Rock Lobster and Beef Tenderloin Surf and Turf Seafood Hors d' Oeuvres Served During Cocktail Hour Dear Brides: When selecting a Menu it is crucial to understand what your priorities are for your guests and also, unfortunately, you must be aware of your budget limitations in most of our cases. Believe me 99% of our brides have to be careful with their budget so do not feel like you are the only ones. What I suggest for my brides is to analyze the majority of the guests and try and come up with a menu design which will please most of them and will make them feel special and that will teach them about local cuisine; and obviously we try to encourage using local produce and proteins such as rock lobster as seen here, organic vegetables, local fish like Red Snapper, Sea Bass, Marlin, Mahi-Mahi, Grass fed Beef and Fruit fed Pork and freshly caught west coast Shrimp and other specialties. My favorite way of approaching the menu selection is to first decide if you want a formal dinner or a casual "foodie" experience where local street food can shine since it is in vogue at the moment. I strongly suggest not to mix formal dinners with casual settings and decor or casual street food "foodie" or Food Truck style wedding with a elegant formal setting. It may sound good to a few people but most people do not feel like eating with their hands at an elegant formal wedding. Specially if they are wearing their best outfits. I just recommend staying consistent with your parties theme, a casual menu for a casual, fun, simple wedding and choose a fine dining menu for an elegant, amazingly decorated and formal wedding. I will write soon about how to select the actual menu and most importantly how to get the guests to tell you what they prefer to eat. That helps so much in the planning and costing of your wedding Cheers, Jimmy

Martoca replied to Martoca's topic in Puerto Vallarta Wedding Vendors
Hi Blue Petal Muchas gracias for your post. We are here in Vallarta (West Coast Canadian Territory haha) so if you have clients who need a great independent Garden on the beach for their private vows we can help. We work with hotels all the time so that is fine as well. Thank you and take care! [email protected] Jimmy -
Huppa, Gazebo, Palapa, Arch?? What to do for ceremony?
Martoca replied to Martoca's topic in Puerto Vallarta Wedding Vendors
It is a key part of your wedding for sure! Make it fun but meaningful at the same time Find a balance. DO not disrespect the vows by being too casual but you do not have to be so serious that it is boring and solemn Good luck amigos! -
Civil Vs Symbolic Ceremony
Martoca replied to Soon2BeKeeley22's topic in Destination Wedding Articles
As my friends here have said... they have no idea what they are talking about. Whomever posted that is in on it with the judge in Dominican or something hahahaahha Listen, first of all, people are joining you to celebrate with you because they love you and want to see you the happiest you have ever been; they want to be a witness to your best moment ever and that will be when you kiss eachother for the first time after you exchange your vows and exchange rings for the first time and not signing some documents. If it makes them feel better, for those few, bring a certificate from home to the beach and/or a copy of your legal papers and sign the contract right there on the beach. It really is not a big deal so ignore them. A judge in Mexico costs about 400 dollars to go marry you on the beach! And then, it is legal in the US and Canada but still you will have to go to the courthouse and get it validated anyway in the US and trust me, as a Mexican/American citizen I can tell you that having two legal "lives" in two different countries causes nothing but trouble. Sometimes I wish I was just either American OR Mexican citizen; so I can relax and not worry about the IRS and Hacienda (the Mexican IRS) at the same time! Papers, papers, and more beurocracy! Get married legally by mail. I am sure it is possible now My point is that the legal part is the least important, it is your union which matters. So do yourself a favor keep it simple and sweet, get a blessing form a preacher/priest and if I were you, I would make some legal looking contract but in a spoof kind of way Make it look official but a bit oversized so people can see it well and let it read something like this... Groom contract: I hereby donate all my bathroom space to Mrs. Keeley I hereby relinquish my Saturday's to Farmer's Market shopping Bride Contract: I hereby authorize Mr. Keeley to Wear New Balance Sneakers with Khakis I hereby relinquish my right to the TV on Sundays between 12PM and 10PM Something like that would by my style... The legal stuff is not fun or sexy and whomever thinks so is warped Good luck, have FUN with it. It is YOUR time, your day and your Marriage. The guests are there to support you and hug you and cheer you on, they will not care if it is legal or not. Viva los Novios!! Martoca's Jimmy -

HI there I am not in Punta Cana but I have been there. We are in Puerto Vallarta. Mexico but I am sure they all work the same. Your best bet is to get a wedding planner to handle all your needs. It may cost you 500 to 1000 to 1,500 dollars but you will save this in phone hassles, better rates, commodity and convenience as well as a guarantee of experience. When I deal with my brides I offer them unlimited emails, Skype and phone calls and we answer them within 24 hours. So it is not that hard if they are organized. Hotels are busy and have weddings daily and sometimes twice a day so you have to be patient if you are not going to get a professional planner to help you and go only with the hotel staff. Anyway, that is what I suggest and although I am in Mexico I am confident it is the same there as well. Good luck and if you need help with general questions of planning I am glad to help. Civil Vs Symbolic Ceremony
Martoca replied to Soon2BeKeeley22's topic in Destination Wedding Articles
HI guys! I am not in DOminican but I am sure it is the same as in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. The civil ceremony is legally binding and has paperwork and bloodwork and actual official documents and a judge involved. The symbolic ceremony is offered by someone either you pay for at the hotel, the venue or your planner finds for you OR a friend you love and trust that could say a few words. A la Meet the parents with Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson haha. Basically you can go legal, symbolic and the other one is religious but that one could only be officially recognized by the churh if you are not catholic. Catholics do not allow marriage outside of the church. They will offer a Blessing however, so that is fine if you are not religious (catholic). So, in conclusion, if you are not religious and do not care to be legally married in Dominicana then go with the symbolic ceremony and have a non-denominational spiritual "blessing" by the MC and say your vows Like I said, if you have a cool friend with style and grace and a powerful soothing voice then go with that Well, I hope this helps. Most of my brides get married in a Justice of the peace for 25 dollars in the US or Canada and have a symbolic ceremony on the beach. A few have the church wedding... Personally I did both a legal and a Blessing on the beach but I am Mexican so it was necessary and practical. www.martoca.com for more information or visit https://www.facebook.com/martocaweddings?ref=tn_tnmn if you like. I will give you tips if I can. I know it is not Dominicana but most Latin American countries are about the same Gracias Jimmy -

Have you thought about Martoca In case you cannot get a hold of Caletas perhaps you would take a look at our venue for your wedding day If you have any questions please email [email protected] for any information or questions about Vallarta if you like. Gracias Vallarta Adventures owns Caletas so if you go to their site I am sure it will lead you to Caletas tours. It is a tour actually Jimmy

Have you considered getting married in a private venue? A garden on the beach perhaps? It is fun for guests because they get to leave the resort for a day/night out and explore different food and beach and in some cases a whole different area. It is almost like a tour for them which would cost about 70 dollars a person if they booked it with the tour companies so you are giving the guests a lot for their effort of paying and going to your wedding. I have had most of my brides stay at Marival, Dreams or Villa del Palmar or the Riu... all of them are all inclusive hotels that are 15 minutes away from our venue. Our venue is called www.martoca.com and you can view our pictures and reviews here on BDW. Anyway, just ideas and thoughts for you. Also we go until 1AM for about the same price as the hotels! Take care and be happy anywhere you guys choose to marry will be great! Jimmy

If you need an alternative to the boat ride wedding and want longer hours for your party please consider www.martoca.com for your wedding reception. You can have legal an spiritual ceremonies and party until 1AM and not worry about people getting sick or wanting to leave and not being able to... just saying ! Las Caletas is beautiful and it is a great company. I just thought I would throw an alternative out there for those of you who want privacy yet need more flexibility. Either way, going out of the resort for your wedding is much more original and exciting than getting married in a hotel. That is for sure! Jimmy

Church Weddings in Puerto Vallarta In Puerto Vallarta there are 3 prominent churches available for weddings and a few others but they are not "nice". The main cathederal de Guadalupe, La Parroquia del Refugio, also downtown, and the church in the La Paz church in the Marina . If you need the official names just contact me and I can give you their contact info as well and who to talk to if you like. The important thing that I want to tell you is that they need to be booked well in advance and there is the absolute requierement of being catholic for any ceremony to be held in these churches. No valid catholic marriages can be held outside a church. The prices for donations range from about 200 usd up to 600 usd for the one in the Marina which is the most expensive, however it includes decoration, yet it is the most convenient, especially for weddings to be held on the North side. It has great parking and it is on the north, right next to the airport which in turn makes any hotel in Nuevo Vallarta a close 15 minute cab ride and Martoca would be then located 25 minutes away. Martoca is located 40 minutes away from downtown Puerto Vallarta. I could say 30 minutes like all other people who promote their business but let's get real here... 40 minute to 50 minute drive to Bucerias area is normal. It used to be 30 minutes in 1990... Anyway, some churches include the flower arrangements and others do not, so the average all in for a church with standard decorative flowers is about 600usd. The summations is this; if you need a church do it well in advance and have your catholic paperwork in order. Expect to spend 600 to 700 USD on church with decorations included and pretty much it will be a 45 minute drive if in town or 25 minutes from Marina to Bucerias area. (See below) Downtown churches distance to wedding areas....... South locations like Le Kliff, Garza Blanca, Mismaloya 30-40 minutes depends on traffic. Nuevo 30 minutes and Bucerias 40 minutes and anything beyond this it is way too far, Marina Church...............South to Le Kliff, Mismaloya, Garza Blanca area 50 minutes, Downtown area 20 minutes, Nuevo 15 minutes, Bucerias 25 minutes. If you have any more questions I will gladly help. Come visit and get married in Puerto Vallarta or any surrounding areas. I promise you it is by far the most romantic beachfront city in Mexico. Or, just come and pray for world peace:)
