  1. You are much farther in the planning than I am. We are gonna start to get stuff for the OOT bags probably in the summer as we will have a better guest count by then. Other than the invites (which we do not have yet), we have not done much in terms of the color scheme. I will hopefully be looking for a flower girl's dress. I have looked at a lot of flowers, but unsure what will be available in Jamaica. I ike the simplicity of the flowers above . Not so much liking the tulips any more. lol
  2. I love looking at all the shoes! But I need some help! I have no idea what kind of shoes to wear with my short wedding dress. Here is the dress I can not decide whether to go with white shoes or one of our wedding colors (orange and purple); heals, wedges, or flats. Any ideas? We will likely be getting married on grass, so I am not sure heals would work. Thanks in advance for your feedback!
  3. Krisinlilly- We found a local quilter who will be making it for us. Because she makes lots of quilts she has a lot of fabric, but is willing to buy specific fabric if we need. I am super excited to get started in the planning of it. I am not too much of a DIY, but I do like to add touches of our personalities and making things unique. We also were originally thinking of the puzzle idea, but when I found the quilt one, I fell in love with it! We are having a small wedding, so I want things to be very personal.
  4. Great Job on your invites! I love how you have the Orange in the background! We are getting our invitations made "passport style". I got the company to make a logo that closely resembles the Canadian emblem on passports. I think it turned out really well. I am impressed and can't wait to get them completed. Have you been able to find any OOT bag stuff yet?
  5. Wow! it looks like a few people have already gotten married and I would like to hear how things went in terms of bringing stuff down to Jamaica and also if those who were planning on buying stuff in Jamaica, how that went? I am excited to get started on our OOT bags. I would like to pick a bag I LOVE first and go from there. I am really interested in hearing from people who have bought stuff in Jamaica for their OOT bags. What a great way to support the local economy As far as what I plan to put in my OOT bags . . . so far the following: - little kits with travel size meds, hand sanitizer, gatorade mixes etc I like the idea of waterproof cameras (as I am pretty sure snorkling is offered on our resort) I also like the idea of insulated personalised cups or those freezer cups. Has anyone found any good deals on these? Or any suggestions on where to buy? That is as far as I have gotten. Would love to hear from other brides.
  6. Where did you get the orange waterproof bags?
  7. Hi Everyone, I did hear back from MDV and they do not allow access to the property for the day if you are not staying there. It would be an extra $1000 for our guests if we chose this venue and only stayed there for 3 nights and 4 nights at a Riu. Would be way too hectic and overall not a good fit. Thank you guys' for your advice and thoughts
  8. I LOVE These colors! We are using them for our wedding. I have not done anything other than the STD. I thought I'd share a pic below that really shows how beautiful the colors are together. I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the middle boquet. Have you started anything else for our color scheme? If you want to see our STD let me know, they just have a "hint" of purple and orange.
  9. I am staying at Riu, but getting married off resort. Have you tried e-mailing the wedding coordinator? I would also recommend just talking to a TA who has experience with DW. I've heard good things about the TAs through this website. Good Luck!
  10. Shellyebs- Have you checked out tropicalweddingsjamaica.com? I am not going through that site ( I have a planner which is costing us more than you want to spend), but I have communicated with Almarie who is the planner of that site and she is very helpful. They have packages on their website, but you can personalise everything! I would recommend emailing Almarie and telling her what you want. I know lots of other brides on here have used her. Good luck and congrats!
  11. Our wedding planner is looking into the whole firefly situation. She will be in Jamaica for about a week next week. I would really like a truly off resort wedding and not a wedding at another resort. What happened with your previous location?
  12. Have you requested any quotes recently? Sunquest recenlty released a promotion for winter next year. We had a previous quote and got a new quote. The price decreased and there was some added bonuses for the Bride and Groom. Also, are you pretty set on going around new years? I'm sure the rates would go down even a week later. Hopefully this helps!
  13. Is the $2700 for an AI resort for your guests? Where are you having it?
  14. tkuzma- We are getting married in Jamaica in mid- February! Still working in the exact day. We getting the group rates booked this week . Apparantly Sunquest just released their promotions for weddings next year. We were able to get a fairly decent rate, although it is still more than I wanted to spend. Has anyone else dealt with Sunquest and got any promotions? Slarso13- I plan on doing an off resort wedding, so I can't give you any advice on that; however, the other brides on this website are VERY helpful. You should send you save the dates out asap so that people can have enough time to plan. We sent ours out 11 months in advance and did not put the exact wedding date as we do not have anything confirmed yet. We have set up a wedding website to keep everyone updated so that when they are ready to book they can find the information needed. We will be sending out the invitations in August with the ceremony and reception information as well as acomodation information. (hmm . . . that just made me think, by August hopefully all our guests will hae put down a deposit. Wonder if I should still include accomodation stuff. What do you guys' think?) On a note for both of you guys' there is a forum that lists a time line for DW. It looks very helpful. http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/46632/timeline-to-do-list-from-the-guide-to-destination-weddings Sorry everyone for the multiple posts. I thought the system was not working
  15. renewing32- I am so with you! I have a wedding planner and I am still finding stuff to stress about!
  16. I am glad that everyone likes that idea. i tihnk I am going to try and do it. Will search the net and see if I can find ideas on how to make everything come together. I will post when I have a better idea. I personally can not quilt, so I will have to get someone else to do it. PS. I really like the ideas of of photobooks yearbook style I just could see it sitting on a shelf and not looked at very often in our house. Or looked at too much by my child
  17. mzthan6- have you heard of firefly? I really had my heart set on it and out wedding planner said they no longer do weddings .Does your planner have any insight into the whole situation with Firefly? We got pricing back from moondance and it is definately WAY above our budget. They also require you to stay a minimum of 3 nights with guests. I can not imagine asking my guests to change resorts half way through and pay almost $1000 more than it would cost for everyone to stay at one resort. Is Negril Escape a resort? do you have any links to it? Have you booked your wedding yet?
  18. It does not seem to be allowing me to post with quotes. I apologize it a bunch of posts pop up. Please bear with me. Shay4966- I love your idea about pre-RSVPing on the webisite. I may do that too:) CourtandMatt- We are using a wedding planner, but I wonder if a good TA would provide assistance with planning off resort wedding. Do you know? I am getting a little frustrated with our planner right now. Instead of off resort wedding locations she is giving me other locations that are at more high class boutique resorts which is not what I want. What kind of experiences are everyone else having with TAs? Congrats to all the other new bride to bes that have joined
  19. I Shall try this again. Shay-4966- that is such a great idea! I think I may steal it. CourtandMatt- We are using a wedding planner, but I wonder if a good TA would provide assistance with planning off resort wedding. Do you know? I am getting a little frustrated with our planner right now. 20. This is kinda a test. I have attempted to post 2 replies to other brides in this thread and they are not showing up. I posted probably about 4 days ago and it said that the post was being held for moderating, then they didn't post at all? What's taking so long?
  21. We are actually looking at Moondance cliffs, but I think it may be out of our budget and I was told they do not allow children under the age of 12. Have you had any experiences with either of the places listed below? I haven't heard of Negril escape
  22. I am having a small amount of guests at our wedding and really LOVE the quilt guest book idea (I am having a really difficult time finding any info on it). Basically you get guests to write their name and thought/advice for the bride and groom and then sew the squares into a quilt. Here are some pics I was able to find. Has anyone found any further thread re: this idea?? I LOVE the idea because you can do it with any amount of guests and it is something that will be in our home forever.
  23. We are looking at either Negril or Ocho Rios. I don't want to get married in Montego Bay. We are finalizing our decision of where this week
  24. Hello everyone, I have tried to find a thread on Golden Eye resort as a ceremony location, but have been unable to find any. Has anyone had any experiences with Golden Eye in Jamaica? The other venue I like is Firefly, but was told that they do weddings anymore. Has anyone else got this as well? I would also be open to anyone's suggestions of off resort locations in Jamaica or if you already know of a thread with this info. Happy planning!
  25. LaraJo- We are seriously considering getting married at MDV; however, we would like to book our guests at a separate AI resort and just have the wedding and reception at MDV. Did you have any kids at your wedding? We have a daughter and I heard that they do not allow children. Did your group stay somewhere else for the rest of your stay in Jamaica ( looks like you booked 4 days at MDV). I would LOVE to see some pictures if you don't mind. How much did it cost you for the ceremony and reception? Thanks so much! I am so happy I found this thread and it is still active
