  1. At least once a month he'll catch me off guard when it comes to a random wedding detail, I'm always amazed at the things he actually cares about and pays attention to. Anyway, thanks for the input ladies. I made an appt and I'm taking my dress on a field trip to try on veils.
  2. The topic came up casually this weekend and as it turns out, my Fi actually has an opinion about this and prefers that I wear a veil… who knew?!?!? I had no intention of wearing a veil, I never even tried one on with my dress, but if he wants to see his bride with a veil than that’ s what he’ll get (at least for the ceremony and pics). But now I have a lot of questions: Are there any rules/guideline when selecting a veil dependent on your dresses silhouette, your height or torso length? So I bought a sample, do I have to lug take my dress into a bridal store and try it on with veils in order to pick the best match? Or can I just pic one that I like online (huge online shopper). My logic is if I get a veil with a bit of embellishment around the perimeter edge than maybe it will be weighed down enough and won’t be obnoxious during the ceremony. But will this weigh it down too much for the whimsical windblown pics after? Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.
  3. I bought my dress close to 16 months in advance. I love my dress and haven't found another that comes close in comparison. No other dress before or after has captured my heart the same way, I feel like it was designed just for me. It came in under budget and I still wish it was cheaper. Ive been tempted to sell it and buy a cheaper dress, but I know I would regret it.
  4. Score on the pink staples and spanish book! But back to the subject at hand... I don't know what you should do. 3 of us have used that printer without any problems, but I understand why a "printing guru" would make you reluctant if she advises otherwise. But there are many of us who have printed our own DIY projects on specialty paper very successfully. Kinkos/Office Depot/ other Professional printing companies are not the only option. Maybe you can hold off for another 24 hours to see if anyone else will chime in and offer an alternate suggestion. And if you have a free maybe send a PM to Shay4966 and futuremrstgun to get there direct opinions if you dont get any other leads. they have also posted thread on their DIY project so you can see the quality. I have printed approx 40 sheets of bothe 65lb and 80lb and haven't encountered a jam or smears, but I also load 1 sheet at a time and set my printer options to accomodate the media and expected print quality.
  5. clarifications, photographers are not considered vendors so you only need to pay the $55 (maybe $60) day pass for them to be onsite.
  6. I asked the same questions a few months back and both Shay4966 and futuremrstgun (one of BDWs queens of DIY in my opinion) recommended the Canon Pixma MX882. I also purchased this printer and had no problems printing on my 80lb metalic cardstock.
  7. Welcome to BDW and the May 2013 thread... Happy planning!
  8. I don't think you ladies will have anything to worry about. I think these qualities will naturally exude on your wedding and will be captured effortlessly.
  9. Thanks Britney! Should I ever find myself searching for a new career path, I'll keep the invite business in mind. This project was definitely rewarding, and I had a lot of fun helping with your design too!
  10. I'm not a huge fan of Pnina Tornai, but this dress is definitely a winner and it looks fantastic on you. I'm glad you listened to your gut and went back to find this gem!
  11. Thanks for the compliment and good luck with your DIY invites, I'm sure they'll be fantastic! Make sure you share them when you're done, I'll keep an eye out.
  12. Welcome to BDW. This is the May 2013, so we won't be very helpful in proving any insight based on experience since none of us have gotten married yet. You may want to do a search for your specific resort to get the best feedback. Happy planning.
  13. Allie, you are a genius. I have raised this concern to my friends, family and even my Fi (who respond by saying "I thought you wanted your dress to cover your feet"...doesn't get it) and you're the first to suggest this. I didn't even consider this option and it's seemingly the easiest remedy and hopefully cost effective. My seamstress has quite the reputation so I feel confident that she should be able to pull this off. And I'll be able to wear fantastic shoes! FYI...Wearing 1" heels, the dress is 1/4" off the ground .

Both are very pretty...but I would go with the dress that I 'Love' Also, as for the shoes... its a destination wedding!! Wear flats! (Heels..sand.. don't mix!) True, but I'm not getting married in in the sand. But so far the consensus says that I should keep the one I love ad I think you ladies are right. Thanks.

I say, though both dresses are beautiful, if you don't LOVE your wedding dress, you don't love it. And I would be heartbroken to look at my pictures years after the fact, and think I should have worn something else. I say you still have plenty of time to get a wedding gown. Sell the one you bought that is shorter (and more uncomfortable than you wanted), and not buy your friend's. Maybe try to find something similar to the gown you love, but longer so you can wear the shoes you want? Just a thought. Good Luck!! Hey there, when you get a moment you should join me and other May 2013 brides: http://www.bestdestinationwedding.com/t/79118/may-2013-brides Thanks for you input. I do love the first one actually, but as the wedding progresses I just keep seeing $$$, so I saw a means to save and considered selling it for this reason. In my opinion there really isn't a dress like it, that's why I love it.

You dont want to have any regrets.. You said you didnt love the second one so i pick the first one! For shoes why dont you find a comfy low heel to wear and buy some sexy hot high heels to use just in pictures? Good Luck! Let us know what you decide! Thanks for your input. To justify switching dresses and in an attempt to save money, I keep trying to convince myself that you dont have to love your wedding. And shoes should be secondary. But maybe I will get a cute pair just for pics. Thanks, and I'll keep you posted with my final decision.
  17. JoeJoe - Most would advisde sending save the dates as soons as you have your date and venue determined. The more time you can give your guests to save and make the financial commitment, the better. Some of us have even sent formal invites already where others are sending them out around 6-8 months in advance. When you send out your invites try to keep in mind what your RSVP date will be and what is dependent on know who is coming (final purchases, misc coordination, decor).

  19. So I love my dress. I found it online, printed it out, and hunted it down to try it on. I fell in love instantly; it’s me in every way. The retail price of this dress was over my budget, but I scored and found a pristine sample that came in under budget. The only potential set back is that the dress is very form fitting and I don’t anticipate being very comfortable in it. Now I knew this all along but was willing to sacrifice comfort for a few hours (yes I love the dress that much). Secondly, I’m 5’10†and this dress only permits me to wear shoe that don’t exceed 1â€. I love heels and it’s been very difficult to find a shoe that I like adnwill work with this dress because of the heel restriction. In the interim, I have a friend who happened to buy one of my top 5 dresses. She ended up eloping in Vegas and no longer needs the dress. My curiosity got the best of me and I tried it on again, big mistake because now I’m thinking about buying it off of her and I will have two dresses. She got a killer deal on this dress as it was ordered by another bride who canceled her wedding and she only had to pay the 50% balance. And since we’re friends, she’ll give me a deal and reduce her asking price. Now if I switch dresses and sell my original (even if I lose a bit of $) I will still be well under my original budget. It’s actually possible that when it’s all said and done, I might only use a little over half of my original dress budget. And the comfort factor of this dress isn’t an issue. I don’t love this dress, but I really like it and I love that I will be saving a considerable amount of money. I will have to buy some sort of sash, and I can wear shoes up to 2-3/4†What to do???
