  1. We are in a similar situation. We live together and at first wasn't sure what we would register for. But towels, sheets, glassware, new dinnerware, and pots and pans are what we came up with too! Several people gave me suggestions but I don't feel comfortable registering for my honeymoon! A down payment on a house fund is a cute idea but I don't feel comfortable since guests will be incurring quite an expense to travel for our wedding. Actually I was also considering stating on invitation that your presence is your gift for those that attend the wedding! Some friends were yelling at me! What do u ladies think about this?
  2. Definitely doing symbolic ceremony! I have a friend who got married In DR a few years ago and she said it was way too complicated to do a legal ceremony! Her now husband was divorced as well as my FI and apparently that makes it even than much more challenging. Apparently you have to have everything translated into spanish including divorce documents. We are going to get married right before we leave!
  3. So my coworker was supposed to leave Sunday for beaches in Turks and Caicos and the resort is closed indefinitely due to norovirus. No info on their website. She only heard about it from a friend who was there last week. They ended up being closed to try and get rid of this virus. I am only posting this to advise brides scheduled for their weddings because the resort is keeping it quite! I can't even Imagine what I would do! My heart goes out to all the brides grooms and their guests!
  4. We used 80lb card stock from michaels! I definitely recommend the bone knife though it made them so much easier to glue. Venus0909 started a thread called Sharing my DIY Boarding pass save the dates. She has detailed instructions on making the pockets. I would have been lost without her instructions!
  5. I actually have hair extensions done about every six weeks. I haved had several types that stay in from 6 weeks to 6 months. The double sided tape, braided in, and right now micro clips. I also have a set on clips for temporary. I have two tracks and she charges me only $35 a track to put them in. I also only need partial highlights since it mixes in with my own hair so it doesn't cost a crazy amount of money. When I first got them years ago they cost me a fortune, but I was able to find a hairdresser that is so reasonable. Definitely go with the real hair! Also Sally beauty does have good quality hair but if you go to a beauty supply store that caters to African American/Hispanic customers the pricing is generally better. They usually have a great color selection and they will definitely sit you down and match your hair the closest in color for you. It can be a little intimidating at first to go in to buy hair and pick the right color so I was glad for the assistance... Lol Kelly
  6. That works for me... What time are you ladies thinking?
  7. I think this is a great idea!!! I live in north jersey so I would luv to get together:) Kelly
  8. So our save the dates went out..... Surprisingly, not even a phone call or text from a lot of friends who initially said they were all going! Some people are completely avoiding us. haven't heard from them in weeks and when I have called no answer. It is a little bit tough. We both totally understand if people can not afford it but ignoring and avoiding us?? It is just kind of strange! The wedding will go on wether people can make it or not!
  9. My travel agent printed us 250 Save the Dates for free! We ended up making the boarding passes because my FI really wanted to send those but for the budger conscious bride I thought I would let people know.....
  10. We made our own save the dates because my FI really wanted to send the boarding pass! but for brides really watching their budget, our travel our printed 250 free save the dates for us that were really nice, served the purpose! We are using Liberty Travel.....just a little bit of info for the budget conscious that I haven't seen on here before!
  11. Thanks for all the compliments! The template was free from aylee bits. On her website she has a list of supplies with the weight of the paper. Cream Paper and tags for the front were from Staples as well as the envelopes and labels. We were not able to find cream/off white labels so my Fiance dipped them in Coffee water to stain them. I was a little nervous but they turned out great! The rafia and paper to make the ticket jacket were from Michaels. I followed the instructions that one of the other girls on here had for making the ticket jackets. Without her instructions I would have been lost. I bought the tools for making everything at various stores, but the paper cutter I bought at staples in the end, had a lot of what we needed instead of seperate gadgets! We were excited and a little quick at purchasing tools. The Paper Cutter from staples had several different features.....cutting, a folding tool, as well as the perforator for the ticket. I also found the bone folder in conjunction with this folding tool to be worth it!
  12. So we completed our first DIY project and the response we are getting from family and friends is amazing! I think it gets everybody very excited about the trip! I have to say thank you to all the ladies on this site who have helped inspire my FI and I as well as shared all their wonderful ideas! A special thank you though to Venus who without her step by step instructions I would have been lost! The template we used was from alyeebits.

  18. Hi We were there this very week last may. In eight days we had one day with no sun at all and rain. The other days there were rain showers on and off they pass they quickly. Had a great trip!!! Actually best trip ever!! I think you will be fine:) Kelly
  19. Thanks to everyone for sharing. We just mailed our save the dates tonite! It should be interesting to see what happens. We have a lot of family and friends who are saying they are coming. I have had one friend with a ton Of advice and opinions who apparently is telling people it is too expensive behind my back. She was trying to talk me into a cheaper resort. I am finally just okay with the choices my fi and I have made! We luv our resort and feel comfortable recommending it for family and friends to stay at! We do understand it may be oo much of a financial burden for some to attend but we are paying for it and it works for our budget. I have lays dreamed of a destination wedding and my fi is divorced with two children for us it is perfect! I agree with the fact tht when we all get to our resorts none of us will care!
  20. Hi Erica, Congrats!!! We just got back our confirmation today and our wedding is all set for July 19th, 2013. We originally wanted the 20th which they said was available and when we sent the paperwork back it was no longer available for a beach ceremony. So ladies I wouldn't put it off. Erica are you using a travel agent? which package did you pick for your wedding? We are going through a travel agent so we don't have the hassle of making accomodations and blocking rooms for guests. Our travel agent matched the rates that paradisus gave us so that worked out. I don't think my contract had the room rates in them though. The rates they gave were only good through August. We are sending our save the dates out this weekend because of that and to give people plenty of time if they are interested. I am so excited to have found this website. I have gotten so many inspirations and great ideas on here. I don't think I would have known were to start. Anyway, congrats again and thanks for starting this thread! kelly ps... we stayed in the reserve last year here and it was amazing
  21. Venus, I can not thank you enough! First for posting pics of all your projects. They have helped inspire me! I have been working on my boarding pass save the dates, and when it came time to print the ticket jacket I just couldn't get it right. After searching the boards I found your detailed instructions! They totally saved my life! Thanks for taking the time to write them up and post pics as well! Kelly
  22. My travel agent came back with a higher quote then the resort. I told her and she matched their rates by booking through them directly. It is so much easier I think for the guests to contact her rather than me. If I went through the hotel I had to block off the rooms with a deposit on each that would then be applied toward my wedding package when people booked. Too much of a headache!
  23. Absolutely gorgeous! Amazing job! I am working on ours now and have been getting tons of inspiration on the boards here:) Kelly
  24. Thanks .... I kind of was getting that feeling. We are trying to figure out our guest list and determine how many people. This forum has been the best thing ever! So many amazing ideas and helpful tips for planning a destination wedding. Kelly
  25. Just wondering reception costs vs. reception at PPR..... We are working on our guest list and wondering which is the better economical choice....
