scenerio? It would be helpful. Not sure what to do with the time inbetween! Don't want "the party" starting too early!
  10. Yeah, hopefully you will have some luck. Just tell them whether you are doing Civil or Symbolic ceremony and the dates you will be there. They will send you back any open time slots. Then you need to decide on a dinner venue and get that booked (if you are having one). Lots of decisions to make right up front!
  11. I would go to Dominican over Mexico any day ... for a number of reasons. I've been to both as well as Jamaica, which is my favourite, but it's too expensive for me to expect my guests to attend. So we are going to Punta Cana (my second choice ) )
  12. Definitely no harm. My suggestion would be to lock down the week you want to go ... and email the resort to select the wedding ceremony date and time. We booked a week ago for next May 2013 and I had VERY little to choose from!!! It was stressful. I was naive to think that we would have no problems. You can go to their website to get contact info and you will receive a whole bunch of wedding information from them. All about packages .... and other rates.
  13. That is such a relief ... I know the feeling. Our trips will overlap. We will be there from May 5th-May 12th
  14. I'm glad things are starting to roll along. Yes, it's hard to coordinate your first choices for each event and have them work out on the same day! I want to do a reception after our dinner at the See and Sea too. I definitely want to be outside ... and as low cost as possible. I'm definitely not paying for a DJ. I'm getting guests to request songs when they RSVP and then making up my own playlist and using an ipod. We have had numerous "dance parties" in this fashion and have always had a blast! We can go to the disco afterwards ... they have a DJ.
  15. Yes, we did We ended up taking the 1:00pm ... hoping that it might change to a later time closer to the date!
  16. I've decided on ME in May 2013 as well. I have been in contact with the coordinator a few times to pick my wedding date. They usually take anywhere from 1-3 days to respond ... this is what I found. Definitely inquire about all of the dates and times they have available. They have a certain number of spots open for both the symbolic and civil ceremonies. May seems to be a popular month at this resort! Good luck! Let us know when you have some success in booking I'm getting married on May 9th.
  17. Hi Chrystine, That does sound right. The reception does not include a DJ ($600). For a sound system it costs ($250+16%). I can send you all of the additional costs if you like. Just let me know your email address!
  18. SO pretty! I'm looking for something along this lines too. Light, flowey, heart shaped neckline and strapless! Reallllllly love this one
  19. You could go watch the evening show. Or there is always live music at a few locations with bars near by!
  20. That would be fantastic! Yes, if you could get in touch with us with pictures and a run down of your reception that would be so helpful. Thanks
  21. Hi Kristen! Congrats on the engagement! I have made my way around the Caribbean and I would suggest choosing somewhere more affordable than Jamaica. It's quite pricey - beautiful, yes! Next to Jamaica I would pick Dominican Republic (Punta Cana). They have amazing beaches ... it's beautiful, and prices are much more reasonable. Are you looking at choosing a five star resort? My next choice would be Mexico, then Cuba. These are also affordable. Everywhere else is reaaaally expensive!
  22. These are super cute!!! I like how they have the sea horse design too!
  23. Try H&M, Marciano, Mendocino, Winners
