Wedding Dress Prices?
Ploman replied to gkashmira's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I was so misled by 'Say Yes to the Dress' hehe. I was so shocked to find out that most dresses carried in the stores were under $2000. Those brides are nuts spending up to $15,000 on a dress! (But I'm sure they look beautiful) -
Iberostar Rose Hall Beach Brides 2013
Ploman replied to jsamaras1's topic in Jamaica Accommodations & Site
I'm on January 20, 2013. Glad to see this thread! I haven't planned the reception or ceremony yet. After 6 months of dealing with tour companies, travel agents, guests, etc., we have just not finalized the bookings for all of our guests. We are at 91 people. If any more people book (and they might since it's still 5.5 months away), then they will likely have to leave the day before the rest of the group. Since we have so many people booked on the same flight, the price to go on January 18th has skyrocketed (meaning that my fiance and I have had to pay nearly $5000 out of our own pocket to keep the price the same for guests). If guests leave on the 17th then the price is much lower. I have bought chair sashes, some minor decorations, and some gifts for our guests. My next big task is to figure out the order of things. I know we want a steel drum band at one point, but not sure when. I'd like an open bar for guests after the ceremony but WOW is it expensive for 91 people!!! -
Anyone have their entire playlist?
Ploman replied to sstotz's topic in Wedding Music & Entertainment
Are people giving songs to the DJ and telling them only to play those songs? Or just putting these as songs that the DJ should play among other songs? -
No I ordered from Factory21. I'm expecting them mid August, so I'll post pictures then (including pictures of how big they are packaged hehe).

I think I'm going to have to experiment with the weights once my mugs arrive. It might be easiest for me to put everything inside my mugs at home first (since they all fit inside anyways), but if that makes it too heavy then I may have to separate them. I am afraid that my mug order is going to be huge and that I will have serious regrets... I'm impatiently waitinf for them to arrive. I'm on the lookout for extra suitcases that people don't need, so that I can pack a bunch to bring down to Jamaica, but not have to bring it back with me again. (ex I dont want to bring mack and empty suitcase that used to house my mugs, since its an extra $25 luggage fee). Otherwise, I've heard that some people pack everything as boxes and put it in the oversized luggage area. But I've heard that some air carriers don't let you do that, so i'll have to confirm before packing. It's garage sale season, maybe I should look there for suitcases hehe

Feburary 20, 2013
Ploman replied to rfreund's topic in Destination Wedding in Riviera Maya, Cancun & surrounding areas
I am bringing chair sashes, raffia fans, shells and fake diamonds for the tables at dinner, and some fabric for the arch under which we will get married. Also considering personalized napkins, and some petals for down the aisle. Previous brides at my resort said that the staff will set it up for me, but I will have to reconfirm that with the resort (and they dont respond unless your wedding is near hehe). If they dont, then I guess thats what the wedding party is for ;-) hehe. I've been told to set up your decorations as you want them before you go, take a picture, and print out the pictures and give them to the wedding coordinator (or whoever will be setting it up). This way they can be sure that they aren't 'doing it wrong' , and won't surprise you on your big day. I've also heard that some resorts will do the set up for you but require an extra fee. Good luck! -

Haha I WISH my soon-to-be-hubby would care more. Everything is .."sure that sounds fine"... or "yea if you think so whatever". I'd love to sit back and do nothing for this wedding hehe. Try overloading him with details... seemed to work for me ;-) hehe. For example "well the price from Edmonton is 1800 but we stop in this city, but from saskatoon is 1900 but its direct, and we have 64 from this city, but 3 could move to vancouver, but then one has to pay single occupancy price, and the other two don't really know eachother, and this person can't afford to move cities, and we can only get half as many rooms as we need from this city...." haha I have nightmares about booking this!

When to buy?
Ploman replied to quackdoc's topic in Destination Wedding Dresses, Wedding Attire & rings
I live in Edmonton. Most places either required an appointment, or gave you priority if you had an appointment (more attention, had a dress room reserved for you etc). I got my dress at Delica Bridal in Edmonton. They had very nice stuff, but only a few racks of it. A bit more expensive, most dresses around $2000 ish. I also went to the Bridal House (Bridal & Tuxedo House), and found that I didn't really like anything there, but they had a huge selection. It just wasn't right for my body type. It was also one of the cheapest places to get a dress. most dresses $1000 ish. I also went to Pure Bridal. I thought it had much nicer stuff than Bridal House, also at lower prices, around $1400 ish. Hope that helps! Many places said it could take a few months to order the dress in, depending on the line. Let them know your deadline and they may knwo what lines are faster to order than others. Good luck! -
Their flights and service will, I'm sure, be awesome as usual, but their policies for group bookings REALLY suck! I'm not sure if you have the same policies that they gave me, but for us, if we dropped below 10 rooms then they would readjust the price for EVERY GUEST! And it would go up to whatever the price of the day is at that time (so no fortelling how much it would raise by). Also, they would only guarantee the price for as many rooms as we initially requested (10), and if we needed MORE than 10 rooms then the price for those rooms would be re-negotiated again, and likely go up. So we wouldn't be able to put a firm price on the invitation. These policies are pretty terrible! I have written a letter to the president of WestJet and am sending it out next week lol THATS how frustrated I am with them! But thats just WestJet Vacations Groups [which is different than WestJet and also different than WestJet Vacations...]

how to back out of destination wedding
Ploman replied to athomebride's topic in Just venting or funnies
Hmm I know I'd be a little miffed if my bridesmaid said yes and later backed out, but I would be MORE miffed if she waited until the last second to tell me, or just didn't put her deposit down. So I'd recommend telling her as soon as possible! Then she can start looking for a replacement and give them time for them to consider if they can afford it. In the end, it sucks for everyone, but if you can't afford it then you can't afford it. It's a tricky situation, and you're right, it could get ugly! Good luck! Is it possible to go for a shorter duration, without your partner, so you can just be there for the wedding day and maybe a few surrounding days? -
We are getting married in January so not so much of a worry, but in our invitations we told people the price of the trip, and then at the end we told them the cost of insurance and what it would cover. Since you're going during a more weather-sensitive time you may want to let your guests know about the weather at that time of year (since you will know more about the weather there than them), so they can assess the risks themselves.

I have the exact same questions!
