Since the day we met, my fiance and I have gone on vacation every year for the past 6 years. It had become our annual ritual that each year around his birthday we go on vacation together. This particular year (2012) we decided that we were finally going to see the other side of the world. It has always been a dream of ours to travel to Europe and visit different countries within Europe. After a few months of planning we decided that we were going to visit Venice, Rome, Paris and Barcelona. A few months before the trip Garth was acting really weird towards me. We started arguing a lot about the future of our relationship and where it was heading. The tension between us grew stronger and stronger and I couldn't understand where it was coming from. I had decided that once the trip was over we would have to re-evaluate our relationship.
April 18, 2012 finally arrived and we were off to Europe. Our first stop was Venice, where we walked the narrow streets of Italy and ate lots of delicious Gelato. Next, we traveled to the beautiful city of Rome where we took pictures in front of the Trevi fountain and tour the walls of the Colosseum. We then flew over to Paris to visit the famous Eiffel Tower and the artistic Louvre Museum. While in Paris we decided to fly over to Barcelona and celebrate Garth 33rd Birthday. We spent the night enjoying the Night life and the next day touring the beautiful city of Barcelona. Towards the end of our trip, Garth suddenly became ill and we had no choice but to cut our adventure short. We had originally planned to rush back to the Eiffel Tower from the airport and head to the top to see the spectacular view of Paris. Unfortunately with Garth being ill and the train system shutting down we were unable to end our trip off with a BANG, or so I thought.
When we finally arrived back to our hotel after many hours, I was angry and frustrated of how our last night was ending. Garth still sick took off his clothes and laid in bed while I grabbed my Ipad and factime my family as I did every night during the trip. As I'm talking to my mom and sister, Garth gets out of the bed and walk to the night stand to search for something in his coat pocket. When I looked up he smiled and went back to bed to lay down. I thought to myself "what is wrong with him and why is he acting so weird". I immediately ignored him and continue talking to my mom and sister telling them how my day went. Garth then gets up again and go back to the night stand to fumble in his coat pocket again and this time I didn't bother to look up. I continue my conversation until I noticed he walked and stood right in front of me. He got down on his knees and waved hello to my mom and sister on the video chat. I continue talking to my mom and sister while Garth was on his knees in front of me hugging me. I asked him if he was ok and he said yes and gave me a big smile. He looked me in my eyes and told me he loved me and pulled out a little black box and asked me to be his wife. I was in such of a shock that I dropped the ipad and grab the ring totally ignoring my conversation with my family. I heard my sister yelling at my mom telling her "He is doing it right now". I put the ring on and I said "YES". I looked at Garth and punched him on his arm screaming "Did you have my ring all this time and didnt give it to me? ha ha ha".
I found out later on that Garth had planned on asking me to marry him that night on top of the Eiffel Tower but once he got sick, everything had changed. Apparently everyone knew he was going to ask me to marry him and was standing by to hear the good news. When my mom and sister realize I was upset on the last night, they thought Garth had changed his mind and was't going through with the proposal. When Garth realize his time was running out he decided that he would wait until im chatting with my family and propose to me then. This way my family can witness the special moment. Apparently the reason why Garth had been acting so weird for the last couple of months was because he was planning on asking me to marry him and deciding the perfect moment. Well I am happy to say it was a perfect moment and Paris indeed will forever be the city of love in my eyes.
