  1. Thank you! The natural beauty of Blue Venado is a fabulous backdrop... hard not to look great Happy to help with any questions you have!
  2. I am dying. THANK YOU! We have browsed through your blog for years and to see ourselves in these images is like being in a movie How am I supposed to ever get back to work!????
  3. Wow! Beautiful couple and wedding! Thanks Matt! I didn't think it was possible to be more anxious to see our pics! I'd be happy to share any advice with future brides of BV. I know I was hesitant to book there because of what little info there was online. I'm sure that will change soon... it's such a winner!
  4. Hello all, Back from our wedding trip and just wanted to let anyone thinking of BV for thier wedding know how absolutely fabulous they were to work with and how gorgeous the venue is. There was not one request that wasn't answered with "of course", "no problem", etc. Our guests were blown away with the site. The ceremony was so peaceful and romantic and has views of beautiful sunsets for pictures. The large palapa was an awesome place for a party. A built in wood dance floor, great sound, nice rustic furniture and an amazing bar area with swings all in the sand. The staff was incredible. They were super friendly, very attentive and made sure everyone had a blast. Food was fantastic. We had canapes for cocktail hour, specialty cocktails, and a generous buffet for dinner. Our guests raved about the food. It was truly a dream. I wouldn't change a thing. Don't hesitate to book this for your big day! Note that we hired a coordinator (Erica from Weddings in Playa, who is totally amazing), an outside florist who also helped decorate and a DJ who kept us dancing for 5 hours! They were all awesome and all came together to form a wedding dream team. Individual reviews to follow!
  5. Hi, Kool is a short walk from both those resorts. About 5 minutes. It's a safe walk for sure- however I never walk alone on the beach in any country and I'd suggest the same to your guests. Take 5th Ave or the beach route only if they are in a group. I don't have much info on weddings at Kool but have been to the beach club a couple of times and had a great time, great service etc. Happy Planning!
  6. Hi, Yes, BV has been very open to negotiating and easy to work with. Being able to bring in your own food and beverage was one of the main reasons we chose them. I'm waiting for the administrator on this forum to post Blue Venado in the venue section so my complete review can be posted. Hope this helps!
  7. I booked Blue Venado Beach Club for my November 2012 wedding and just returned from Playa to visit and do a tasting. The info online for this venue is limited so I'm happy to share these pics and answer whatever questions I can for all the future brides out there looking for a beautiful, secluded beachfront venue. A bit of info to start with- the beach club is about 10 minutes south of Playa del Carmen and then it takes about 10 minutes to get to from the highway as it's a dirt road through the jungle. It's very secluded with only the Punta Venado horse ranch in the same area. It's a fun ride through the jungle and the venue is right on the water. The set up is under a large palapa and there are 2 smaller palapas for cocktail hours etc. It is more "rustic" and less modern then most beach clubs I have been to on the area which is what we wanted. The entire venue is in the sand with the exception of a wooden floored area that can be used as the dancefloor. Here are some pics of the club: 1. Outside the large palapa looking towards the ceremony area 2. the smaller palapa for welcome champagne and cocktail hour 3. inside the large palapa from the dancefloor area looking to the bar 4. dancefloor area 5. furniture included (about 40 of these style chairs available) 6. other included furniture options (about 80 of these chairs available) 7. ceremony area (this was still up from the night before! ) 8. washrooms (womens) under a palapa Onto the food... We opted for a family style serving for our guests and chose from the finger foods menu. The chef was really open to all ideas and suggestions and the food was tasty and fresh. Shrimp cocktail and melon gazpacho for cocktail hour: ceviche other finger foods to sample: The people at Blue Venado were great and they are really flexible with menu, drinks etc. Our experience was wonderful and we're really happy we chose this as our venue. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer!

  12. Hi, We chose Blue Venado Beach Club as we also wanted private and secluded and a flexible venue. I'll be there on Tuesday to check it out and do a tasting and will post a full review when I get back. Congrats and good luck!
  13. Our friends had a rehearsal dinner on the roof of El Taj last November and if I recall correctly paid about $500 for alcohol and bartenders and about $24 per person for a delicious buffet: chicken, beef and pork tacos, rice, beans, salad and guacamole etc etc... We were about 40 people. They were already staying in the penthouse there so there was no fee to rent the roof. With a $2,500 budget I'm sure you can find something great!
  14. Xcaret weddings are stunning! Congrats on making the choice... it's not easy but you are now guaranteed a beautiful wedding! I'll be visiting Blue Venado in May. Can't wait. I have an outside planner and a million ideas! Hope it comes together
  15. Great thank you so much! Love that you can make it your own and decorate. Lots of potential! Have you chosen this as your venue or still not decided?
  16. I loved this find and used it to help with my invites: http://offbeatbride.com/2007/12/wedding-invitation-wording-that-wont-make-you-barf I also included a verse from one of my fave songs at the top that references love and the beach... it adds a fun little element!
  17. Hi, Congrats! Playa is a great place for a wedding party to stay entertained and have a good time and Gran Porto is right in town. It's a very nice property. The only con is that it doesn't sit on the most desirable stretch of beach. Sand bags and constant erosion. Also, it is a very busy area so it's something to consider seeing as there will likely be many people on the beach during your ceremony. Good luck and happy planning!
  18. The food and drinks were great actually. We had champagne upon arrival, then cocktails (blended mojitos, margs, cosmos, pina coladas...) with some great shrimp cocktail and ceviche appetizers/canapes while they took pics and then for the meal they chose a buffet style and it was really good. Stuffed chilies, mole chicken, arrachera, rice, salads etc. The staff made sure drinks were flowing and even ran out half way through the party when they realized they were going to run out of Don Julio. How did you like Blue Venado? Pros/cons?
  19. Hi, I'm getting married at Blue Venado Beach Club... about 15 mins outside Playa. Secluded and rustic, under a giant palapa right on the beach. Have you seen the Beach Club at Grand Coral? My friend just got married there and it was gorgeous. Modern vibe like Kool but about 10 mins from town so much more private. Do you have a planner?
  20. Hi, I've been to Playa the past 4 Novembers and am getting married there this Nov as well! I would say the first 2 weeks of Nov. are quieter and rates cheaper and then the last 2 weeks get visibly busier with jazz fest and the kick off of the high season. Rates also shoot up for most places. I don't know about noise as we always seem to miss the jazz fest by one or two days but the beaches etc look much busier towards the end of our stay... You may want to go on tripadvisor and check past reviews for the times you're looking at at Mahekal to see if people mention anything about noise during jazz fest etc. Good luck!
  21. My planner, Erica from weddings in playa, has been fantastic and planned a great house wedding a few years ago: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/casa-chaac-villa/reviews She also planned my friends wedding this past Nov. and it was fabulous. The price I am paying her for my 2012 wedding is less that the $1,800 you are quoting.
  22. Thank you SO much for the great review of Blue Venado. Glad to see you didn't have many cons of the reception area/food/service. I can deal with algae and some rough sand. I also love that you can use outside vendors. I have a great planner that has many $ saving tips. I find the decor packages Blue Venado sent to be pricey... I plan on taking care of decor with the planner. I have been emailing with Enzo from BV - and he always gets back to me right away. I like the idea of having cabs available to take people home early too... Again, thanks so much for putting all this together! Any pics??? I know it is rustic... but did it feel clean? bathrooms?
  23. Lucky you! I've been to Playa a few times and you have a really good mix of places to check out. Wicky's is nice. Most formal of your choices. Food is great. The beach will be very busy (good to know in the event that you want something private/quiet) Kool is also on a very popular stretch of beach. The pics of weddings I've seen look really nice. I have heard that you can stay late but I think you have to start late too because it stays open as a beach club until 6 or 7pm. I've eaten there and liked it (snacks in the day) Blue Parrot doesn't get the greatest feedback and I'd say the the least attractive of your pics... the club is LOUD and attracts a young crowd. Xcaret looks so cool for weddings... very different. Canibal Royal has great food and drinks in the day but I have never seen a wedding there. Isla and Blue Venado are secluded which I love. I have booked Blue Venado and have never even been so looking very forward to your review! Have you considered the Beach Club at Grand Coral? I just attended my friends wedding there and it was beautiful. Happy hunting!
