I thought I posted this last night.. but I guess it didn't go through.. Ignore the wording, I'm terrible at it so my fiance is working on it. :o)

I was thinking about printing this on 110 lb index cardstock that I bought by mistake this weekend rather than letting it go to waste.  I will add this in the envelope with our DIY Magnetic Save the Dates.  Thoughts?

Looks fantastic - I think you have done a great job integrating orange and pink into this!!  I love the whimsy of it :)

I'm new to this site. My FI and I got engaged 4 months ago and we decided on a destination wedding. We are currently thinking of secrets wild orchid but have yet to make up our minds. Which is fine since we wont be getting married till 2014 (We have loads of time!). I've been looking at all the resorts in Jamaica and so far love secrets. The problem is, is that my FI family and friends are on a low budget so I'm not sure if they would be able to afford it. We're also not sure if we should go with the TA route or do it ourselves.  We're in the GTA area so if anyone knows any good TA or have any suggestions and tips would be great!!  I should mention that my FI and I have never gone to any kind of resort before and we're pretty excited about going.

Just a heads up Secrets chains tend be rather pricey -- I priced them out earlier this year for my winter 2013 wedding and quotes came back around $3k per person for 1 week!  Great location I'm sure but might be hard on your budget!

My one cousin (the one complaining about the price) was saying that she's stayed at resorts with her husband for $1500 total the two of them. I just wanted to say, "what kind of resort are you staying at that's THAT cheap, and do you really think that's where I want to spend my wedding week?!"

Exactly!  I also think some people don't realize that when you are planning a wedding you can't wait to do a better deal last minute because there might not be sufficient room on the flight over or at the resort.  So yes, prices may get cheaper closer to the date but if you want a guarantee that you will definitely have a seat on the plane and room at the resort than you best book with our group!

They were not too happy with the price ranges we told them we were expecting. The next day my aunt sends me an email with a link to a groupon for a resort in the Dominican. Um, thank you, even though that resort is not even in the same city as my venue. She also sent me a link to a "love boat" cruise line where you can get married by the ship's captain. Thank for trying to plan my wedding for me...?

Same cousin freaked out when I told her we were expecting the resort prices to be $1500 per person. She said the price was too high and that she would book on her own, because she was assuming that our wedding costs were included in the prices and that's why they were so high for guests. Yes, you're right, I'm trying to get my guests to pay for my wedding... *eye roll*

Another cousin said to my mom, "I hope your meal at the wedding is included so you don't have to pay for it." What?! I don't even know what to think of that question.

It's true though, a lot of people's rudeness has to do with money.

I don't think $1500 pp is too high at all - people need to recognize that a 3 star resort that you get for a great deal (ie under $1k pp) might be great for spring break or a last minute trip but it is not necessarily the ideal location for a wedding!

I am a teacher and I'm not even planning my for a holiday -- its bumps the prices up like crazy and it means the resorts could be full of children...no thanks, my vacation (wedding, no less) is just that a vacation!

Where did you get your dresses from??  I am considering convertible dresses for my girls but haven't done too much research yet.

I've checked Club Monaco, Aritzia, Banana Republic, Bebe, BCBG.... nothing so far. I'm looking for purples or greys - light in weight bc we will be in Cabo in Novemberc 2012. I'm in Vancouver so am considering heading to Seattle to Macy's or Nordstroms if I can't find anything. But before I set that in motion - I thought I'd check if anyone had seen any dresses out and about that could work. thanks!!

Maybe Le Chateau -- especially as its prom season?  You can check out their dress shop online to see if there is anything that interests you!

To give you a little history, my parents divorced when I was three and my dad remarried about 8 years ago. My fiancé and I have been together for 11 years and have 2 kids.

My dad's wife is a travel agent so obviously I asked her to help me with getting rates and figuring out all the travel details.  I told her what dates I was thinking about and where I wanted to go. After they got back from Europe she got back to me with the rates and at the end of our conversation she told me that her and my dad might not be going.

Now, I guess I'm in shock that my father would even consider not being there for me on my day. Especially considering they go on 6 trips a year.  I really don't know what to do?! I always thought that my dad would walk me down the isle.

Have you talked to your Dad directly about this?  Maybe in a conversation you could get to the bottom of why he may not attend - if you understood his thinking on it maybe you can offer some counter points to his reasons.  Family dynamics can be tricky, especially around weddings when parents are split so hopefully you can work something out :)  Good luck!

So, I have a question for the ladies who are close to their wedding date. I went for my first fitting last week and am having some second thoughts. When I bought my dress in September I loved it so much I cried. The woman helping me said my face lit up when I put it on. However, part of me is wondering if I made a mistake! I went with a simple light weight beachy dress. It is one shoulder and has some beading, but nice and flowy! I guess it is not a traditional princess wedding dress and I am thinking maybe I should have done that! I think the other problem was the dress at the fitting was huge and so I couldn't tell what it will really look like until they fix it, but am I crazy? Am I the only one thinking this??!! Help!!

    Lauren

I haven't been in this situation but maybe it's just a grass is always greener type thing?  I'm sure your dress is beautiful, maybe it just other stresses and nerves manifesting itself this way? Especially since as you said the dress was fitting quite large and you had a hard time envisioning the final fitted product?  You fell for this dress once, so like the other girls have said, once you have everything in place I'm sure you'll get those feelings again!

And thank you!!... I was really worried about our font choices. :o)

Are you ladies having an AHR? If so, are you including a note with your Save the Dates that mention one?

I am having an AHR but right now all the details are TBD so I am just mentioning that if you can't attend our Mexican nupitals we hope you can join us for the AHR after we return....of course it sounds a little more polished than that ;)

As for font choices, I have always hated trying to pick fonts (for newsletters, promotional things etc) so I left that in FI  capable hands - lol!

We are going to print these on cardstock and attach magnetic tape to the back.

I was trying to keep these coordinated with our wedding colors.. Pink and Orange.. But I really didn't like the orange on them.. Should I also change those orange lines to pink? Other color options or fonts are greatly appreciated. :o)

I understand how you would like to incorporate orange but I think I'd  to change the line to pink...in my opinion the orange doesn't really have enough presence so either amp it up with orange elsewhere or change the lines to pink.  I love the font choices though!!  Looks great!

Our quote is thru Air Transat and we booked with Robert Q travel (locate agent).  We put down our deposit which held 15 rooms for 90 days starting May 1 (our immediate family and wedding party booked prior to that).  For 1 week at Now Jade in early February we are paying around $1400/pp all in.  Compared to other quotes we were satisfied with that.  When we first starting pricing (in February I believe) our quotes were coming in closer to $2000 pp (or more for different resorts).

Plus, if any one ever wants a paper invite from us or if we want to keep one for a scrapbook, I can just print it out. Easy peasy.

Electronic is also more reliable than good old Canada Post -- whenever I have to send real mail I'm amazed at how much mail they can lose!

I am really pretty open for a date.  I picked March 9th because I am in Education and it would roll right into Spring Break.  The deciding factor between March and either June or July will be prices. I  know islands have PEAK and OFF PEAK - Which of these months are cheaper in airfare/accommodations?

I'm also in education and I am taking a week off (unpaid) in February for our trip -- my principal is super and was all for it, heck he will probably try to figure out a way to get me paid while I'm away.  We thought that a winter vacation would be more appealing for some guests and we also got a great price so for us it made sense.  I can tell you that March break will definitely be pricey and busy in the airport and resort.  If you do decide to go at that time definitely look for adult-only resorts (or ones that kids don't stay free) otherwise the resort will be full of children also on March break ;)
