  1. Hi Everyone, I'm new here and just trying to decide on a resort. A friend had her wedding at Grand Palladium about 5 years ago and I remember it going off almost without a hitch. Also a coworker was married there 2 years ago and can't say enough fantastic things about her wedding. Where as I asked a couple other DW brides if they'd recommend their resorts and they said not so much, I just feel like Grand Palladium is the right choice. I'm only recently engaged, but I know we want a summer wedding so we're kind of working quickly on nailing down a resort. I emailed Rolico today and asked a whole bunch of questions but I thought maybe I could get a few quick answers from the ladies here. We're looking to book a package from July 27th to August 3rd (probably a few days sooner for us) but of course we can't do that until we secure a wedding date. The prices are very good right now through the channel we're looking and I don't want to miss out. Did it take a long time for you to hear back about a date once you emailed, or did any of you just call? Is there a number to call? The other question I had is about the packages available for 2013. Do you have to get one of the new Karen Bussen packages or can you just kind of make your own without the $4600 price tag? And if you DO go with one of the packages is a dinner/reception included in the price or do you have to add the beach party (which looks great!) for the additional $1400? The only reason I'm concerned about having to go with a package is that I wanted to do things in my own colours, not something that's already been set for me. It seems like at a lot of resorts this isn't possible anymore. Thanks for any help you can give me! I'm sooo excited to start all the planning! Lauren
  2. Hi Kristie! Thanks so much for your reply. Do you mind if I ask what Travel Agent you booked through? That is a good price for out here. I know that we're kind of last minute at this point but it would be a good starting place. The Beach Palace is gorgeous! I have stayed at the Cancun Palace (a loooong time ago) but remember it being fantastic. Was price your deciding factor or something else in deciding on your resort? For our budget my max is about that price for our guests. We're waiting to hear on what our parents will be able to contribute before nailing down an exact number (which will include dress, invitations and all of the extras) but I'm hoping to have approximately $15000 to work with. The local question I have right now is about dresses. Did you find yours here in Calgary? I know I'll need to work quickly and I do have styles in mind. Do you know of any local bridal shops where you do not need an appointment? I'd love to just pop by after work one day. This is hard without my mom around! Everything else like invitations and flowers (probably real touch ones) and OOT bags and omg so much else can wait. I want to secure the location and dress ASAP. I actually have a zillion other questions too haha but I'll try not to bombard you or anyone else right away! Thanks again for your help! Lauren
  3. Like many others I've creeped this site for a while before actually becoming engaged. Now it's finally my turn! The love of my life proposed to me in a romantic chalet in the mountains of BC this past weekend. We've known for some time that we wanted a destination wedding, but now that the time is here, and even though I have a Pinterest board FULL of ideas I'm lost. I was hoping to hear from some others here on how they decided on a location. Initially we thought we might like the NOW Jade Riviera Cancun. We travelled there in April and honestly had an amazing time. The food was incredible (very important to us) and the service was good as well. Mexico seems easiest since we currently live in Calgary and are looking for somewhere that both of our families can reach directly. His family is all in Alberta and mine is across the country in Windsor, Ontario. We are planning quickly - summer of 2013 - since a lot of my friends are teachers and the summer is most convenient. Although we enjoyed the NOW Jade, I think we'd like to try somewhere a bit larger because of what we assume will be a big group going. We're open at this point to a destination anywhere - suggestions are welcome and I love white sand and I like anywhere there is good food. For my fiance, he likes a cozier feeling resort, although his family is huge so I have a feeling our guest list is going to be quite large. We need a place where children are welcome as well, as I'm acquiring a lot of new nieces and nephews and many of my girlfriends are newer mommies. FYI I am 27 Dresses, haha - the last to get married but a bridesmaid expert! Money is tight. We're building a house that should be ready in March. We both work for an airline so flights out for us are not a problem, but for our families and friends we want something confirmed and cheap. It seems like packages from Alberta a pricier no matter who you go with. It seems like we need to secure a budget before a resort, but until we know a destination and a resort we can't know what we need. Lol, it's so much to think about right away. How did you keep from feeling overwhelmed, and more importantly.... where did you begin?? Thanks for your help and suggestions! I'm sooo looking forward to planning with you all! Lauren
  4. What an awesome idea! Thanks for passing it along. I can't wait to see what the finished product looks like.
  5. You're right your dress was perfect! It looks so beautiful!!
  6. These are so nice! I love how you've put them together, especially the theme of it all. I'd love to know more about how you created them (paper you used, etc.) Awesome job, looking forward to seeing more of your creations!
  7. These are awesome! I love the envelope liners and bands. And the RSVPs. I love them all, haha!! Nice job!
  8. Thanks Mlite!! You never know. Congrats on booking a date - that is so exciting! That's awesome that already people are putting down deposits too. You must be thrilled along with that overwhelmed bit haha. Looking forward to hearing more about it!
  9. Hi ladies, I have to confess I've been creeping BDW for quite a while as I'm not even officially engaged yet (although I am told it will be soon!) My bf and I know that we want to have a DW when the time comes as our family is all over Canada. We booked our vacation to NOW Jade this year and thought while we're there it might be a great time to check some things out for the future. I had attended the webinar and I liked everything that Pilar had to say. We leave tomorrow for our trip!! I am so excited and I can't wait to see this beautiful resort in person - even though it's supposed to rain the entire 5 days we'll be there. I'll be sure to take lots of pics of the grounds and maybe I'll get to see a wedding in action. If there's anything specific you all want me to take note of while I'm there let me know! Hopefully one day soon I'll be posting in this thread as an actual NOW Jade Bride!
  10. We didn't meet online although I've been MOH in 2 weddings in the last year where my good friends met their fiances on Lavalife and eHarmony. We met through work but were just friends. We actually got together for lunch one day to help write each other's online dating profiles as neither of us were having luck with the people we were meeting. It wasn't long before we realized that when we were describing what we wanted that it was each other! And the rest is history!
  11. Thanks Oct 2012 Bride! I've been waiting for this Groupon to go live again. I was speaking to a friend tonight who used Vistaprint for her wedding last September. I was questioning whether or not the colours of the designs can be changed or just the font colour (I'm very new to all of this!) and she told me that she called their help number and spoke to the most wonderful person who literally worked with her on the phone, changing colours and pictures before her eyes like she had a friend in the same room helping with everything. She couldn't say enough wonderful things about the company. Just another little rave to add to all of the others here. Enjoy your creations, ladies!
  12. Those are really nice, Laurlyn. What make are they? I'd love to check out the other colours available.
  13. This is awesome! Tapatalk is the first app I've paid for but I know it's going to be worth it. Lol - my addiction to this site just hit the road! For those of you who are having trouble ffinding BDW once you install it..... I searched Best Destination Wedding and BDW and nothing came up but when I simply searched 'wedding' it was the first forum result that I got. Have fun!
  14. Thank you so much for sharing! I'm still VERY early in the planning stages (as in not even an official date yet, haha) and spending a ton of time on here doing research. I can't believe what an amazing and helpful community BDW is! You're all so wonderful to share your ideas. You're templates will be a lifesaver - you've convinced me to become a supporter. Thank you!
