  1. Thanks, Lynn.. Congrats to you too!. Glad to hear that you enjoyed your stay at Now Jade, I've been stalking reviews on Tripadvisor for the past 6 months just to reassure myself that we made the right decisions. Execellenace Playa Mujeres is a great choice but it was a bit too pricey for our guests. Hope to see more of you and your plans on BDW and this thread! Tova
  2. Hey Rebecca! I invite you to join me, Jenny and dozens of other brides in the May 2013 Brides Thread. It's been a great place for us to get together, exchange ideas, share the joy of reaching our milestones and watching our plans evolve. Welcome to BDW and Happy Planning! http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/79118/may-2013-brides
  3. Hmmm, I think my answer is till the same because I think the script in option 2 might help tie-in the script used for 'wedding edition' on the mad lib side. Otherwise I would say option 1.
  4. I like the first and second options best, but I would suggest increasing the font size for the headers in options 2.
  5. I assumed that we were included, but It does state 25 guests, and technically the bride and groom are not guests. Hmmm, good question.
  6. Congrats on a job well done, they look great. One Milestone down, and many more to go Blank Boarding Pass.ppt
  7. My advice is not to purchase a gown more than 2 sizes larger than your size, unless you have the opportunity to speak with an experienced seamstress regarding the required alterations specific to the dress of interest. In most cases it’s not an issue of whether or not it can be altered, but the cost associated with those changes because sometimes is become an entire restructuring of the dress and not a simple alteration. To address the second part of your question, most bridal boutiques do not carry petite sample sizes as they are less marketable. it’s more effective to use clips to size down a sample dress on a bride than to lose business because a bride can’t fit into a small sample and gauge how a dress/style will look on her. They will have samples in sizes 8, 10 or 12 and if it’s popular than maybe a plus size. Helpful tip all BDW brides looking for a great deal: try to peruse the pages of preownedweddingdresses.com it’s an online marketplace for new, used and sample bridal gowns and unfortunately there are quite a few brides who are selling their dress because their weddings have been called off. You might be able to find a new dress for 10-40% off; and used and sample dresses from 30-70%. There's also oncewed.com and recycledbride.com Good Luck!
  8. First dress is my preference, but I also encourage more shopping trips. The moment varies from bride to bride, but this should definitely be a purchase/experience that evokes emotion and should be based on more than just liking a dress. Best of luck on your dress search.
  9. And by the way, on simpleregistry.com, you can take a $100 item and break it into (4) individual gifts of $25, or (5) gifts of $20 etc. to make it econimical for your guests.
  10. New bedroom set and stainless steel grill (we'll need/want both by next year) and a green house since we're really into growing our own veggies/fruits/stater plants for our yard and garden. We considered listing one of our home remodling projects, we thought it was nice to list a few larger ticket items instead of one huge item.
  11. If you hover over the 'multi' reply button (next to the quote button) instruction will pop up.
  12. Congrats on your engagement and welcome to BDW and the May 2013 thread. Enjoy the process and happy planning!
  13. Just as I thought, and I think your right regarding Canada. Canadina flight availability seems to vary in comparison to the US. My guests are flying from PHL, BIL, PDX, SEA and BWI (predominantly east and west coast). Just wanted to make sure that I'm not missing anything,
  14. Thanks coco! I hope that all of my wedding details come together as perfectly for me as they did for you. Your wedding was beautiful.
  15. Hey Britney! As you know, we've been living together for 5 years and bought our home together 2 years ago, so conventional regiestries didn't really work for us. We actually signed up with simpleregistry.com, which is a cash registry but very tactful and enables you to list big ticket items and have people contribute in a way that's financially comfortable for them and at least they know they that they're helping you achieive a much larger goal/gift that better suits your needs than a set of towels. Check it out, I know you said you didn't want to ask for cash, but it's an option that may work for the two of you and other BDW brides who are reading this.
  16. Welcome to BDW and the May 2013 thread. You will quickly realize that May 18th is a popular wedding date and you're in good company being the 9th May 18th bride on BDW. You also share the date and resort with bride81. Regarding a welcome dinner, I would recommend coordinating this with your WC. Happy planning, and let us know if you have any other questions.
  17. Just curious as to how you have packaged rates including airfare if rates for airfare aren't even published yet?
  18. Oops sent that before I was done... Are you doing an engagement announcement?
  19. Are talking about save the dates? Announcements are a post wedding formality.
  20. You can definitely purchase a sample gown without there being a sample sale; there's nothing wrong with asking if you see something you love. Again, my sample was not part of a sale and I actually called around to get the best price on a sample. Just keep in mind the age of the style, dress condition, and your budget, as these will all be factors in whether or not they accept, counter or decline your offer.
  21. Thank you! Honestly, I'm just an anxious planner and my trend is to do everything earlier than the norm no matter how hard I resist. We decided that STDs weren't necessary and just an added cost since most of our guest have had our wedding date, or atleast month, committed to memory since February. So we're sending the invites out in mid July (10 months out) which is earlier than most, but it works for us. So what have you decided to do for your invites? Are you purchasing them or are you going to dabble a bit and see if you can come up with something great for a DIY? Quote: Originally Posted by FIFAbride I love them! You did a wonderful job. 22. Sample dress are the ones already in the store for brides to try on to get a sense of how the dress will look on your body. Most boutiques will only have one size of a specific gown and typically a size 8, 10, 12 (bridal sizes on average are 1 to 2 sizes smaller than street sizes) and sometimes larger sizes are available to accomodate full figured brides, but unfortuntaley plus size are a more limited inveontry. Samples are usually sold to make room for new styles and can be discounted anywhere from 20% to 70% dependent on the age of the gown, popularity (or lack there of) and condition (rips, tears, stains missing buttons, broken zipper etc.). Samples under 12-18 months old are typically not sold, since having them in the bridal boutique is the best form of marketing and generating salels, this is especailly true for poular gown. Unless you are specifially buying a sample, you will receive a new dress for your wedding day + the cost of alterations.
  23. It's so fun and sparkly, good luck, I hope you get the "it's the one" feeling, tears and all!
  24. Woohoo, Congrats! Glad I could help ease some of the reservations you may have had.
