  2. That's an amazing price! I've heard good things about ME. I have a friend that went to a wedding at Majestic Colonial and she said that the Elegance side was gorgeous. Our price is $1530 pp for Dreams PB but if we have 30 people book the price will drop to $1380 so fingers crossed!
  3. Haha, I'm still patiently waiting for my wedding next year! At least my countdown in less than a year now. We're going simple and rustic with our decorations. Small flower arrangements and candles on the tables (I'm wondering if they'll do that though since it's open flame, but Mayte didn't say no). We're keeping the colours fairly natural too - dark brown, sand, white, with teal and soft green accents. We have palm trees as a theme so maybe some palm leaves somewhere? I might just leave it up to Mayte. What about your colours and decor?
  4. That's the same with ours! Are you going through Sunwing? I feel the same way, I don't think people think about vacations this far in advance usually. Do you mind me asking where you're staying and what your quote was?
  5. Has anyone ever bought any of the bridesmaid dresses from Island Importer before? I'm just wondering about quality of the fabric and the stitching. I found this dress on the site and it's perfect for my girls - a mix of classy and sexy. It comes in teal which is what they'll be wearing and it's on sale! It's made of jersey so I think that will travel well too. I really want to buy one for myself as well, either in black or coral.
  6. We were just a couple months short of 5 years of dating when he proposed. Everyone that knew us was like, "FINALLY!" But finances has to be in order first before he could get the ring and I understood that. We'll have been dating 6.5 years by the time we get married. We're also having a long engagement due to (surprise) finances. But the big day is less than a year away now!!
  7. That is a gorgeous bathing suit - what a great splurge! And your engagement photos are super cute.
  8. Goodness, I love the ruffled chair cover! I want to do something special for the bride and groom chair to make them stand out a bit more, but the rest of the chairs will have white sashes on them. Maybe I could do ruffles or flowers to our chairs.
  9. I still think #1 looks gorgeous on you!! If you're having second thoughts, go with your gut. Wait a couple days and go back to them both, and really be aware of how you feel in the dress. I tried on a dress once and fell in love with the simplicity of it. I was this close to paying for it that day (it was only $400 too!) but I asked if I could take a day or two to think it over. When I went back and tried it on again, it wasn't the same. I noticed things about the dress that just did not look good on me that I hadn't noticed before. I ended up not going with it, and instead bought my dream dress a month later. I say go with your gut.
  10. We've have an adults only wedding. For the rest of the week, people can have their kids with them but not the wedding day. We have a babysitting service already set up for our venue. I know of only 1 person in my family that will be upset about this (and about the price per kid as it's fairly high) but to be honest, every other parent that's inviting is treating it as a retreat from the kids. I say go for it if that's what you want to do! Stick to your guns!
  11. We have different pages on our website: Our Proposal, Wedding Events (for ceremony, reception, and any welcome dinner or excursions we plan), RSVP, Travel Info (like resort and flight prices, room descriptions, payment due dates), Guest Info (like a FAQ section), Wedding Party (so people know who's who), Photos (from the past 5+ years of dating), Guestbook (we've had 2 people sign!) and a Contact Us form.
  12. We will be giving gifts to both set of parents even though they did not contribute in the same way. FI's parents are contributing financially, while my parents are contributing emotionally and with the planning. My parents are helping bring together ideas and executing them, while his pay for them. I think I'd get them gifts even if they weren't doing anything for our wedding just because they're our parents. And I love giving gifts!
  13. I totally never thought of this but it makes perfect sense! When I work out and my hands are below my heart (like doing push ups) they get so red and veiny and...manly I guess, lol. I'll have to keep this in mind on the wedding day.
  14. If money were no object, I'd take my closest family and friends on a surprise trip to Italy where we would get married! After a few days of celebrating, my fiance and I would leave for our round-the-world honeymoon. (I'm still secretly hoping we win some money so we can actually go around the world)
  15. Next week! A little early for formal invites but we heard the fuel surcharge might be going up so we want to start getting people booked.
  16. I hate this too. A DW has it's own complications. While I don't have to deal with as much wedding detail work (I just send pictures and show up), I have to deal with way more family drama than I would have had for a local wedding.
  17. We're just 4 years apart. He's the older one. I'll be honest, I'm a bit surprised that I'm marrying someone the same age as me!
  18. I'm actually a reformed spender, haha. I'm huge on saving now and love watching those numbers go up. I'm still paying off some credit card debts, and I hope to get those paid off before the wedding (the school debt is a whole different issue) because I feel like it would be unfair for him to have to pay that off. But I'm proud of what I've done with my money in the past year and it's nice to see it growing in my account. I think it'll make it easier if we're both respectful of the money we bring in to the marriage - don't go spending away my savings and I won't dip into his trust fund.
  19. Could this be an issue with them not knowing how many flights they have leaving that day? I vaguely remember talking to my TA about booking people through Sunwing and she said that with our quote we could get 30 people on the plane guaranteed and then try and add more as they book. She said that because it's so early they might "run out of room" on the plan, but I think she said that flights to popular destinations can fill up fast and then they charter another flight? Because it's so early (for my wedding) we only know of a few flights leaving but I think she said they can add more the closer it gets to the date. It might be worth it to talk with Sunwing and see if there's a possibility they might have another flight leaving the same day? Or if you aren't working with a TA, to get one and explain the situation. Good travel agents can work wonders. I know how you feel about Westjet, they are so rigid and a pain to work with that we decided to not use them. :S
  20. Better Together by Jack Johnson. I know it's become a popular first dance song, but it's a song that has meaning to both of us. It was our song when we were long distance.
  21. Can he have his groomsmen but have them not stand up during the ceremony? So he can do his guy things with his groomsmen, like getting ready before the ceremony and his bachelor party. Even have the guys walk down the aisle. But they could sit in the front row with the family which denotes them as being important, while you and your FI can be the only ones standing at the front. Would that be a reasonable compromise? And then they can be included in the wedding party photos and such.
  22. Gorgeous photos Krysta Lee Ann!! You look stunning in your dress!
  23. If you go here: http://travel.webshots.com/album/575886478zUqMZE someone took pictures of the Jellyfish menu and drink prices are on there. I have no clue how old these photos are or the menu itself, but it should help to get an idea for costs.
  24. The purpose of a stag and doe is generally to raise money for the bride and groom to either help pay for their wedding or help start their lives together. I think if you're weren't collecting money it'd be more like...an engagement party? At least every stag and doe I've been has been to raise money, maybe it's different elsewhere.
  25. Has anyone else had their wedding party members do a complete 180 and bail out of the wedding? That's what one of my bridesmaids did this week and I'm still pissed about her attitude. I asked her to be a bridesmaid after we had decided to do a DW and she agreed. When we were choosing resorts, we specifically asked everyone of our wedding party members if the price of $1500 per person was okay with them (we were guestimating the cost). This bridesmaid said yes, the price was great and she couldn't wait. I checked in with her once a month to make sure the price was still good and every time she said the price was good for her and her husband and that she couldn't wait to go. Two weeks ago we got our quotes, and the price per person is $1530 pp, pretty much spot on to what we've been telling people. I relay the information and everything is still fine. Two weekends ago, she starts asking me questions about the resort through text, like what rooms are available and which one does she get. I told her the room prices and said it was up to her and her husband to choose a room that best suited their finances. At one point she goes a long time without responding and I get a funny feeling, so I outright ask her if she thinks she'll be able to make it to the wedding. She then gives me a huge story about how her husband and her are really hurting for money, that it's a lot of money, and that she's trying her best to be there because they're putting every cent towards our wedding. We go to the beach two days later, and while I hear more stories about how bad her finances are, she also buys frivolous things from the vendors, talks about getting her nails done and tells our group of friend that we should rent a cottage for a week in the summer. (Can you see where this is going?) Last weekend I ask her again if she'll be coming to the wedding (politely) and explain that I while I will be sad if she can't because she's my friend and I'd love to have her there, I understand if finances are too tight. I pretty much gave her an out and she took it. She said she couldn't commit 100% because it was a lot of money to save up and they had other obligations but she still really wanted to be a part of my wedding somehow. She also said she wanted to have a sit down talk with me about the wedding. Everything is good, I tell her she can support me in other ways and everything is fine. We never had that sit down chat about the wedding. It's no longer important to her. We were supposed to get together for a girl's night this week, and she bailed on that. Compiled with the fact that she ditched me three times in the last month, only shows up to group functions for an hour and then leaves, will interrupt when I'm talking or just plain not listen, and then was dishonest about the wedding costs (a simple "I'm not sure I can afford it" from the start would have been nice)...really just makes me feel like this friendship is done. I feel like I see how much my friendship really means to her (not a lot), and it hurts. But I'm glad this all happened now and not months away from the wedding. Has anyone else had this happen? Where a wedding party member bails and shows their true colours? Sorry for the long vent! Obviously I needed to get it out, lol.
