  2. Hi.. I am having over 50 people and having a plated dinner ( on the deck )... we are doing a 3 option dinner that is going to go out with the invitations because the hotel needs to know 1 month in advance since normally they only allow one dinner option & i cant have that. If you tell Yamina exactly what you want.. she will work it out for you- it will cost extra however. I am having the most expensive food plan but thats a big deal for us so to us its worth it. and my wedding is in feb. and i have no filled out those forms yet.. i dont think theres any rush with that! lots of luck ;)

Random questions (You guys are the best, and your answers are always honest)

Has anyone used Juan Navarro as their photographer instead of Adventure photos.  Do the photography prices jump a little if you do?

With the plated dinner, was there any issues with having a large party (40-50) ppl?  Yamina recommends a buffet, but im not sure if I want to do that.

Sorry for the questions.  I'm freaking out a bit.

    Thanks everyone!  Happy hump day!!

  3. Im in Brooklyn so we are probably having the same flight problems... everything is very expensive right now I am actually worried for my guests!! I am estimating my weddign at around 20,000 total.. and hope not to go above this but I think I am still leaving stuff out. I just feel the welcome dinner is where they are taking advantage because those guests can go eat for free seperatly but if we sit together we have to pay... ? anyway hope the flights go down a little for both of us!!

  4. Hi everyone, I have been absent from here for a little while and am trying to catch up but i need opinions.. my fiance and I feel differently about when we should actually get married since we are doing the symbolic ceremony at dreams on 2.22.13...

I feel we should get married before so that when we are there with our friends and family we are celebrating the marriage (that already took place)..

He feels we should do it right after because if we are already married what is the sense in the whole walking down the isle, exchanging vows thing if in fact we are already husband and wife. He feels we can just come back and sign the papers but the symbolic ceremony is our wedding and we are considered married after it.. but i might be dissapointed when i realize the next day we are actually still not really married LOL

    I NEED OPINIONS!!!! thank you!!

  5. Hi, im being nosy now and am very curious as to where your guests are staying and why you guys didnt choose drc ? also what would make you choose it for the wedding but not stay there ? let me know maybe im missing some important details ;)

  6. I completely agree that they are ripping us off with this. we are paying for a meal that is already paid for. i wanted to do a welcome dinner but I may not just because it is a total scheme on behalf of the hotel. I am a little turned off by this to be honest.

for the welcome dinner/ rehearsal dinner did anyone go with the two options of...(from gina's email)

About the Rehearsal dinner on the Restaurant:

15 usd plus  11% tax and 15% service charge per person, to reserve an area for the group and the restaurant can be opened  to  the public.

This charges apply because this a special amenity that we do for our weddings, since we can´t make  reservations for our restaurants, it is first serve, so in order for us to guarantee that the whole group will sit in the same area, we need to make reservation. ( menu from the Restaurant).

For private event on the  Beach.

35 usd plus 11% tax and 15% service charge per person, and you can choose a buffet ( minimum 25 people),  or set menu ( drinks included).

or did you guys just all show up to a restaurant at the same time and sit down...

is it just me or does everyone feel like were being ripped off considering everyone is already paying for an all inclusive vacation YET every single thing we are all going to do together is an extra charge???!!

  7. Hi everyone. I havent been on in a little but just wanted to share this about the dinner options... so i emailed Yamina and told her I cannot choose ONE entree for all my guests and she agreed to give me 3 dinner options (lamb chops, chicken, & steak), that as long as I tell her how many of each one month in advance they will have it prepared. So if there is something you want- ASK. for me having one entree choice was impossible and I am sooo glad I was persistant. It is costing us more obviously, but to me its worth it.

....So now I guess when I send out my invitations I will include a card with the menu options and have my guests fill it out with their response cards.... does that sound like the way to do this ? would u find it wierd to pick ur entree months be4 the wedding ? I think its my only option! Feedback appreciated ;) and incase ur wondering we are getting married 2.22.13 and having about 50 people on the deck.

  8. can anyone tell me what the platinum dinner menu is ? i have asked Yamina for it a few times and she only sends me silver and gold. we are doing the ultimate package and will pay extra for a better dinner but she hasnt sent the menu.. does it exist ???? also in the brochure i see an option for "special menu" does that basically just mean if you make the menu yourself ? thanx for your help.

  9. I agree with you and I am adding an hour to my reception as well. i actually think when people are mingling, eating, and dancing time is going to FLY..  i want as little amount of other things to go on as to not take away from the fun aspect of it. I have been to many weddings where its constant * sit... stand... sit.. stand * and when you are drinking and dancing its actually very ANNOYING.. this is just my opinion for those who want to incorporate games.. i reallly think time is going to fly and you will be happier just letting everyone enjoy themselves rather than taking up time with activities. just my opinion!! remember its a destination wedding.. the fun is the beach.. the ocean... the drinks... the music... i would not enjoy games if i were a guest

See I guess I was worried that the 3 hours included in the reception wouldn't be long enough for; dinner, cake cutting, first dances, speeches, bouquet toss, dancing (can't forget) etc traditional things.  So I guess I never even thought about adding something like a game!  I think I am so nervous about the 3 hours... I actually added an hour on.  On a side note, I attended a wedding that had stuff taped to the bottom of chairs and if it was your chair, you won something!  It was kinda fun!  Good luck!  Let me know what you guys decide!

  10. Hey... this sounds beautiful do you have a picture ? are u bringing them yourself ?

I didnt want to spend alot of money on centrepieces either.

My centrepieces will be a mirror plate with LED pillar candles and silk rose buds in the centre of the plate. Very simple and cheap!

I'm planning on taking the LED candles back home with me :)

  11. I also think the centerpieces are overpriced.. i am going to be having more tables than that and it seems a little ridiculous also im not sure if its even necessary!! I do not have any ideas as of yet but im looking fwd to see what others think!!

  12. THANK U for your response I appreciate it.. i thought i had seen some slideshows from them as well and they all look beautiful so yes I will use them also ( just havent heard anything about videographer and i def. want a video!! ) As far as the DJ I am happy to hear that he is good to contact and can play whatever is asked... i will use him as well then also! I am going to have someone from home help make me a playlist that would keep everyone dancing and really make my guests happy and send it to him. I believe itll be worth the time so that there is no question about the music being bad.. i have to assume that people who did not like the music did not contact him and send him a list!! i hope!! Thank you for your help!
Is your reception on the deck? Mine is and im wondering if i should do the dancefloor? Im thinking i might as well...

I am happy to be using the resort photographer because I am extremely pleased with all the slideshows I've seen. I've heard just through this forum that Anel is the person to go with for photography so we booked her. She is very fast at responding to all emails and is very helpful.

I've been iffy about the DJ just because not many people have posted reviews about him. He's been great to work with so far and I don't really think the music can be terrible if you give him your exact play list. He said he can get any music you want on your play list. We are going to use him just because it's easier than having to download all the music ourselves and have someone from our wedding party run the sound system. I am hoping it all works out!

  13. Hi Girls.. does anyone have a review on the DJ that the resort offers and the photographers... i have seen some beautiful posts but im  consfused about if everyone hires outside photographers... i think it would be so much easier to use the dj they provide along with their photography and videographers..... anyone have any info on them and know anything about them ? thank you i think someone said the resorts DJ was great but i jsut read a review on trip advisor where a girl says the music was terrible... i have a friend coming to the wedding who is a DJ maybe I should ask him to make us playlists???? ahhh help

  14. Okay i need to be talked off the ledge here..... i just went to our travel agent we were using and found out that the weekend we chose is one of the MOST expensive of all weekends. Presidents weekend is the weekend b4 so we stood clear of it yet somehow it is about 500$ cheaper per person. I already sent out my save the dates & i am soooooooooooooooo upset/nervous now. I didn't want my guests to pay a ridiculous price. my fiance and i went to drc last year for 4 nights & had a preffered club room for 1100$ a person..... for the weekend of our wedding 3 nights is $1600 a person and its a garden view room!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( we are traveling from new york )

WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN MY SHOES? DO I CHANGE THE DATE & SEND EVERYONE LETTERS EXPLAINING WHAT HAPPENED OR DO I JUST SAY O WELL AND HAVE THE WEDDING THAT WEEKEND ANYWAY ? this is a total nightmare.... =( all advice is welcomed!!!!

  15. Hi! I used magnetstreet.com... and chose the names written in the sand magnet... i don't want to overdo the beach theme so im not going to use similar invitations but i thought for the save the dates it was a cute idea becaue it sorta set the tone. on it i have the date obviously.. our names... "dreams riviera cancun" and the free website i made from theknot.com. they came very fast and were very nicely done..

  16. Thank you to everyone who responded .. i appreciate it!! Yamina actually just answered me as well and YES plated dinners are allowed on the deck.. so now i jsut have to decide which I would rather. I emailed her about the "one entree" for everyone deal and told her it would be impossible. I am hoping this isnt true because its ridiculous. ALSO does anyone know if there is in fact a "platinum" dinner menu. I keep asking her to send all the menus and she just keeps sending silver and gold. I see on the brochure it says platinum as well... ( we are doing the ultimate package so i figure I want to see all the options )

and lastly..... i am using a local travel agent but i feel since we are booking so many rooms we should get a nice deal from the hotel.. does anyone have information on this ? How many rooms need to be booked and how does this process take place.. i cant imagine not getting something off with the amount of rooms that will be booked for my wedding... let me know if you know!!! happy planning everyone!!

  17. Hello All,

I have another question, I don't like the menu options so we are basically creating our own menus.... Yamina wrote back to me that I dont have to have a buffet and I can do a plated dinner... but we are having the reception on the deck infront of the infinity pool and at first we were told we could only do a buffet... Im just wondering if maybe she is confused or if this is really possible. Im not sure which I would choose anyway but the buffet menus really dont look good to me at all !!! HELP and if any of u designed ur own menus was it difficult or did u just take different things from each menu and from the restaurants at dreams ?? I can tell the food options are going to be the biggest pain in the butt for me because we want our guests to have high quality delicious food!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    wedding 2.22.13

    Thanx

  18. Kelly, Dreams Cancun is a different hotel,. they have the same owners but this thread is for Dreams Riviera Cancun.. its in the Riviera Maya.... just wondering if thats whats you meant or if you are on the wrong thread!! if you type in dreamsresortsandspa you can get their main website with all of the different hotel information

I am new to this fourm and thread. My fiance and I are thinking about getting married at Dreams Cancun. Who is the wedding coordinator there and what is her email address? Also, has any brides  used an outside photographer? I see blogs online for photographers that have photographed weddings and TTD sessions at Dreams. I was thinking of using one of those people, and booking a room for the photographer for the night at Dreams to avoid the vendor charge. Have any other brides done this?

He is very prompt at responding to emails so I would say any questions you may have he should be able to help.  I did also see a review maybe about 10-15 pages back of a bride who just got married there and said not to worry at all since he was GREAT!

  20. Yay congrats.. we are having a pretty big wedding, not really sure exactly how many people but we are expecting around 50 or so.... its hard to tell until the invitations go out and we get the responses, but we are doing the beach ceremony and pool deck reception :) I dont have any plans in place really yet except that I have been emailing Yamina back and forth about changing menu options ( none of them are too appealing to us.. but when we were at dreams we loved the food ) and with other questions. Aside from choosing the locations I havent done much else besides send out my save the dates... I plan to get working on it soon! How are your plans coming along ?

  21. Hi Girls, does anyone have a review on the DJ that the resort offers... my guests are the type to dance all night and the music is VERY important. I also want him to have a microphone to be able to maybe announce us and our bridal party... any reviews on him or should we look elsewhere !?

    Our wedding. 2/22/13

Any other Feb, 2013 brides on here !? I hope we picked a good month!!!!

  22. From my understanding if u are having it outside on the pool deck u have to do a buffet. By pool deck do u mean the deck infront of the main pool or jsut the grounds around the pool? Either way my coordinator told me it is buffet only! Im going with the deck becasue I dont mind the buffet.. i think its more relaxed and lets people choose when they want to eat
