Royal Decameron Wedding - February 2013
Ploman replied to jennleigh's topic in Puerto Vallarta Wedding Vendors
I can't quite remember but I do seem to remember reading that review and bringing my own. I think they had the bigger hand towels and regular towels, but no face clothes. -
Iberostar Rose Hall and Suites Roll Call!!!!
Ploman replied to nolabride78's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
If you have had a good response to your destination wedding without invitations then I wouldn't send out invitations either lol I'd just email and call to let people know. If you're having trouble wrangling people then sending invitations might help. I did the 'print yourself' kit from Michaels, it came to about 40 cents per invitation. The stamp was more expensive lol. -
That sounds really cute I'll have to look into it! So far I'm just making the flowers, haven't decided what to put them in but if I can't find someting light and cheap then I'll just find something at the resort lol

Pretty good, thanks! I'm still deciding on final details of the day, and then just running around going to appointments. Got a dissappointingly high quote for tailoring my wedding dress :-(. I've got a really simple dress and the quote came in at $450 bucks. I dont think that the changes I want are very difficult, just a hem (on a detail-less bottom), and take it in at the top. And I wouldn't even need to take it in at the top except they ordered a size bigger than I needed 'just to be safe'... grrr. I'm mad about that! Anyways I'm bringing my dress to get a different quote on Monday... here's hoping! Otherwise I'm starting to fake tan, pack my OOt bags, finish centerpiece flowers, and then in the next 2 months I've got to get hair/nails/final dress fitting/ teeth whitening, waxing etc. I'm focusing on final exams, papers, and my last week of classes though, which is a nice break from wedding stuff lol. So close to graduating! And then christmas, and then new years lol. I think my wedding will come very fast!

We didn't actually send Save-The-Dates formally, we just sent an email around and told everyone. This is because we had over 300 invites and thought it was a waste of time and money to send them lol but we are cheap and have been engaged for over 2 years and told everyone from Day 1 that we would be getting married tropical in January of 2013. So in our Save the Date email we said, Early 2013, in late January or early February. The Maximum price is $2000 per person. We have chosen Jamaica. When we chose the resort we told everyone we talked to lol so most people knew about it but it wasn't formal. Then we sent out formal invitations in May. As I've mentioned on this blog earlier, I wanted to make sure that family has priority for booking in case we ran out of space. So we called family before we sent out formal invitations and told them that we would put money down on their behalf if they knew they wanted to go. We didn't tell them the resort formally but I think they were all decided to come regardless of what resort we chose. For our invitations, we had a formal fancy one, and then included a pamphlet since we couldn't fit everything on the fancy card. Here is our fancy card: Jenna Kay Reist & Marcus William Weinkauf Together with their parents, Gary & Etta Reist and Kevin & Linda Weinkauf Would be delighted for you to attend their wedding in Montego Bay, Jamaica. For details of the destination wedding package please see the included pamphlet. Please also save the date for a dinner and dance reception in Edmonton when we return. June 1, 2013 Details on this reception will follow closer to the date. We urge you to put the cost of any wedding gift towards your Jamaican travel expenses. To book your Jamaican trip please contact the travel agent noted in the pamphlet as soon as possible, and preferably before April 20, 2012. And here is our pamphlet [or at least the only draft of it that I can find...]: Hello Everyone! Marcus & Jenna’s wedding trip to Montego Bay, Jamaica will be from January 18-25th, 2013. The resort we have chosen is the Iberostar Rose Hall Beach. We've heard great things about the Iberostar resort: great food, great service, free flowing liquor, and amazing grounds. Jamaica is known for its spectacular sprawling beaches, tropical beauty, reggae music, the ‘island spirit’ of the people (…marijuana?), and the average 29 ̊C temperatures in January. While in Jamaica you may want to go golfing on the stunning courses in Montego Bay, go tube riding on the lazy rivers, go scuba diving in famous dive spots, visit the luminous lagoon where the water glows blue in the complete darkness, climb the Dunn’s River waterfalls in Ocho Rios, or let loose and visit the nude beaches which Jamaica is famous for! The Jamaica Jazz and Blues Festival is in town while we are there too, which features a variety of reggae, jazz, and blues artists, and in past years has featured major artists ranging from Maroon 5 to Kenny Rogers to Gladys Knight... 2012 had Celine Dion. The total cost of the all-inclusive vacation is $1800/person from Edmonton, which includes airfare, hotel, food, alcohol, and all taxes. The deposit is $250/ person. The deposits are not officially due until September but it is likely that space will fill up by this time. The plane only holds 120 people and we are expecting a large group, so we urge you to put down your deposit as soon as possible. Final Payment is due on September 23, 2012. Please note that the taxes are subject to change, but it is unlikely to change more than $40 or so. The tour company is Sunquest, with the flight being supplied by WestJet. As Sunquest only has an allotment of half of the plane, any seats above that allotment may be subject to an additional $75 charge. We urge you to book as soon as possible so that you can avoid this extra charge. To book, please contact our travel agent, Dale Stengel: Dale Stengel Thomas Cook Travel / Cruise World Address Agency Telephone: Cell phone: email: Please also let us know that you have booked at marcus-and-jenna@ gmail.com.

I received quotes over a year early, and chose a resort based on that. Then I needed new quotes for the year I wanted to go, and then new quotes again when the old ones expired (3 or so weeks after I got them). I would send out Save the Dates pretty early, let them know the week (give or take a week), and the price (we said MAX $2000, and it came in at $1800). This gives people a long time to think about it and save up. Then when it comes time to put deposits down they can act fast. I think you're pretty safe to act earlier leaving from Toronto since its such a high-flight center. I Was hesitant to put down money too early since there was a possibility of cancelling flights or moving them to different days out of Alberta. And that happened anyways, so now we are going through Toronto. Congrats and good luck!

I just got a quote to alter my wedding dress. $450!!! I think this seems pretty high... I am getting it shortened, but it is a simple hem, That charge is $200. They are also taking it in down the back, charge $200. Plus adding in cups for $40. Is this aroudn what you guys have been quoted? any other places in Edmonton I should go?

Sand Walkers
Ploman replied to Cherina's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I had my dress fitting, and they are tailoring my dress to my shoe height, and said that it might be a little long if i switch to flip flops later in the day. I decided to just live with that lol. -
Michaels, but it was right after summer so they were on sale.
-
Yea I was thinking of adding sand to the bottom [just from the beach though hehe], and maybe adding a starfish to the flowers or some glitter. Thanks for the suggestions!

Thanks for the Bag suggestions! I tried making my own flower centerpieces like the ones I posted here: I'm not in love with them, but I think i'll keep working on it. haven't found the right vase yet, but I kind of like the idea of just putting it in a cup like in my last picture. plus it would save me from having to carry down vases [although the first vase is plastic and extremely light]. If I do a glass then the centerpieces come to about 25 cents each lol. Do they look that cheap?

Does anyone know where to find bags like this in Canada? I want to put my mugs in this to give out at xmas, rather than paying for real xmas bags at 50 cents a piece:
