We did passports as our invites. I love the idea of MIB, and having them as the welcome letter may be the way to go so I can get the best of both worlds

Congratulations, and welcome! Acapuclo sounds dreamy! And to already have family at the destination is a bonus. Wish you all the best in planning

Our main color is aqua. I'm still debating on our accent color- leaning towards cranberry

Welcome!
My close friend had her wedding at the xcaret last june and it was a sensational time. She chose the gazebo as her wedding spot and it was beautiful. After the wedding, we had the champagne toast then went beside the gazebo which overlooked the lagoon and took group pics. The lagoon was lovely, very private, and my FI and I brought snorkel gear and there was quite a lot of fish to see. We went for walks along the grounds and the ruins were nice, but I think the picture looks nicer than what it really is. Perhaps I'm biased to the gazebo because that's what I've seen. The only thing my friend said she would do differently is the walkway up to the gazebo is all rocks, and she, along with her BM's had a hard time navigating on the loose stones with heels. I would recommend that if you do select the gazebo to request that you are married closer to the front of the gazebo entrance instead of placing the wedding table in the middle/towards the back of the gazebo. It will help with your pictures so you get a little bit more natural light and your guests can see you better.
Happy planning

Agreed! I thought the packages they offered were unrealistic for what we wanted, and after hearing the reviews, I knew I wasn't going to use their services. My FI and I are going to be paying for two nights accomodation, and we will be using the room for him the night before the wedding, and the next night for our photographer so the day after the wedding we can do our TTD

We booked at the Barcelo Maya Tropical. We have done some research on our own, and a lot of the information was provided by our TA. The Barcelo complex is comprised of 5 hotels: Palace Deluxe, Tropical, Colonial, Beach and Caribe.
The Palace Deluxe is the most recent built complex, and also the most expensive. If you stay here, you have access to all 5 hotels, the restaurants, pools, etc, and I believe you also get premium liquor. "Stay at one, play at 5"
The Tropical and Colonial are sister complexes. You can use all the amenities of each and also have access to the Beach and Caribe. Stay at one, play at 4". You cannot access the Palace Deluxe without paying a day pass.
The complexes that were first established were the Beach and Caribe. Sister complexes and you can go inbetween only these two resorts. It is the cheaper of the lot, but you can only go the restaurants and pools of the Beach and Caribe if staying here. "Stay at one, play at two"
I emailed my wedding coordinator to inquire just how much the day pass is- I heard it was in the range of $100pp for the day.... and there may even be a time restriction on the "day" pass. We are planning to party well into the night, so for some of our guests not staying at the hotel, we hope they don't have to leave too early.
Hope this helps, and happy planning

Everyone looks sharp indeed! I love the starfish lapels you made

We were torn about whether they were going to wear their jackets for the ceremony and formal pics, but I think with the formality of my dress and the BMs dresses, warranted them wearing their jackets. Plus, the starfish lapel pin I made didnt stand out on the white shirts.

These are lovely. I was wondering about the vase and mirror. $5/each from the hotel is great! Thanks for sharing

What is a sand ceremony frame and where did you get yours?

I have been to Barcelo in the past but I have hit a wall and can't think of anything else to put on my list: (please give me any extra ideas that come to mind)
1. a photo of an angel
2. Build a sandcastle
3. Pic of taking a shot with a stranger
4. Pic of Mexican Flag
5. Pic of Man in speedo (2 bonus points if you are in the picture with him)
6. A pic with a Mayan god
7. Pic of you on the water bike
I would like to come up with a bunch more things......I know Barcelo is busy and there are plenty of things to do but we thought this may be a fun thing to do maybe boys vs: girls!!! We welcome all ideas!! Thanks!!!
Great idea!

I'm not going to wear the strap though, and we're just going to sew a small flower onto the bust line. Without the strap the dress was kind of missing something, but the flower "completed" it! Yay!!!!!
