Week in and week out I see ceremonies on the beach or grass overlooking the beach in Martoca Beach Garden and though most have much in common I find that a few details can make all the difference. If you have a nice budget the decorations will be plentiful and expensive flowers may be ordered and arranged and it will look amazing most of the time. Although I have seen some decorators with a great budget ruin a ceremony gazebo or just go through the motions that the decorations fall flat. In my opinion it is not the budget that makes the ceremony gazebodecoration special necessarily, although it sure helps, it is more than this. It is the attention to detail, the color combinations and originality displayed by the designer in conjuction with the bride as their ideas are the ones that will ultimately create a stunning arrangement that will be unique and memorable for the couple and guests to enjoy upon sunset time Mishka, a great designer and friend of mine, whose decorations and ingeniuty I love and respect, will work tirelessly to understand first and foremost the bride´s concept of her wedding and works off of their inspiration board where she will ask the bride to tell her what colors, ideas, pictures she has seen, themes, or anything she may want to use in her wedding decorations. Since the gazebo is always a key and one of the highlights of every wedding she splurges with creativity over this feature. Many decorations are expensive yet some as we previously mentioned are based on creativity, labor intensive art and natural sources and this will be what we focus on on this article since most bride´s work on a budget we try to stretch it as much as possible without losing the classy look. Flowers, seeds, fruits, driftwood and much more materials are all available around the area. Wonderful flowers are in season and free for the picking in the tropics such as Buganvileas as well as Oblelisk, Copa de Oro and JazmÃn and a few others which are all fantastic for decorating. A few accents of special flowers will lift the ceremony gazebo to new hights yet, the base could be absolutely from native flowers and bushes. Tonalá is a wonderful place to find all the handicrafts and original art you can think of and it is only 4 hours away. We have many decorations made there and share them with our brides. We are blessed to have inexpensive labor which makes art here in Mexico a great bargain. labor intensive art produces unique and fantastic decorations and ceremony gazebos. When selecting a ceremony gazebo you have to first decide if you want any gazebo at all! Some couple just get married on the sand without a table or anything at all since the ceremonies are usually symbolic. If the marriage will be held here legally the bride has some religious or family traditions to tend to then a ceremony area and sometimes a Chupah is a must. This can be as simple as an arch as below or a more complex gazebo or kiosk as seen above that can be set up on the beach or grass as decided by the couple. There are many different sizes and designs of the structure as an arch, gazebo, 4 pilars, rectangular, square, circular, natural palapa, ans so on, however once you have the structure as a base then decoration begins; although sometimes it is the feature in itself and not needed to be decorated. This depends on te structure and of course, you guessed it, the budget. The two main parts of decoration are flowers and materials. The variety is such that we cannot go into this in one session but it could vary from any type of flower and any type of cloth or material like silk, satin, cotton, gause... Here in Puerto Vallarta I have seen Sarapes which are colorful and typical of the area for decorations. It truly is up to the bride and her style as to what to go with as long as it is consistent with the theme throughout the reception. Well, I hope this gives you ideas señoritas and you can start planning your ceremony with creative juices flowing wherever it is that you decide to tie the knot. We at Martoca Weddings will wish you the best and good travels.

I just saw that you asked if guests should stay in Zona Romantica.... if they rent a car yes or if they do not mind cab rides of about 20 dollars each way this is fine as well. It is not close. It is 45 miinutes to an hour depending on traffic... If you just want to see them once or twice it is OK but if you plan to see them often it will be inconvenient for everyone in my opinion. But it is a very fun and hip area to stay in for sure... tough call. I think if people want nice beaches and relaxation and just to enjoy the company of loved ones and friens stay in Nuevo Vallarta or BUcerias. if your guests are independent and want to party and chase the night life let them stay in Vallarta or they may be bored in BUcerias... I am thinking the 20 year olds... anyone above 35 will appreciate Bucerias just as well I think. Good luck! Jimmy -

Did you reserve it to stay there or just for your wedding day? Bucerias is a town that is about 45 minutes by car and about 1 hour and a half by bus from what is known as the Romantic Zone in Downtown Puerto Vallarta *because you have to swith buses at least twice and perhaps 3 times.... It is definately worth it to go by bus if you want to experience that once at least. You will save about 20 dollars. As far as Bucerias goes there is many things to do as far as shopping for souvenirs and messing around on the beach of course but dinning wise it has really taken off as well. It is a very small town and it is almost as it was 40 years ago when my family got there so it is as authentic as it gets. Except for a few gringo bars, or Canadian mostly actually, you can choose from. You will be located about 8 blocks southwest of the plaza (town square) so you will not need transportation within Bucerias. Only walk around everywhere. It is safe do not worry. i grew up there I know what I am saying and in the 70s we were the only gringos there I think. Well as far as actual good food I suggest a great place fr breakfast on the same street your Villa is on just head towards the town square and on your right about 4 blocks up you will see a breakfast place that makes their own bread... awesome. It is hard to say where to go or not go... just try a lot of different cafes and dinners are open. For a nice upscale dinner try Mark's restaurant they are about as fancy as you can get in Bucerias. A bit over priced but if you want fancy that is it. Other than that you have to go to Nuevo Vallarta or Puerto Vallarta. Nuevo Vallarta is about 5 minutes south by car and you can actually walk there (2 or 3 miles) and check out that area as well. It is basically a residencial area not much to see except houses but it is interesting if your guests do not know Mexico so the can see our "rich areas". The homes are very nice... Get some bycicles and mess around!! I hope you enjoy my town and area in general. Thank you for choosing Puerto Vallarta area and Bucerias to be precise. I strongly suggest you take a tour to Sayulita or San Pancho if you like the small town beach bum village feel.... Those towns are about 40 minutes North... Jungle and beaches and surfing.... great art work and cool vibe... So much to do and choose from hahaha sorry. I am home sick. Jimmy -

Hi there! Congratulations on your engagement. China Blanca is a villa that I believe you have to rent for 5 nights but let me check and get back to you. Have you considered a private beach garden? Where would you be staying? Jimmy -

Hello, My name is Jimmy. I have a wedding venue in Puerto Vallarta and I get requests like yours all the time. I suggest you find a place where you want to spend your honeymoon and just ask the hotel for a romantic dinner set up and get married there next to your table area. They usually can hook something up with the concierge. some hotels have a table set up in the point of a pier for example or a special area for this. If you do not want to do it at your hotel at all, then find a concierge person or ask your travel agent to help you locate one in the area you choose and ask them to handle it for you. It may cost you 200 dollars or so for the person to organize it for you but they will know the best spots and have it done stress free for you. If you want to get married and need a judge or a minister that will be arranged by them as well. Good luck! Jimmy

My 70 on 7 Rule I want to let brides know of a simple rule I use to allocate the funds for an independent garden wedding that is not in an all-inclusive hotel. I recommend 70% of the budget must go to 7 key factors. This is why I call this the 70 on 7 rule. The 7 unavoidable factors for any custom wedding are: Venue - Independent venues have different styles or regulations, check with them for details. Coordination and Staff - This includes decorator, full coordination, set/up, take/down, clean/up, hostess... Decorations - This includes lamps, cushions, colors, accents, floating candles, tiki torches.... Catering - 3 or 4 course dinner, desserts, salads, tables, chairs, dinnerware, glassware, linens... Open Bar - Full, international brands, 5 or 8 hours, special margarita bar.... DJ and Dance Floor - DJ with playlist, dance floor can be wood, plastic covering or lighted or with light shows and video screens... Ceremony - Minister or judge or both, decorated arch, chairs, table for ceremony... All else can be added if desired or if the budget allows for it. However, these 7 items are essencial for a great wedding day and are practically unavoidable, so focus on these first. That's why I suggest 70% of the budget be allocated for these items and the 30% left over can go to other important factors such as entertainment, transportation, more decorations, souvenirs, photographer and video, late night taco bar, more flowers, rehearsal dinner, tours, etc. There are so many factors that can change your expenses that it is impossible to have one size fits all budgets. At least in our case since all our weddings are custom made. Certain factors may repeat themselves often which is why the 7 core principles are the same but the devil (cost increase) is in the details as they say. There are tables that may cost 8 dollars to rent and tables that cost 400 dollars, so that alone can change your budget from 40 dollars to 2,000 dollars if 5 table are needed! That is the difference between a 10,000 dollar wedding and a 12,000 dollar wedding or a 20% increase. So always have an idea of where you want to be in your budget plan and let the coordinator know. They should accomodate any budget you have. It is a matter of finding the right vendors and quality for you. Just because it is low budget it does not have to be bad quality. Conversely, expensive does not guarantee quality either. So choose wisely. I hope this helps. Buena Suerte! Be well and stay in love, Jimmy Martoca Beach Garden Showcase Page

Congratulations on your wedding anniversary and how cool that you decided to come to Mexico to celebrate. Mexico has been in the press lately with the drug wars but this is concentrated in 7 states of which are all inland and on the border. On behalf of tourist destination business owners I would like to thank you for your support by visiting Mexican beaches. Gracias amiga y felicidades! Jimmy

Good luck Fresa! Your work is product of your passion. You are the type of person who was born to serve people and help others and it shows in your work. They say that if you find something you would do for free and do it for a living you will never work a day in your life.... You have found the key! May it take you to great places and journeys. Jimmy

AY, AY, AY! So excited to be here on Best Destination Weddings to help all you lovely senoritas who want a unique and original fabulous wedding on the WEST COAST of Mexico. Puerto Vallarta, the most romantic city by the sea in Mexico awaits you. Specifically, Martoca Beach Garden, a one in a million beachfront garden near Puerto Vallarta special for intimate fun NON-HOTEL weddings. We are at your service for all you couples and vendors who need advice on Puerto Vallarta weddings that are not ALL-Inclusive hotels. In fact, most bride's hire us because they use their wedding as a sort of "tour" to get their guests out of the hotel zone as they get to see a totally different side to the Vallarta area. We are north of PV in an area known as Riviera Nayarit... however it is only 15 minutes from a 5 star hotel area and 30 minutes from the Four Seasons and the St. Regis. Anyway, we can chat about us later, we welcome you and thank you in advance for thinking of Puerto Vallarta as your destination wedding location. Thankfully we are very far away from the border violence so this magical town, that retains its 300 year old history and Mexican charm, remains safe and friendly. Nothing compares to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean and the beaches... but if you want old Mexico charm, romance, mountains and stunning sunsets as reocurring themes throughout your vacation then we beat the Caribbean hands down. My name is Jimmy Basanez and my family and I are proud to share "La Martoca" with you. This amazing venue which originally was a hotel founded by my adventurous parents, has been in our family for 35 years. It is an honor to reintroduce it as a wedding venue for all to share on such a joyous occasion for you and your family. My wife and I got married 12 years ago and we are still in love and happy so... I guess it is guaranteed happiness Viva el Amor! Gracias For more info visit www.martoca.com or email me for advice or chat about Mexico weddings if you like... [email protected]

Cool pictures! Thank you. This will help all brides!! I am Jimmy by the way, haha. The only thing is that the first pic is the service entrance. Sorry. The main entrance has the plants covering up the fence all the way and it is the smaller of the copper gates. Just fyi. How is your wedding planning going? Thank you for all your pictures. I wish I were such a good technical person. Muchas gracias amigas and welcome! JImmy
