Hi Allie, Thanks for the advice. I think even though I don't like my hair much in an updo it's going to come down to a spur of the moment decision like with yours. I am getting married right on the beach so I imagine we'll have wind. I am not having a veil for that very reason. I have seen some updos that I DO like, it's just how I look in an updo that I'm not much a fan of. I'm still not even sure if I'm going to have my sister do my hair or go to the spa for a trial and on the actual day have them recreate the look. I guess the best thing is flexibility!

Hello to all the Canadian Newbies! I'm happy you found us here. I'm fairly new myself - I'd been creeping for a while but only got engaged on November 24th, 2012. We're getting married August 19th, 2013 in Mexico. I'm looking forward to hearing all of your plans! Chantale, I am going to Punta Cana at the end of January for a friends wedding. It's not at one of the resorts you listed but it IS a Dreams - Dreams Punta Cana. I'll be sure to take LOTS of pictures even though I'm sure you'll have something secured by then. As for where to start, here is a great place! I'm still overwhelmed by this place (even with all of my previous research, haha!) but everyone is sooo helpful and the resources are endless. It's awesome. Have fun!

Aww thank you you guys! Honestly I am so inspired! I woke up at 5am this morning to do Day 3 before work. And I ended up getting here early! It is crazy how much more energy I have in just a few days - lol even though everything hurts! Again, thanks for the suggestions/work-arounds. I have dirty roommates (for 3 more months until our house is built yay!) so I've been using my crock pot that I got for Christmas to make the healthiest, most delicious foods and LOTS of it! Easy to grab and go in the morning or when I come home after a long day and I'm starving. I'm going to Abbotsford for work tomorrow for the rest of the week and the videos are on my laptop. I'll be jumping around that hotel room like you won't believe! No more excuses. I'm going to do this right. And if it helps me look even a bit better 3 weeks from now I'll be thrilled. Thank you so much for the support! -
Everything is so beautiful! Lol - now I want to go spend even more $$! I have purchased a few things so far: Our Save the Dates from Simone at DesignKandy. They were really reasonably priced. She was awesome about communication and helping decide on colour and design. They came with envelopes as well. I also purchased a return address stamp. Our invitations will be similar to these and I purchased them from beyonddesign - Ginger at Serendipity. They weren't cheap but it was fun and easy and I am so not creative or crafty enough to have put these together myself like some of the talented ladies on this forum. Of course the wording will be changed but we did stick with these colours. I have not received them yet but I am so excited to! These are the earrings I purchased for $31 from earringsnation. I purchased these tiny tags from Kindred Spirit Crafts - 8 for $5 and I tied them to the bracelets that I got my girls as a gift. They shipped really quickly! This is the memorial charm that I will put a picture of my daughter in for my bouquet. It was $10 at Monarch Designs4U and also shipped very quickly. I worried about the quality of it but it's perfect. Last but not least I bought myself these flip flops to wear at our reception under my dress. They were $18 from Seaside Impressions and they also shipped really fast! From Etsy I know I still want to get a ring bearer pillow, signs for our reception chairs, oh and so much more! I've been a crazy online shopper though! I have purchased many other things for decor and also a pair of barefoot sandals, or foot jewelry to wear at our wedding on the beach. Now that I see everything on this thread I'll probably go out and buy too much more! Have fun shopping!

Bridesmaids dresses

Thanks for your suggestion Andrea! I was thinking no necklace too, mostly because of the flowy top portion. I hope to be able to find earrings similar to the bracelets I got them. Drop ones would be nice. -
Hi Ladies, I am super excited to have a Trash the Dress session booked. But now I am thinking about dresses! The dress I am wearing for my wedding is this: Essence of Australia D1266 It's kind of like a 2 in 1 dress because you can take the lace overlay off and wear it as a mermaid style. I don't mind 'trashing' this dress afterwards because honestly I know it will get ruined from a wedding in the sand on the beach anyway and I will never wear it again. However, being mermaid style underneath I really don't think it's going to work for a TTD session. I want something more flowy for in the water. I'm afraid I just won't be able to move with the mermaid style underneath. So here's my debate. Obviously I don't want to spend a lot of money because man are things adding up, lol. I have found a dress on Pinterest from fishinthesky.com, a website which has terrible reviews and makes knock-offs of designer gowns (that should be my answer right there I'm sure, lol) but I just love this dress and it's $200. I know of course when the dress comes it won't look like this one does since I'm sure this is the designers real photo and the one I get will be a cheap quality and fabric, but if I'm just going to be jumping in a cenote in it do you think it matters? I've looked at some resale places and haven't liked the styles (plus getting the size is difficult) and online resale places seem quite a bit more expensive. What would you do? Or do you think I could actually do a TTD in the dress that I already have for the wedding even with it being the style that it is? Thanks for any advice!

Bridesmaids dresses

Here is the bridesmaid dress that I am going with. It's by Bari Jay. I got each girl a matching turquoise bracelet but I'm not sure about necklaces or earrings. Any suggestions? Thanks Ladies! -

Hi Sarah, I'd be interested in what other brides have to say here too. I'm going to do mine half up/half down but I have really thick hair - sort of like Monica on Friends when they went to Barbados when it gets too humid, lol! I am nervous it's going to grow or frizz out too much but I really don't like mine up. I am thinking no matter what some kind of frizz serum or something will be necessary. I'm going to keep my eyes on this thread for any advice!

Kelly thanks so much for the boost of confidence. I am just about to start day 2! I was kind of worried because I'm travelling for work again this week and I figured I'd just go to the gym in the hotel while I was away, but after reading your suggestion I am transferring the videos to my laptop right now. I can't believe I didn't think of that! Love your suggestions as well about easing into it. Lol, grocery shopping today I couldn't even stand on my tiptoes to look for something on a high shelf. My calves are killing me, haha! But it will be worth it in the end. My fiance and I are heading to Punta Cana in 3 weeks for a friends wedding (only the second DW I'll ever have gone to, and I've stood in about a billion wedding, haha) and I know I'll be gross on the beach there, but at the same time I'm excited because I know by the time it's OUR wedding in August, we're both going to look great! Thanks again for your suggestions and inspiration. I'm looking forward to inspiring others one day too! Lauren -
Crestena I love that this is so long, haha!! You write like I do! You've given me so much more to think about now which I appreciate because I probably would have forgotten half of it! I seriously need to make some sort of time line out. I don't have much of a timeline worked out yet for our day since we're right at the beginning stages but I do really like your money saving idea of the cocktail party. We're doing the dinner, but then I think we'll have to compromise having a welcome dinner or an after brunch. I'd like to have one or the other. Are you guys just making reservations at a restaurant (Portofino for your rehearsal dinner) or is there an extra charge to have a group get together somewhere like at some hotels? I wish their website was a little more informative or easier to navigate so I could figure out where I'd like to have these dinners/brunch lol. Is Las Rocas like a bar or is it a restaurant? I like luggage tags as favours but that may be personal since I work for an airline, haha - maracas could be a lot more fun - and a way for people to get you to kiss - I have to think about that too! I'm doing no veil too. There was a gorgeous veil that matched perfectly with my dress but I couldn't bring myself to buy it for an extra $250 knowing I'd wear it for a half hour tops and I have heard it can get pretty crazy with the wind on the beach. I think I'll do a flower too. I was wondering what to do with my hair. I think my sister is going to do it, I just want it wavy, half up/half down. I would LOVE to get some clip in extensions just to wear for that day but need to talk to my hair stylist about where to get them, have them dyed to my colour, and I'm sure that will be expensive too! What are you putting in your welcome bags? I so far have sudoku books I bought at Dollarama, the little 10 tubes of extra strength Tylenol, Tums mini packages, I'm going to make a welcome book with some phrases and week events, SPF chapstick which I'm putting personalized labels on, I made door hangers with our colours, playing cards, a few bandaids, a pack of gum, and I'd like to get those OFF wipes (August in Mexico, yuck!) and a couple of water bottles, oh and I don't know what else! I haven't even started thinking about the suits for the guys! We'll probably just do linen shirts and pants. I forget the name right now but I know there's some cheap website going around on here for guys stuff. My problem is finding ties in our turquoise colour and differentiating the groom from the groomsmen in some way. He will have a boutonniere but I will need something else I think. Any suggestions? Candles and pictures for the tables I've started thinking about. The music playlist is going to be HUGE! Oh I'm scared to start thinking about that. We're not getting a DJ so we'll have make sure we have good versions on our iPod and I'm going to drill his cousin into playing it correctly, lol. How are they doing your music for the actual ceremony? I also have to think about our vows. Are you guys writing your own whole ceremony or just the vows? I have a few little things I'd like read but other than that I am going to have them do their thing. I am nervous to write our own vows. Lol, I talk to so much and Tye talks so little I don't know! Maybe we could work on them together but then I don't know if he's not supposed to hear them until that day, haha. Oh and the wedding I was at before was at the Punta Emilia and it was just beautiful!! I love that you're having Senior and Seniora on your chairs!! I may steal that idea it is SO cute! I also love the idea of the cigars to pass out at the ceremony! We're putting fans and bubble tubes on the chairs as our favour at the ceremony. I've ordered a few from Paper Lantern Store.com but not a whole bunch yet since I don't have an exact guest count and won't for a while. I also ordered turquoise and beige lanterns, they came sooo fast! I was able to pick them up at Christmas time from my friend. My family is in Windsor, Ontario (just south of Detroit funny enough) and I have a bridesmaid who lives in Michigan which has been a Godsend since most places don't ship to Canada and the ones that do cost 3x as much to get them here! I just ship everything to her house. That's awesome you have a photographer you love! Pictures are so important to me but holy the expense is crazy. I've decided to go with someone who is fairly new - been in the business about 3 years. I know her from back home and when she was just starting out she asked if she could do a free memorial shoot with me and took some pics of me holding angel wings and things in the woods that I thought were really creative and turned out well. She is very passionate and works her butt off which I like. She is still charging more than I'd like but I trust her so that's ok. Prices seem to be a bit better in the US. If I do both the TTD and have her as a photographer we're looking at $2600 total. I want to do a TTD too, but I think I'm going to go with Cancun Wedding Photo. They don't charge too much and they can take us out to a cenote. The question I have is this - would you buy a cheapy TTD dress off fishinthesky.com for $200? I don't want to ruin my actual dress, although I get that it will probably be ruined from the sand anyway haha. I just watched an Inside Edition on buying those cheapo dresses online, but I only want it to jump in the water in. I don't expect it to be nice at all haha, I just have trouble taking the website seriously when it says 'Dresses for Brideses' hahaha. It's kind of a unique perk of a DW to get to do TTD. About the extra wedding cost, I'll need to get a bit more clarification from Vanessa on that. We're just having a symbolic ceremony. We'll be getting married somewhere in Canada a week before we go. We haven't decided where yet, but we both can fly wherever we want so we're thinking either back to the place in BC where we got engaged or somewhere we've never been before. I think the base cost of our wedding is $1550 and then you're right I think it's only for 8-10 people. We're doing the sit down dinner so we're paying $50-$60 a person to have the guests eat so I'm hoping it's not an additional $20 each on top of that! Oh I also love your idea of the 'Just Married' sign for the golf cart! How adorable! It is so great that they'll pick everyone up from one location. I am really liking our resort choice! It all adds up but it is so much fun! Keep me posted on how you're doing! Lauren

I did it! Well, I made it through the whole Plyometric Cardio video. I'd say I completed about 70% of what they did - the suicide drills were killer and I couldn't do more than a couple of those. I worked slower at them, but considering I've done nothing for a long time I'm proud of myself! -

Hi Ladies, I have Insanity right in front of me and I think I'm going to start it as soon as I finish writing this. I went from a VERY active job 2 years ago where I was in the best shape of my life at 29 years old, to a very sedentary job last May where I also spend a time travelling making it hard to eat right as well. I am embarassed to say this but in those 2 years I've gained 25 pounds. In the last month 3 different people have asked if I was pregnant! All of my weight is in my stomach. My fiance and I are currently having a house built which should be ready in March (I can't wait!) and in the meantime we're kind of in an uncomfortable living situation with roommates who are really messy making wanting to eat at home pretty undesirable so we eat out a lot. These are all just excuses though, and with 8 months until our wedding do you think it's possible for me to lose that much weight? I got a slow cooker for Christmas and for a week I've eaten nothing but healthy foods (it's killing me, haha!) but I have not dropped even a pound. I know I need to do more. I tried P90X for one day a few months back and I couldn't walk for a week haha, and I hear Insanity is worse but I think I can do it before work on days I'm not travelling. I am away 2 days next week, but I can always use the hotel gym on days I'm away. I can see a lot of you have been disciplined and successful. Here goes nothing..... -
Oh I didn't even read up and see that Peach had already mentioned them. I'd agree with her that they made us feel SO comfortable!

Kristie I went to Miss Behave. It kind of did cost an arm and a leg but I loved the pictures! The airbrushing makes you look fantastic, haha. We made it like a girls day - my cousin and 2 friends and I went shopping for outfits then got our makeup done at MAC and our hair done at Blo and went to their studio (which was in a really creepy area downtown lol, but super cute and nice inside) and we ordered pizza and brought wine and had a blast. Might be a good shower/bachelorette kind of thing. Of course I think if I could do it again I'd have the girls day but do what Jolene suggested and get a whole CD for waaaay cheaper! Have fun and good luck!
