  1. hey everyone i have a question .. . .. .. im getting married feb 22nd and have not held rooms yet. We are using a regular travel agent and are waiting for jetblue to put up the packages before we tell anyone what the prices are because jetblue usually has good deals and has put up flights as of the weeend BEFORE our wedding... so we assume its coming soon.. however we dont have a block of rooms reserved yet... are we making a mistake ? can we hold rooms if we want to do a package deal with flight and hotel and the flights arent up yet ? of can we only hold rooms if we do air and hotel seperately. I want to do it together because it seems to be cheaper that way.. even cheaper than the deal DRC gives you. im going to need about 25 rooms.... i would ask Lorena but she hasnt answered my 1st email yet so i figure sending another would just make the wait longer. im really dissapointed in the lack of response from her especially when switching from yamina you would thin kshe would write back to make us feel comfortable!! i mainly just want to know that she knows all of my info and agrees to everything yamina told me i would be getting.. def. not happy with this process right now! grr
  2. Congratulations!!! I just thought id give my insight which is that 4pm is a little early... i think the pool closes around 6-630 and at 4pm if you do it at the gazeebo there will definetly be people watching it take place and might be in the backround of your pictures. i was there last june and i watched this take place & actually felt a little bad for the bride ( but it depends on how much privacy you want ). if you want more privacy I would do the ceremony on the beach because it tends to be a little less crowded. you have to figure tho by the time the ceremony and cocktail hour ends.. there wont be a lot of people left in the pool. as far as the reception goes I would also start that around 6-630 as people then start to leave the pool.... if it starts anytime before that there will def. be people floating around in the backround. im doing my cocktail hour on the beach also because its a little more private but i think they also use the outside of desires which is pretty private and the jacuzzi area.
  3. Hi girls, thanx to all of you who post your reviews and pictures!!! I have a quick question, does anyone have a review on the mariachi trio, i think a set is included in the ultimate package that im doing. it honestly is something i never really pictured at my wedding but now im starting to feel like.. heck its mexico & itll be a hoot.. i would have them playing during the cocktail hour which im having the lounge furniture set up on the beach for... did any of you guys do the lounge furniture on the beach cocktail hour and have an opinion on it ? mariachi trio ? i always wanted a saxaphone player during my cocktail hour but its a little pricey... thanx for any insight.. good luck to everyone whos getting close!! - im jealous ANY OTHER FEBRUARY BRIDES ON HERE !?!??
  4. Hi Tammy, I picked Feb 22nd as my date and I was wondering if you had any insight on February... its actually much more expensive than i thought it would be. I thought from march on prices would pick up, but that weekend is VERY high (eve though the holiday weekend is the weekend before ). I also read that February is very dry and rainfail is not likely to occur, thats why we chose that month but now i am starting to hear different..... ive been to mexico in january and the weather was perfect except for the sun setting a little too early for my liking, but otherwise it was amazing,,, so i was expecting the same for February... did i make a mistake !?!??! 5. I have emailed Lorena too and not heard back, but I guess we just all have to be patient. I hope DRC hires more girls if she is really the only one. I think i am going to skip out on the OOT bags, i am not sure yet how many people i am having but it may be over 50 and it jsut seems like a TON of work but does anyone have any other cute idea I can do besides this ? Also I want to order personalized fans and maracas for the ceremony, do i have to bring these with me, or can i have them shipped to the resort ahead of time.. i hate the thought of traveling with a million bags because i will be traveling with a 3 year old! any insight would be appreciated
  6. AHHHHHHHHHHHHH i just got an email from Yamina that she will not longer be my coordinator and a girl named Lorena will be. Yamina is going to the new AM resort in Cancun.. she said Lorena has all my info but should I be scared !?!?!?!?!??!?!
  7. I really like this idea. Where are you putting this ... liek is the hotel going to hand it out as the guests come ? I might not do OOT bags because i might be having too many people so any suggestions on how I would get my itinerary to my guests ?
  8. My personal opinion is that you made the right choice... i feel like I would rather cut back on other things and make sure the music is great if i had to choose. I think people will be more worried about having fun than other little details.. and good music can really make the party. I also am curious about them announcing the wedding party and all of that because thats also what i want!! Anyone who is trying to decide btwn the DJ or no DJ, GET THE DJ... i also i remember hearing that you can email him way in advance and let him know your style of music and even give him a play list. if anyone has had the dj and had their wedding party announced.. let us know Quote: Originally Posted by RollerBride I JUST made the decision to go with the DJ. The cost for the sound system (ceremony) and the DJ for 3 hours, after tax is $1200. We don't really have room in our budget to be making such changes, but all in all I feel like it will save us the piece of mind. I won't have to prepare playlists and instruct someone how and when to cue them up. For anyone who has used the resort DJs, do they have microphones? Will they announce your wedding party? announce the dances? announce cake cutting? Will they cater to your style of music? Are they pretty flexible? Do I just provide them with a timeline of events throughout the recption with approximate times?
  9. Thanx for your help, I am doing the ultimate package but am going to pay extra for the additional videographer, thank you for letting me know they did not do a good job because I will speak to them about this before hand. Also I really feel bad about the way your wedding turned out to the point I have been looking at other hotels ...... do you think I should consider other hotels, i mean its costing me a pretty penny and I have very high expectations, if you could do it over would you have gone some where else ?
  10. Hi everyone, I love the videos all the recently married girls are posting but my question is, is that something extra the photographer gives u or is that the whole wedding video? I want a video of my reception with the dances and speaches and all that... so im a little confused. i love the slideshow that you all are posting they are amazing, but do you also have an actualy wedding video like shows the whole party ? is this just something extra they throw in ? i want to make sure i get both! a
  11. SOOn2BEMRSLOZADA, Thank you so much for your review. your wedding looked amazing & u looked beautiful... i am happy to hear that the ballroom is great because my biggest fear is rain on my wedding day so that is a relief. I wanted to know where you got your beautiful flower arrangements on the gazebo on the beach... ( the round orange balls of flowers... i dont know what its called ) I WANT THEM!!!! let me know please thank u!!
  12. Congrats and good luck.. i am not sure when you wrote this and if the wedding happened already but i cant wait to see the review. I also wanted my wedding party to be introduced and to walk in to the reception rather than just showing up but I wasnt sure how it would go, please let us know when you get back how the DJ was and how it worked with the different music and your wedding party walking into the reception! cant wait to hear about it, hope all went well!!! Also haven't made any decisions about the timing of the reception with when to cut the cake and stuff... We picked a different song for each of our wedding party to enter in with...but they don't know what song it is! LOL...so like our super tall thin friend is coming in to "will the real slim shady please stand up",. They are all pretty funny! Any insight or help with the music stuff? We have a DJ so I guess I'm just thinking I'll leaving it up to him except for our father/daughter, first dance and mother son songs... Happy planning!! Katie
  13. Hi, I was asking the same question and my fiance and I decided that we are going to get legally married as soon as we get back... I originally wanted to get legally married right before we went but he wanted to do it right after so we agreed on that. We feel like when we are there to us we will be really married, and when we get home we will just sign the paper work. He feels if we do it before hand when we get there it wont be as exciting since we are already married... if that makes sense. Do whatever makes you feel comfortable. Also incase you are confused.. mexico doesn't care if u ever get legally married, you could go do the symbolic ceremony and never actually legalize it for all they care, so you do whatever makes you happy. The day of our wedding at dreams is our real wedding to us and the anniversary we will celebrate. To do the symbolic ceremony there which is what I am doing, I don't think any paperwork is really needed at all. All the documentation is if u do a legal wedding there and that info is on their website. Hope I helped. Quote: Originally Posted by NJ2012 OK GUYS WE NEED HELP!!! we, like most of us, are doing the symbolic ceremony- since it is way easier. what i need to know is WHEN ARE YOU GETTING LEGALLY MARRIED? what documents do they need when we go to mexico? are you going to town hall/your church a few days before mexico or a month before? we have been going back and forth about this for a while. but we know its easier to get the info from the professionals on this board then the people at dreams! thanks... respond here or email me! 14. Hi everyone, I am actually getting married at Dreams Riviera Cancun on Feb 22, 2013 and recently have been wondering if I should have chosen Dreams Cancun instead. I have been to DRC but never to dreams cancun. I am starting to see that its more affordable for my guests and in a better location. Does anyone have an opinion on this ? DRC is a beautiful property so I was excited about it but it keeps going up in cost. The pictures from Dreams Cancun leave me a little nervous because the hotel looks much older....... has anyone maybe been to both and can tell me why they chsoe this hotel instead ? thank you soo much!

  16. Hi.. I am having over 50 people and having a plated dinner ( on the deck )... we are doing a 3 option dinner that is going to go out with the invitations because the hotel needs to know 1 month in advance since normally they only allow one dinner option & i cant have that. If you tell Yamina exactly what you want.. she will work it out for you- it will cost extra however. I am having the most expensive food plan but thats a big deal for us so to us its worth it. and my wedding is in feb. and i have no filled out those forms yet.. i dont think theres any rush with that! lots of luck Quote: Originally Posted by bgarcia1026 Hey guys, Eva just introduced me to my wedding coordinator, Yamina. I really don’t want to have to pick out my wedding flowers when it’s a year before my wedding, unless I really have to. I rather just pick out my ceremony, cocktail and reception locations now and have the other stuff wait until I am really sure of what I want. Random questions (You guys are the best, and your answers are always honest) Has anyone used Juan Navarro as their photographer instead of Adventure photos. Do the photography prices jump a little if you do? With the plated dinner, was there any issues with having a large party (40-50) ppl? Yamina recommends a buffet, but im not sure if I want to do that. Sorry for the questions. I'm freaking out a bit. Thanks everyone! Happy hump day!!
  17. Im in Brooklyn so we are probably having the same flight problems... everything is very expensive right now I am actually worried for my guests!! I am estimating my weddign at around 20,000 total.. and hope not to go above this but I think I am still leaving stuff out. I just feel the welcome dinner is where they are taking advantage because those guests can go eat for free seperatly but if we sit together we have to pay... ? anyway hope the flights go down a little for both of us!! Quote: Originally Posted by LindseyM Well when I say $10,000, I didn't count our fights or stays...just the wedding. From NJ our flights were $668. 18. Hi everyone, I have been absent from here for a little while and am trying to catch up but i need opinions.. my fiance and I feel differently about when we should actually get married since we are doing the symbolic ceremony at dreams on 2.22.13... I feel we should get married before so that when we are there with our friends and family we are celebrating the marriage (that already took place).. He feels we should do it right after because if we are already married what is the sense in the whole walking down the isle, exchanging vows thing if in fact we are already husband and wife. He feels we can just come back and sign the papers but the symbolic ceremony is our wedding and we are considered married after it.. but i might be dissapointed when i realize the next day we are actually still not really married LOL I NEED OPINIONS!!!! thank you!!
  19. Hi, im being nosy now and am very curious as to where your guests are staying and why you guys didnt choose drc ? also what would make you choose it for the wedding but not stay there ? let me know maybe im missing some important details Quote: Originally Posted by Dominique 161 Hello All 28 of my guests are coming from a different resort. 20. I completely agree that they are ripping us off with this. we are paying for a meal that is already paid for. i wanted to do a welcome dinner but I may not just because it is a total scheme on behalf of the hotel. I am a little turned off by this to be honest. Quote: Originally Posted by NJ2012 anyone? also one more... for the welcome dinner/ rehearsal dinner did anyone go with the two options of...(from gina's email) About the Rehearsal dinner on the Restaurant: 15 usd plus 11% tax and 15% service charge per person, to reserve an area for the group and the restaurant can be opened to the public. This charges apply because this a special amenity that we do for our weddings, since we can´t make reservations for our restaurants, it is first serve, so in order for us to guarantee that the whole group will sit in the same area, we need to make reservation. ( menu from the Restaurant). For private event on the Beach. 35 usd plus 11% tax and 15% service charge per person, and you can choose a buffet ( minimum 25 people), or set menu ( drinks included). or did you guys just all show up to a restaurant at the same time and sit down... is it just me or does everyone feel like were being ripped off considering everyone is already paying for an all inclusive vacation YET every single thing we are all going to do together is an extra charge???!!
  21. Hi everyone. I havent been on in a little but just wanted to share this about the dinner options... so i emailed Yamina and told her I cannot choose ONE entree for all my guests and she agreed to give me 3 dinner options (lamb chops, chicken, & steak), that as long as I tell her how many of each one month in advance they will have it prepared. So if there is something you want- ASK. for me having one entree choice was impossible and I am sooo glad I was persistant. It is costing us more obviously, but to me its worth it. ....So now I guess when I send out my invitations I will include a card with the menu options and have my guests fill it out with their response cards.... does that sound like the way to do this ? would u find it wierd to pick ur entree months be4 the wedding ? I think its my only option! Feedback appreciated and incase ur wondering we are getting married 2.22.13 and having about 50 people on the deck.
  22. can anyone tell me what the platinum dinner menu is ? i have asked Yamina for it a few times and she only sends me silver and gold. we are doing the ultimate package and will pay extra for a better dinner but she hasnt sent the menu.. does it exist ???? also in the brochure i see an option for "special menu" does that basically just mean if you make the menu yourself ? thanx for your help.
  23. I agree with you and I am adding an hour to my reception as well. i actually think when people are mingling, eating, and dancing time is going to FLY.. i want as little amount of other things to go on as to not take away from the fun aspect of it. I have been to many weddings where its constant * sit... stand... sit.. stand * and when you are drinking and dancing its actually very ANNOYING.. this is just my opinion for those who want to incorporate games.. i reallly think time is going to fly and you will be happier just letting everyone enjoy themselves rather than taking up time with activities. just my opinion!! remember its a destination wedding.. the fun is the beach.. the ocean... the drinks... the music... i would not enjoy games if i were a guest Quote: Originally Posted by Ktcblue2012 See I guess I was worried that the 3 hours included in the reception wouldn't be long enough for; dinner, cake cutting, first dances, speeches, bouquet toss, dancing (can't forget) etc traditional things. So I guess I never even thought about adding something like a game! I think I am so nervous about the 3 hours... I actually added an hour on. On a side note, I attended a wedding that had stuff taped to the bottom of chairs and if it was your chair, you won something! It was kinda fun! Good luck! Let me know what you guys decide!
  24. I also think the centerpieces are overpriced.. i am going to be having more tables than that and it seems a little ridiculous also im not sure if its even necessary!! I do not have any ideas as of yet but im looking fwd to see what others think!!
