  1. You definitely will not regret your decision. The GC Beach Club is in Playa but not centrally located in town like many of the hotels and resort that are 1-2 block off 5th ave. If I recall correctly, it was approximately a 10 min cab ride or less to get to the GC beach Club from 5th Ave. which is why it makes for a great private wedding venue. I didn’t think it was hard to get to, and our cabby knew exactly where we wanted to go. Do you know how long it will take to get from Soliman Bay to Playa? Fantastic choice on villas by the way! I totally wanted to rent Hacienda Caracol. I think you’re planning the wedding that my Fi and I initially wanted until we realized that it would mean going into debt, and we knew it was outside of our guests budgets too… I mourned this wedding plan for 6 weeks and almost pulled out the credit cards but the Fi and I agreed to pay for everything in cash, we don't want to start our union in debt. Great job on your wedding website too… your quote is in the movie When Harry Met Sally, that’s where I know it from anyway. I used it in a toast at my friend’s wedding.
  2. There’s nothing tacky about improvising and being creative with the details. I am actually trying to conjure up a plan ‘B’ for my ring bearer. The parents have the on again off again relationship and I don’t want to all my eggs in one basket. Any-who, let us know when you find a clam shell.
  3. correction to your correction.... www.weddingwire.com/blackapinowed2013 thanks for sharing!
  4. Welcome to BDW and the May 2013 thread. I've got to admit that I'm a bit jealous of your venue. I visited Grand Coral during a previous trip I think it's perfect for weddings. It looks like you've got a great start on your wedding planning. I think it’s fine to postpone dress shopping until September, I just wouldn’t wait much longer than that. I love that we still have a year left to plan all the details. I feel like I’ve accomplished so much and then quickly realize that there’s still much more to do. But it’s been fun, and I’m enjoying the process. Happy Planning!
  5. Thanks for sharing your website, you and your Fi did a really great job. Like PuntaBride, this is my major project for the month, so any insight that I can glean from you ladies is really helpful.
  6. That's really unfortunate for the bride and groom. This was one of the first question that I asked my TA, as it was a major concern. Once anyone makes a deposit, for a room on our block we are no longer financially responsible or accountable for that room. I advise all couples to ask these types of questions up front and to become very familiar with the terms of their room block contracts.
  7. +1, We have found that many of our friends and family love that we have decided on a destination wedding. For many, it is forcing them to take an overdue and much needed vacation. Our guest will be paying +/- $1600 for 7-night accomodations and airfare and we're getting married in May of 2013. I would also recommend working with a TA as they should be able to provide you with better rates.
  8. PuntaBride, I'm so happy that you uploaded a pic... You two are so cute together!
  9. Welcome and congrats...Looking forward to your planning updates!
  10. My fingers are crossed. Let us know how you make out

I can change my day to the 10th but I really wanted to get married on the 11th because that number is special to me. My birthday is Nov 11th, my FI birthday is Sept 11 and our daughter was born on Dec 11th. What do you guys think? +1... I would stick with the 11th and consider changing your travel dates if at all possible. I am also getting married on a Saturday and I have guests leaving on both Sunday and Monday. But the only guests tentatively leaving on Sunday are the non-alcohoic drinkers. Hangovers and plane rides are no fun.

  14. Yay, congrats on your upcoming nuptials! I do have one request. If you happen to take any walks along the beach it would be great if you can confirm where these abandoned house are located or if they still exist. I have seen photos at this location from two previous brides, but I don’t think they’re active members. One review (see link below) implies that it's walking distance next to Now Jade. I also asked this question in the webinar, but it got directed to the coordinator for Now Sapphire, who obviously wouldn’t know. I just think the location makes for a great backdrop for wedding photos, and I'm shcoked that other brides have taken photos here. The wedding review with additional photos can be found here: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/products/now-riviera-cancun-resort-spa-all-inclusive/reviews/4453
  15. Kleinfeld’s will definitely be a bridal experience to remember. I really think the answer to your question comes down to budget. For me, to factor in the cost of airfare, a hotel, and potentially sales tax (there isn’t any in OR) would be unjustifiable as it would account for approximately 25% of my dress budget. While I didn’t travel any great distances to find my dress, I did call 16 bridal boutiques to hunt down a sample that would be discounted enough to meet my budget. Of the 16 boutiques that carried the line only 5 had the specific dress, 2 of them refused to sell because the sample was less than a year old, but luckily one of them sold me my dream dress at 40% off! Granted if I played the waiting game, I probably could have gotten a better price but would have risked damage to the dress as a result of it being a sample or even worse, someone else buying the sample. Best of luck with your dress search.
  16. Glad you found us… Here’s my $.02 regarding a WC, I think there are a few factors to consider. The big question is what is the reputation of the WC at your resort/venue? Based on the reviews and feedback, is this person seemingly competent with a proven track record to execute? The size and scale of your wedding should be considered – how many people and how elaborate. How much extra coordination will be required? Are you using most of the amentities provided by your resort/venue or are contracting services from multiple off-site vendors? As far as TAs, I will only have +/- 25 guests and decided to solicit the help of a TA. I think it’s more advantageous for you and your guests to use one than not to. Of course this requires finding a great TA that you can trust and Wright Travel (BDW TAs) can point you in the right direction. I’m using Teresa Stauring and she has been fantastic to work with.
